Maritime Mauls St. Joseph’s 21-8, Advances to Skyline Conference Championship
SUNY Maritime wasted no time in their Skyline Conference Tournament match up against St. Joseph’s this morning. The Privateers jumped on St. Joe’s pitching from the start and never relinquished the lead. The first run of the game came across on a double down the left field line by Steve Semler, who won yesterday’s fifteen inning marathon with a walk-off sacrifice fly. Thirteen Maritime batters came to the plate in the first, and besides Semler runs were driven in by Brian McLaughlin, Phill Russo, Connor Alwan, Aaron Schiavoni, Antonio Diaz and Matt Costleigh. Travis Bruinsma Fires Gem to Salvage Split Against Staten Island
SUNY Maritime Privateers faced off against the College of Staten Island Dolphins in a nautically-themed doubleheader today. Maritime lost game one after an incredible comeback by Staten Island, but rallied to win the second game behind the masterful pitching of Travis Bruinsma. Maritime wasted no time in game one scoring three runs in the first. Shortstop Matt Costleigh smacked a leadoff home run. Costleigh’s shot to right center got the Privateers started, and they added on runs with an RBI ground out and an RBI single by Aaron Schiavoni and Phil Russo, respectively. They added another run in the second on a sacrifice fly from Costleigh, then another in the fourth on a single up the middle by Chris Deddo. Maritime Loaded With Arms, Ready to Shock the Skyline Conference
After watching their practice tonight, it was stunning how far along the Maritime program has come. Coach Charlie Barbieri has a team ready to compete for a championship this season. “In terms of pitching this is the best group we have ever had,” said the third-year Head Coach. “And it’s not even close,” he added. Having graduated only one player from last year’s team that compiled an 11-5 Skyline Conference record, the Privateers would’ve been in good shape regardless of how strong their incoming class of freshmen and transfers. Nassau Defeats Suffolk 3-1 in Grand Slam Challenge

The pitchers brought their ‘A’ game but it was Nassau who prevailed with a 3-1 win. The big blow came on a two-run single in the bottom of the 6th off the bat of Billy Bianco of North Shore–who was named the game’s Most Valuable Player.
