Stony Brook remained hot keeping their five-game winning streak alive with big regards to senior second baseman Rob Chavarria who came through clutch with walk-off single to left field to defeat UMBC 6-5. After suffering a tough loss in game 1 (8-0), UMBC relied on their junior right handed pitcher Conrad Wozniak who flat out dominated the Seawolves. Jeremy Giles started it off with a single and Andruw Gazzolla was hit by a pitch to advance him to second. Tyler Honahan started, but was not his dominant self. He allowed three runs on five innings, allowing eight hits and two walks. The bullpen did a tremendous job to hold the fort–with Teddy Rotliff throwing five shutout innings to record his first win of the season.The Sea Wolves fell behind early and trailed 3-0 in the top of the fifth but chipped away on an RBI ground out by Bobby Honeyman. They scored two in the seventh on an error and RBI single by Jeremy Giles to make the 4-3. However, the Sacred Heart Pioneers have an abundance of work to do as they sit at the bottom of the standings at 1-14. Stony Brook and the cold rain were not doing the Pioneers any favors as Stony Brook took down Sacred Heart 8-4 in 6 ½ innings. The game was shortened due to inclement weather. Stony Brook’s junior right-handed pitcher Tim Knesik made his fifth start on the mound today. He struggled through 1.1 innings and was relieved by Nick DiEva, who received the win with 2.2 shutout innings of relief.
