by Nick Cipolla Postgame interview with Nick Laskowski after he pitched 4.2 innings of no hit ball for the Tri Hamlet Colonials pic.twitter.com/C27GqND6NJ — Axcess Baseball LI (@axcessbaseball) September 11, 2022 Nick Laskowski was on his A game last night from the first pitch he threw until the last one he was allowed to throw. Laskowski was dominant to say the least and was only pulled because of a pitch limit that he hit with two outs in the fifth, not allowing him to finish the game which ended in the same inning due to the two hour time limit in Town of Brookhaven. This performance kept his team in a close game against NexGen Storm that looked like it would be a pitcher’s duel until the Colonials offense came through in the third inning. The Colonials had a big four run third inning t...

The score is 13-1 A’s in the top of the 4th pic.twitter.com/fidqZnGwtC — Axcess Baseball LI (@axcessbaseball) September 10, 2022 The Eastern A’s made a statement to the rest of the JV Division in the Town of Brookhaven September Showdown last night in a 13-1 beatdown of the Tri-Hamlet Colonials. The A’s attacked early and often, scoring runs at will and putting this game out of reach early. The scoring started in the bottom of the first, after both leadoff runners reached, the A’s executed a double steal of second and home to make it 1-0 A’s. Christian Cox made it 2-0 A’s on a sac fly to center. The A’s broke this one open with a big 7 run second inning. Matthew Diowitz got the party started with an RB...
by Nick Cipolla Justin Wood ties the game at 5 with an RBI single to center pic.twitter.com/e3FGpQ7SVh — Axcess Baseball LI (@axcessbaseball) September 10, 2022 The LI Sharks found themselves trailing early in this one, however they wouldn’t go away easily as they rallied in the late innings to steal a game from East Hampton. The East Hampton Bonacs jumped out to an early 3-0 lead in the top of the first, 2 bases loaded walks and an RBI single by Miles Eckardt was how the runs scored. In the bottom half of the 1st inning, Aiden Garcia knocked in a run for the Sharks on an RBI Groundout to first. Richard Roberts hit a double to deep left, stole third, and later scored on a passed ball to make it a 3-2 game. In the top of the third, East Hampton loaded the bases again. This time, Thomas Perr...
by Nick Cipolla Final. LI Hurricanes: 1 Moriches Bay Red Devils: 0 Chris Votruba was lights out on the mound. Pitching 5 shutout innings with 8 strikeouts pic.twitter.com/PMKRv2tIop — Axcess Baseball LI (@axcessbaseball) September 9, 2022 Sometimes, all it takes is one run to decide a ballgame. That statement proved to be true in the LI Hurricanes win over the Red Devils on Friday Night. Chris Votruba was a man on a mission and it seemed like no one would hit him all night. Votruba shut down Moriches Bay for 5 innings, allowing only 5 batters to reach base (4 walks, 1 hit), and striking out 8 en route to a 1-0 victory. The performance by Votruba was very impressive for someone his age. His first six outs recorded were all strikeouts as the Red Devils couldn’t keep up with his fastball al...
by James Ryder Sachem East goes down swinging on back to back strikeouts for outs 2 and 3. We’re approaching the bottom of the 2nd, where the Wildcats will look to expand their lead: pic.twitter.com/HXs1ZARLR1 — Axcess Baseball LI (@axcessbaseball) April 17, 2021 The Wildcats competed against the Arrows Saturday night for the first 2021 Town of Brookhaven Special Event title. In what wound up being a pitching and offensive clinic, the Wildcats tore through the Seminoles on their way to a 9-1 victory. Grodski was the Wildcats starting pitcher. He started and went 3.2 innings, and was dominant. He struck out four batters in his time on the mound. His second and third Ks came back-to-back to end the top of the second inning. Joe Dwyer replaced Grodski in the fourth inning with the bases loade...
Going into the season, Commack knew they were capable of winning a championship. Although it was only a six-game sample size, they proved that during the Town of Brookhaven Varsity Wood Bat Tournament. The Cougars went 6-0 – including a 2-0 victory in the championship against Lindenhurst. Oneonta-commit Drew Vincent was outstanding. The senior fired a complete game shutout with 10 strikeouts, allowing just two singles in a masterpiece of an outing. It was his second win of the tournament, he also won on Wednesday night. Although he was throwing goose eggs inning-after-inning, his counterpart Brandon Arcone of Lindenhurst was equally masterful for much of the game. Commack was scoreless entering the bottom of the fifth inning but Vinny Pagano led off with a walk. Jack Cascone followed...
