(Editor’s Note: This is the sixth installment of the Up Next Series Powered by State Farm Ken Kortright Agency in which we highlight the top underclassmen on Long Island. Previously, we featured Everett Zarzicki, Brian Brower, Stellan Zangari, Ryan Bush and Bryce Cutrone. Special thanks to State Farm Ken Kortright Agency for sponsoring this year’s series.) When you look at many of the top players across high school, college or professional baseball, they are often the most athletically gifted and physically imposing as well. The beauty about the game of baseball, though, is that there are no size requirements and occasionally there are outliers that breakthrough and provide hope for other undersized athletes out there. Currently in Major League Baseball, that player would be Jo...

by Chris Donnelly FINAL: Long Island Crew 4, Tri State Arsenal NY National 0 pic.twitter.com/uT75bYoWAq — Axcess Baseball LI (@axcessbaseball) August 17, 2023 In a 16u Boys of Summer National semifinals matchup between Long Island Crew and Tri State Arsenal NY to decide who advances to the finals, the Crew got ahead early and never looked back. It was a pitchers’ duel between the two teams as there were only four runs scored between both teams. Arsenal sent Tyler Pilatski to the mound, and he got into some trouble early. Starting the game off with a hit by pitch and a walk gave the Crew an early chance to push runs across. Pilatski came back to get a popout and strikeout almost getting out of the jam. Another hit by pitch loaded the bases with 2 outs for Brady Leichtman and he lined a sing...

The second inning was not as easy for Rivera though, as he ran into a bases loaded one out situation after giving up a single to Mike Fosorile and walking two batters. But, the bases being loaded didn’t seem to affect Rivera becaus...

One of the main reasons for their success was great starting pitching and junior RHP Tommy Ruehle was a big part of that. He compiled a record of 6-3 with a 3.13 ERA. They will be counting on him once against This past week he announced his commitment to Southern Arkansas. I had a chance to speak with him and here’s what he had to say…   Can you explain your experience with the college recruiting process and why you chose Southern Arkansas? These past couple months have been ups-and-downs with colleges and whether or not the school was the right fit for me personally. When SAU was brought in as an option, I felt that I couldn’t let this o...
