Sixth-year head coach Asa Grunenwald believes the team’s biggest struggle was finding consistency on the mound. After seasons of development, Grunenwald is excited for the talent this year’s Westhampton Beach brings.  Grunenwald has a group of seniors that has been a part of the program for six years. Westhampton Beach Looks to Return to Playoffs Following 1-0 Heartbreaker

By Thomas Cregan Despite the loss of many key players from 2021 Westhampton Beach coach Asa Grunenwald is looking for another strong season out of his group in 2022. Westhampton posted a 9-9 regular season record in 2021 which propelled them to the playoffs.  They would lose to Hills West 1-0 which coach Grunenwald called a heartbreaking way to end the season.  However, he said that overall, it was a good year in which his team kept themselves in many close games and even their losses were close and always thrilling.  The 2021 team was driven both offensively and on the mound by seniors and this year coach Grunenwald is looking to his group to step up and fill in the production that was provided by those players that graduated. Grunenwald mentioned four major contributors from the previous...

Head Coach Asa Grunenwald, who took over the program in 2019, is looking forward to this season which kicks off in just over two weeks. They have the good fortune of having two dynamic bats in the middle of the orde...

Q & A With Jack Halloran

One of the more underrated players on Long Island is Westhampton Beach senior 3B Jack Halloran. The Emory-commit is coming off a stellar summer season in which he batted .554 with 12 HR and 46 RBI playing for the East End Aviators. Additionally PG Tournaments recently named him first-ream All-American for hitters. I had a chance to speak with him and here’s what he had to say… Who are some people that have had a possible impact on your career? I credit my family for instilling the fundamentals of authentic character from a young age, which I pride myself on as an athlete. Without a doubt, our assistant coach at Westhampton Beach, Dan Pulick, has had the largest impact on my playing career. These past few years, we have spent countless hours breaking down the game of baseball to...

On This Day in Axcess History: Miller Place Opens Up the Season With a 4-0 Victory Over Westhampton Beach

(Editor’s Note: This article was originally posted on March 27th, 2019.) Miller Place ended 2018 with a sour-taste in their mouth and have high hopes for this season. They opened up 2019 on a great note with a 4-0 shutout over Westhampton Beach. Gavin McAlonie fired four shutout innings for the win. “He can do it all,” said Head Coach Ricky Caputo. “He’s an outstanding pitcher as you saw today–At the plate, when he gets two strikes I almost feel like he’s getting better. He’s going to play third base, he’ll play a little short when Kevin Bowrosen gets on the mound. If it wasn’t for him and his talent and his versatility, we’d be a whole different ballclub,” he added. They got on the board in the third inning on an RBI ground out by McAlonie to score Jordan Syperski. They added two mo...
