Do you feel like you could’ve repeated? The 2019 playoffs was a great experience for me and an unforgettable time with that team. That 2019 Connetquot team was a true family. Everyone on the team bought into the culture that was formed throughout the season. We put in work everyday from right when the 9th period bell rang to 7 o’clock at night when we ended practice. I absolutely feel like we could of repeated this in 2020. Unfortunately, we did lose big names like the Yalons, Joey Savino, and Josh McGee, but other teams also lost good players as well. We were already prepared with new players who were ready to go and fill the spots that were vacated by the seniors who left. How was your summer team’s performance? Who were some players that stood out? During the summer I played for Titans Quattrini, we were 29-1-1 with all our tournaments and league play combined. Some players that stood out on my team were Matt DeStefano from Clarke, Cole Maucere from West Babylon, and Ryan Ferremi from East Islip. The pitching staff was led by JT Raab from MacArthur and Tommy Ventimiglia from Longwood – who shutout opposing teams. Our team was just a great bunch of guys with a really good coaching staff that just clicked when we played together. Can you explain your experience with the college recruiting process and why you chose Adelphi? The recruiting process was difficult due to Covid, which completely took away our spring season and prevented colleges from coming out and seeing us play at that time. With everything getting delayed such as the college dead period to see players in person, creativity came into play with attending camps. I ended up taking a lot of video this summer and making a highlight reel and sending them off to college coaches. Adelphi acknowledged the video, and invited me to a camp so I could showcase myself to their coaches. After the camp was over, Coach Bill – who was already in contact with me – and Coach Scala reached out to offer me a chance to come to Adelphi. In my mind, Adelphi was always a top school for me because of all the great things I’ve heard from former players and players presently attending. Because of that it was easy for me to commit. How did you stay sharp during quarantine? When Covid first started no one really knew what to do at the time but as time went on my travel team was outside everyday getting live at bats, repping out and getting game ready. No one had a start date in mind, however, we went out everyday and played baseball anyway. Who are your favorite players in MLB and why? My favorite player right now has to be Mike Trout. He plays the game with an intensity that is unmatched on the field and he’s consistent year in and year out. Favorite meal? My favorite meal right now has to be a Chipotle Chicken burrito. Goals for 2021? My personal goal for 2021 is to get stronger and prepare myself for the collegiate level and do my best at Adelphi. My team goal as a Connetquot player is to take on the responsibility of being a leader. It’s my turn now to take younger players under my wing and show them the way we play Connetquot baseball.
{"Written by":"Vinny Messana","Est. reading time":"4 minutes
@context":"https://schema.org","@graph":[{"@type":"Article","@id":"https://www.axcessbaseball.com/2020/09/19/q-a-with-james-goff/#article
@id":"https://www.axcessbaseball.com/2020/09/19/q-a-with-james-goff/
Vinny Messana","@id":"https://www.axcessbaseball.com/#/schema/person/f547cb10f01b2dcfa9613585604f881f
Q &