Kelly goes the distance as Hauppauge gets the win over SWR 8-0 here at the Moriches Complex pic.twitter.com/x7DJHMXJcV — Axcess Baseball LI (@axcessbaseball) July 12, 2020 Heading into their final game before the playoffs, the Hauppauge Eagles needed a big outing from their starter, Patrick Kelly, if they had any aspirations of continuing their run at a championship. Facing possible elimination, Kelly shined for his team as they captured the victory 8-0 over Shoreham-Wading River. Throwing a complete game 7 inning shutout, Kelly willed his team to a win while only allowing 4 hits and striking out 2. His performance kept the pressure off the Eagles bats who also came up big. Working seamlessly throughout the course of the game, Kelly showed poise in difficult situations while also maintaini...
It was another entertaining day of baseball at Moriches Complex in day 3 of the Town of Brookhaven tournament. As I suspected, this quickly went from a recreational summer tournament to an intense revisiting of deeply rooted rivalries and I love it. The passion that was on display yesterday is not typical for a tournament in July that includes several players that have already graduated. So much so, in fact, that Friday’s rainouts initially meant no playoffs for the tournament but enough coaches voted for it so Monday will now feature semifinals and finals. At 3pm, I covered Babylon and Center Moriches. This is a rivalry matchup that has been completely one-sided in recent years due to the unprecedented success of Center Moriches. Babylon has always been a quality team, but last year...
Sayville made a habit out of performing their best with their backs against the wall in 2019 and rode a hot streak all the way to winning their first Class A Long Island Championship in school history. Although this was a far cry from the intensity in that victory against Clarke, they displayed their resiliency under coach Joe Esposito. With the score tied 2-2 entering extra innings in the Town of Brookhaven Varsity Wood Bat tournament, Pat Delaney drove in Nick Buffardi with an RBI double to give the Golden Flashes a 3-2 lead. They padded their lead with two insurance runs on RBI singles by Jack Leniec and C.J. Messina to make it 5-2, which was the final against Half Hollow Hills West. Kevin Gross closed the deal, he recorded the victory after coming on in relief in the fifth inning. The ...
If you missed baseball and live on Long Island, yesterday was highly-anticipated and much needed. After the cancellation of the 2020 high school spring season, fans and players were yearning to get back onto the field. Monday was the official first day back, but Wednesday had a different feel. Town of Brookhaven did some heavy lifting, getting together 36 Suffolk County high school teams for a 5-day long tournament that had all the excitement and talent of a regular season. First up, we covered Sachem East vs Newfield. Let me be clear – if this was a playoff game leading up to the draft, there would’ve been 30 scouts and over 1,000 fans. Not often do you see two highly-regarded arms like Rafe Schlesinger and Dylan Johnson face off against each other. It was the perfect way to k...
Sal Mignano knows a thing or two about competitive baseball. He is the father of Shoreham-Wading River baseball, winning 583 games over 38 seasons, capturing 12 league and 7 county championships. After the cancellation of the 2020 high school season following the coronavirus pandemic, he wanted to do something to help out. Problem is, he was stuck in San Diego since the end of February once the thick of the pandemic hit NYC. The idea was simple – put together a tournament of Suffolk County teams using Town of Brookhaven’s state-of-the-art fields. He ran the idea past Eddie Morris, commissioner of Parks and Recreation for the Town and he was onboard. All it took was three or four conference calls and the foundation was set. The two biggest obstacles was that baseball had not yet...
After months of bad news followed by more bad news, we finally have something to be excited about. The Town of Brookhaven will be hosting the 2020 Varsity Wood Bat Tournament from July 8-12 at Moriches Complex. It will provide a positive baseball experience for those that had their seasons cancelled before it even started. The teams will be consisted of the varsity baseball rosters, as opposed to typical tournaments which feature travel organization. What makes this event even better, is that many of the top programs in Suffolk County have already registered. Try this one on: Connetquot (Reigning Class AA Champs) Sayville (Reigning Class A Champs) Ward Melville (Class AA runner-uo) Longwood (semifinalists) Commack Pat-Med Sachem East Sachem North Hills East Newfield North Babylon Centereac...
