The Riverhead Tomcats<\/strong> came away with a win and a tie in Sunday\u2019s doubleheader against the Long Island Road Warriors<\/strong> in two seven inning games. With seven games remaining for both teams in the 2019 HCBL season, the Tomcats are 23-8-2 in first place, and the Road Warriors are 10-21-2 in seventh.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

GAME 1<\/b><\/p>\n
Riverhead defeated Long Island 7-6 in game one, on the road at Bellport High School.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n
Long Island\u2019s <\/span>Anthony Jacabacci<\/b> of the University of Bridgeport got the start on the mound and fired three innings, giving up five runs on three hits with four walks. <\/span>Jacabacci<\/b> gave up a leadoff single to UMass Lowell\u2019s <\/span>Rob Gallagher<\/b>, who then stole second. <\/span>Jacabacci<\/b> walked the next two batters and with the bases loaded and nobody out, Penn catcher <\/span>Andrew Hernandez<\/b> grounded into a 4-6-3 double play, scoring <\/span>Gallagher<\/b> for the first run of the game.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n
Connor Morrisroe<\/b> of Albany got the nod for Riverhead. He threw two and two thirds giving up three runs on five hits. He gave up a leadoff ground rule double to <\/span>Jake Guercio<\/b> (Fordham) but worked around it to keep Long Island off the board in the first. It wasn\u2019t until the bottom of the second that the Road Warriors would tie the game. Shortstop <\/span>David Soto<\/b> singled and stole second, then advanced on a <\/span>Jack Ryan<\/b> (Adelphi) single. Iona outfielder <\/span>Dan Palermo<\/b> grounded into a fielder\u2019s choice, scoring<\/span> Soto<\/b> tying the game at one after two innings.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Jacabacci <\/b>walked two Riverhead batters in the third before giving up a two out, two run single to <\/span>Andrew Hernandez<\/b> to give Riverhead a 3-1 lead. In the bottom of the third, Long Island answered back with two runs of their own. Queens College outfielder <\/span>Eric Roubal<\/b> walked, followed by Suffolk outfielder <\/span>Jake Ford\u2019s<\/b> single. <\/span>Roubal<\/b> and <\/span>Ford<\/b> swiped third and second respectively leading to Rutgers\u2019 <\/span>Miles Kelly\u2019s<\/b> sac fly, scoring <\/span>Roubal<\/b>. Later in the inning, <\/span>Palermo<\/b> singled in <\/span>Ford<\/b> with two outs to tie the game, ending <\/span>Morrisroe\u2019s <\/b>time on the mound. <\/span>Alex Doskoez<\/b> of NYIT came to the mound and was able to finish the inning with the game still tied at three.<\/span><\/p>\n
UC Santa Barbara\u2019s <\/span>Jarred Greene<\/b> was hit by a pitch to begin the fourth inning for Riverhead. He stole second, and then scored on <\/span>Bryce Wallace\u2019s<\/b> (Louisiana Tech) single. That ended the game for <\/span>Jacabacci<\/b>, and he was relieved by Cortland\u2019s <\/span>Mike Hennessy<\/b>. After striking out his first batter, Hennessy gave up a two run homer to left field to <\/span>Brian Morrell<\/b> of Notre Dame, pushing the Riverhead lead to 6-3 in the fourth. <\/span>Hennessy <\/b>settled down and retired two of the next three batters to get out of the inning.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Alex Doskoez<\/b> fared very well in the middle innings. He retired seven straight batters before the bottom of the sixth. He gave up two straight singles to Palermo and Daytona State\u2019s Chad Pike. <\/span>Doskoez<\/b> settled down and retired the next two batters before <\/span>Eric Roubal<\/b> took the HCBL home run lead to himself, with a three run blast, his sixth of the year, tying the game at six in the bottom of the sixth. NYIT\u2019s <\/span>Joseph Murphy<\/b> came on to relieve <\/span>Doskoez<\/b> and he struck out his first batter to end the sixth.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n
Jared Restmeyer<\/b> (St Rose) who had pitched a scoreless fifth and sixth for Long Island, came back on for the seventh inning. After recording the first out of the inning, he gave up a single to <\/span>Andrew Hernandez<\/b>, and a double <\/span>to Louis Antos<\/b> (Queens) before he was taken out. With one out, runners on second and third, Penn\u2019s <\/span>Drake Eggleston<\/b> came to the mound. The first batter he faced, <\/span>Jarred Greene<\/b>, flew out to deep right field, scoring <\/span>Hernandez<\/b> and giving Riverhead the 7-6 lead. <\/span>Eggleston<\/b> retired the next batter on a ground ball, ending the inning.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Joe Murphy<\/b> came back to the mound, up one run in the bottom of the seventh. He struck out his first batter, but walked <\/span>Soto<\/b> and <\/span>Jack Ryan<\/b> before he was taken out of the game. Umass Lowell\u2019s <\/span>Josh Becker<\/b> came to the mound looking for the two out save. With the tying run on second, and winning run on first and just one out, <\/span>Becker<\/b> recorded a strikeout and a groundball to first to pick up the save, with the 7-6 Riverhead victory. <\/span>Joe Murphy<\/b> got the win, and <\/span>Jared Restmeyer<\/b> received the loss in game one.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n
