Entering his 28th season at the helm, the Sea Wolves’ skipper’s attention to detail is pretty remarkable. While I observed their practice today, they spent roughly 30-35 minutes practicing every type of bunt scenario. No detail was too small to be accounted for. They crushed No. 4 Sacred Heart 11-6, with the team compiling 17 hits–at least one by each starter.The Sea Wolves jumped all over Sacred Heart in the first inning with a five spot, then added two in the second and third innings. Casey Baker had two hits and drove in four runs. Toby Handley and Jack Parenty both compiled three hits while scoring twice. Cooper For the first time since the magical run of 2012, the Stony Brook Sea Wolves have won the America East title.It took an amazing comeback on Saturday, too as they defeated UMBC 16-11. They trailed 7-0 in the first inning after the bats of UMBC roughed up Ryley MacEachern.In the ensuing inning they scored a tournament record 11 runs thanks to RBI hits by Malcolm Nachmanoff and Toby Handley and a slew of walks and errors.The scoring wasn’t done after that. UMBC answered with two in the bottom of the second and that’s when Tim Knesnik came in to put out the fire. Ryley MacEachern threw seven shutout innings, allowing just one hit and one walk while striking out five. Nicholas DiEva closed the door with two shutout innings of relief. They wasted no time taking a 3-0 lead in the first inning. Toby Handley hit an RBI triple to score Cole Peragine. David Groeneveld Voted April’s MVP
Photo Credit: LIU Post Athletics The people have spoken! After a whopping 2.548 votes, LIU‘s first baseman David Groeneveld has been voted MVP of April. Last month, Dan Parisi of Dowling had the award bestowed upon him after receiving a majority of the 748 votes. This season, Groeneveld is batting .305 with a .407 OBP and .421 SLG percentage. He has nine extra-base hits. In April, however, he has taken his game to another level. He entered the month with a .219 average after their March 30 game against St. Thomas Aquinas. Since then, he has amassed 22 hits in 17 games and scored seven runs to become one of the most consistent forces in the Pioneers’ lineup. “I thought it was really good,” he said in regards to his April performance. “I made a few adjustments t...

They cruised past Fairfield 15-3 today to improve to 24-12. They’ve now won 14 of their past 15 games. They scored in the first seven innings of the game and starter Tim Knesnik was dominant–allowing only one hit over five shutout innings, while striking out six. Bobby Honeyman Collects Five Hits, Stony Brook Sweeps Albany

The Sea Wolves scored three in the first, three again in the third and two in the eighth and compiled 18 hits as a team. Honeyman scored three runs to go along with his five hits. Toby Handley also had four hits, drove in two and scored twice. Robert Chavarria, Casey Baker and Andruw Gazzolla each had two hits. Baker drove in three, Gazzolla brought in a pair. By winning the first two games of the series they had extended their winning streak to nine-straight games but it was thwarted on Sunday with a loss.In Game One, Tyler Honahan continued his strong season by pitching six innings, allowing one ER, allowing four hits, two walks while striking out five. Written by Jim Ferchland A remarkable milestone was reached on Wednesday as Stony Brook Head Coach Matt Senk earned his 700thcareer win against a hungry LIU-Brooklyn team by the score of 6-4. This is Senk’s 25thseason as head coach of the Stony Brook Seawolves. The 6-4 victory also extended the Seawolves winning streak to seven and improve their overall record (17-11). Their last loss took place in the second game of a double-header at home to UMass Lowell on March 30. The LIU-Brooklyn Blackbirds extended their losing streak to three. Within those three defeats, they have let up 20 runs and have only scored seven. On road games, they are 6-13. Their overall record now stands at 11-20 under new head coach Alex Trezza.
