A strong pitching performance combined with timely defensive plays helped push East Rockaway past Wheatley, 7-5. The bats were in full swing for the Rocks on Thursday afternoon, pounding out 10 hits and seven runs. In the first inning they started the game off with a walk, an infield single, a double steal and an RBI groundout to go up 1-0. They continued that momentum in the second, putting up three runs in the inning, two of them off the bat of Dylan Hensaw. Those runs helped extend the lead to 4-0. Wheatley starter Francis Cappi struggled to find the zone all day, giving up six runs, four walks and one balk in just 3.1 innings. The Wildcats battled back in the bottom of the third, plating two runs, one off the bat of Albany-commit Will Feil. Feil had a day at the plate, going 3-for-3 wi...
One of the top bats in the class of 2018 is now off the board with Will Feil (Wheatley 2018) committing to the University at Albany this evening. The third baseman with a sweet left-handed swing really rose his stock with a tremendous 2017 campaign in which he led Wheatley to the Class B Nassau County Championship over Oyster Bay. He went 3-for-3 in that game with three separate RBI hits. He also performed well this summer in the tournament and showcase circuit. Albany has shown an affinity towards Long Island players over the years with several of the top players choosing to attend there; notably Stephen Woods (Hills East ’13, San Francisco Giants draft pick). Feil will be with us in our inaugural Home Run Derby on September 9 at NYIT for Team Fontana.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=21tXRbacI4k It was a thrilling season on the diamond once again. Between high school and college, we covered 85 games not counting the seven game tournament in the Dominican Republic in February, which featured two teams of Long Island-based All-Stars playing at the beautiful minor league facilities of several Major League teams. You can read about that here. Here are a couple “best of” awards based only on the games that we covered. Final: Wheatley 8, Oyster Bay 5 WP: Stephen McCleary Will Feil: 3-for-4, 3 RBI pic.twitter.com/aW2J5hV5hP aXcess Baseball (@axcessbaseball) May 23, 2017 Wheatley put up four runs in the first inning, and that was just the beginning of a wild, offensive shootout against the same Oyster Bay team that was looking for revenge of last year’s Nassau County Class B championship. In the top of the fourth, third baseman Will Feil smoked a long RBI double to right center field to score Eric Beierlein to put Wheatley up 6-5. He scored when the ensuing batter, Mike Cunney, lined a single to center to make the score 7-5. After their starter, Stephen McCleary, allowed the first two runners to reach base via singles, left fielder James McPhillips came on to put out the fire and he did just t...
