It is their first title since 2000 pic.twitter.com/uW9Vmfbksp — Axcess Baseball LI (@axcessbaseball) May 27, 2024 When Paul Parsolano took over as head coach at St. Anthony’s, they were in the midst of a championship drought that dated back to 2000. After a few years of knocking on the door, including an appearance in the finals in 2019 against Chaminade, they were finally able to take that next step and break through in 2024. They did so in dramatic fashion, winning a thrilling, 4-3, in 9 innings against Holy Trinity – who were the reigning NYS Catholic League Champs. Special thanks to Metamorphosis Landscape Design for sponsoring this year’s series by Vin Messana March 12, 2020 was five years ago today. It was the day most people remember when looking back on the craziness of the pandemic – citing things like the NCAA cancelling the men’s basketball tournament and professional sports being halted. There was no high school baseball season that year, but the Town of Brookhaven did host a Wood Bat tournament which featured almost all of the schools in the county. The winner of that was Commack, led by the late Bryan Bonin. But for Head Coach, Tom Tuttle, the losses in the Long Island Championships sting. “There’s no question it stings,” said Tuttle, who has been at the helm since 2007. “In both Long Island Championships, we lost in the last inning. Out of 14 innings, we had two bad innings. Twice we didn’t make a defensive play. The unfortunate thing is, we are built to win a two of three. The...
Special thanks to Metamorphosis Landscape Design for sponsoring this year’s series by Vin Messana Babylon has quickly become one of the better small schools on Long Island. They made a run at perfect season in 2023 – right up until Game 2 of the Suffolk County Finals. They ultimately finished as the Class B Long Island Champs with a thrilling win over Seaford at St. Joseph’s University. They followed that up with another Suffolk County Championship last year – although they did lose to Wheatley, 3-1, in the Long Island Championship at Farmingdale State College. Unfortunately for Babylon, in addition to losing the game, Coach Michael Birnbaum noted that their ace starting pitcher, Aidan Kistner, suffered an injury to his UCL that day and he will not be pitching in 20...

In a season of incredible accomplishments, Kings Park head coach Andrew Abreu cited one moment that stands out and that was the team’s celebration after defeating Bayport-Blue Point in the Class A Suffolk County Championship. “It was just raw emotion,” said Abreu who took over prior to the 2020 year. “The first time we got to see them dog pile, that is something I’ll never forget.&#...

In 2024, through a combination of outstanding clutch performances from their upperclassmen, some timely contributions from the depth of the roster, great coaching decisions and good fortunes, they were able to defeat Port Washington in the Nassau County Class AAA County Finals to be crowned champs for first time in 34 years. “It comes down to the group of guys we had,” said longtime head coach ...

In the bottom of the 9th, Clarke’s pitcher, Jaret Sarrantonio, was called for a balk which allowed Kings Park to score the winning run and send their fans into a state of euphoria. On the other side of that was Clarke, one of the best programs on Long Island, having one of their best seasons in their history. They battled Hunter Colagrande, the eventu...
