Respect. Integrity. Commitment. Those are the core values of Team Steel. A common theme within the 2022 class are those values are instilled within the players. Last night, the program recognized the 40 players in the 2022 class that will be playing in college. Cam Sorgie, Director of teams, had this to say regarding the class: “The 2022 class is made up of incredible players who have showed their commitment both on and off the field. by Gabe Zoda After the game we caught up with WP James Haupt to talk about today’s DH and his CG on the mound. pic.twitter.com/vIFiVePEDz — Axcess Baseball LI (@axcessbaseball) July 22, 2021 Whenever you have two good teams going up against each other, you know it’s going to be a good game. But when you get a DH between two good teams you get to watch 2 great games. That’s exactly what was seen at Newfield HS when Team Steel Molinaro played against Phenom Baseball. Both teams would take one game of the DH and both of the games would only be decided by one run. The first game would go in favor of Team Steel. They would take it by a score of 3-2 but the scoring wouldn’t start until the top of the 3rd. This run would be scored by Ryan Suppa, who pinch ran for Ryan Yerkes. He started ...
Some familiar names were on display in today’s Boys of Summer-Perfect Game Collegiate League double header at Brentwood State Park between the Steel Collegiates and LI Strong. Despite fielding a team of primarily 2021 graduates, Steel looked like a team mature beyond their years and executed well in all aspects of the game. It starts with pitching and they performed in spaces. Here’s how it went down: Game 1 Tyler O’Neill took the mound for the Steel Collegiates. He is fresh off winning Nassau Conference II Pitcher of the Year for Mepham. He picked up right where he left off, but before he took the mound he was staked to a 1-0 lead. Joe Sanguedolce (St. Joseph’s) led off with a single to right and scored on Billy Kender’s RBI double. It was a huge day for Kend...
Uncommitted 2022 Jason Ambos pic.twitter.com/yYLHaxBE6V — Axcess Baseball LI (@axcessbaseball) November 29, 2020 It’s not often that a Long Island-born position player is able to play at a powerhouse Division-I program in the south. It’s even more rare to do thrive once you get there. It’s such a competitive atmosphere and the players from the south are simply at an advantage when it comes to hitting the high-end pitchers. Jason Ambos, a Bay Shore-native, but now at Elev8 Academy in Delray Beach, FL., recently announced his commitment to play at University of Central Florida in the AAC Conference. Ambos is a left-handed hitting outfielder with lightning in his bat and great speed. He plays summer ball for Team Steel. UCF was off to a 15-3 start in the 2020 season and well...
by Ethan Berch Axcess Reporter Ethan Berch (@eberch5) speaks with Joe Marino and Vinny Napolitano following Team Steels Boys of Summer League championship win! pic.twitter.com/Q9sInyiFnP — Axcess Baseball LI (@axcessbaseball) November 7, 2020 They do say that November baseball never fails to excite. The Boys of Summer College Championship may have agreed with that statement! The East End Aviators, representing majority of Suffolk Community College baseball players and Team Steel representing majority Farmingdale State College players went head-to-head at Brentwood State park. Coming off a dramatic win just minutes before, the Aviators came in with serious momentum after clobbering a walk-off homerun. They threw Ray Hoffman to start this game. Ray was solid in the first inning, finishing wi...
B1000 Seminoles outlasted Team Steel in both games of Thursday’s double header in the Boys of Summer/Perfect Game Collegiate League. Each game went six innings due to the time limit, but they both featured compelling action. Here’s how it went down: Game 1: Team Steel jumped out to an early 2-0 lead in the bottom of the first off Matt Levine. Jake Woods got things going with a single to right field and a stolen base to get himself into scoring position. After two strikeouts, Matt Schmidt reached on a dropped fly ball by the left fielder to score Woods and get on the board. After a walk and a balk put two more runners in scoring position, Nick Doczy reached on an error by the second baseman to allow the second run of the inning to score. Levine settle down and induced an inning ...
