They defeated Smithtown East on Sunday and Longwood on Monday to set up a rematch against the upstart Walt Whitman Wildcats, who are buoyed by their impressive young talent. Final: Longwood 5, Walt Whitman 0 WP: Dean Ennis (5.2 IP, 3 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 9 Ks) Urso: 2-R triple Moscatiello: solo HR pic.twitter.com/UZrts3GjF5 — Axcess Baseball LI (@axcessbaseball) March 27, 2024 With an established team like Longwood and an up-and-coming program like Walt Whitman, it promised to be a great League I series to kick off the 2024 season. With the exception of two innings, Walt Whitman has been up to the task, but they have came up short both games by the score of 1-0 and 5-0. Longwood’s pitching has proven to be just too tough and their ability to put together rallies has been the difference. Walt Whitman sent their sophomore stud, Jaden Grose to the mound against Longwood’s senior southpaw Dean Ennis. The game was scoreless through three innings, as both pitch...

The first run came in on an RBI single which was followed by a ball hit deep to left by sophomore Tyler Mezadurian that hit off of the left fielder’s glove, allowing the second run, and ultimately the deciding run, to cross the plate...
It was certainly a wild season in 2019 for Whitman. After beginning the season 0-4, they quickly completely turned the tables and won 10 of 11 qualifying for a postseason berth in the loaded League II. What turned it around? “We were up 3-1 against Sachem North in the last inning and gave it up to go to 0-4,” said Coach Keith Barrett. “After that, we went on a run. We won a couple one-run games and then the winning was contagious. We expected to win after a while. Also, we made some changes in the lineup and really took off,” he added. After their incredible streak, they had the misfortune of drawing a bracket with Longwood and Smithtown East. They drew Adelphi-commit Steven Murphy (Longwood) and SUNY Oswego-commit Jai Sharma (Smithtown East) and lost both games fac...
