He is one of the five best baseball players ever to come out of Long Island, as he had a remarkable career at LSU and went on to play a decade in the big leagues. Since then, he has been the head coach at Farmingdale State College for close to 20 years where he has won 8 Skyline Conference Championships. Additionally, he has been around the travel league circuit for many years and coaches Team Steel. All of that is to say that his evaluations are typically extremely accurate so it opened my eyes when he had the following to say about Connetquot SS Jagger Adamo, a 10th grader. Our next two selections for Pathway Prospect Games in San Diego are, 2025 3B/C Gage Haws from Gametime Baseball in Idaho and 2026 SS/2B Jagger Adamo from Team Steel National in New York. #pathwayprospects #SanDiego pic.twitter.com/dhqXQdiBEZ — Pathway Baseball (@PathwayBB) November 28, 2023 “I’m going into my 19th year in travel baseball,” said Osik. “He could be the best shortstop the island has seen. He can run, hit and throw. Everything he hit last year was a double! Off the field, his makeup is amazing. He’s a tireless worker, working on his strength and speed throughout the offseason.” This summer he batted .342 with a .471 OBP and 1.023 OPS while playing an outstanding defensive SS. Eleven of his 27 hits went for extra bases, and he also drew more walks (14) than strikeouts (13). I had a chance to speak with him and here’s what he had to say… Who are some people who have had a positive influence on your career? My coaches; most recently Keith Osik, my parents and my older brother. Was baseball always your No. 1 sport? Baseball has always been my number one sport and I don’t play anything else. Do you take private lessons from anyone? I take private strength and agility lessons at Infiniti Sports Performance and I hit with Justin Gerardo at GRITNJ. Any family members play college ball? My brother, Trevor, is currently playing baseball at Wilmington University in Delaware. What has been your best experience on a baseball field? My best experience on a baseball field is hitting a walkout for my team to send us to the championship game. Favorite players in Major League Baseball? Mike Trout, Aaron Judge, Trea Turner and Corey Seager. Favorite app on your phone? Instagram Favorite TV Show? Breaking Bad Favorite musical artist? Drake Favorite restaurant on Long Island? Frank’s Steak House Favorite vacation spot? Florida Dream Car? Last night, the program recognized the 40 players in the 2022 class that will be playing in college. Cam Sorgie, Director of teams, had this to say regarding the class: “The 2022 class is made up of incredible players who have showed their commitment both on and off the field. These players have traveled the country and competed at the highest level while maintaining high marks in the classroom all while battling the adversity brought on by covid. Watching these guys train is a dream for any coaching – they show up determined, ready to challenge themselves and show resilience and grit at every turn. I am beyond confident these players have the talent and potential to excel on their new ball fields. This was a special group we are very proud to have as part of the Steel family and help usher into their next chapters.” In addition to the group recognition, some individual awards were handed out: Southern New Hampshire-commit Steven Kienzle (Sachem North 2021, Elev8 Academy) pic.twitter.com/1g0imifTvF — Axcess Baseball LI (@axcessbaseball) December 31, 2021 Team Steel Offensive Players of the Year: Frankie Noto (Westhampton Beach) and Tyer Hodella (Miller Place) Team Steel Pitcher of the Year: Aidan Colagrande (Kings Park) Team Steel Defensive Player of the Year: Albert Ramos (St. Dominic) Team Steel Core Values MVP: Brady Steinert (Chaminade) and Giovanni Cassino (Miller Place) Team Steel Academic Excellence: Brady Steinert (Chaminade) Team Steel Heart and Hustle: Dominick Persichilli (Centereach)

The post Recap of Team Steel College Signing Day appeared first on Axcess Baseball.

St. Thomas Aquinas-commit Dom Persichilli (Centereach 2022) and Fairfield-commit Aidan Colagrande (Kings Park 2022) talk about their experience playing with Team Steel pic.twitter.com/nQoCBQR2dh

— Axcess Baseball LI (@axcessbaseball) December 31, 2021

Teamwork. Miller Place was the favorite to capture the Suffolk Class A Championship in 2019 as they entered the playoffs as the No. 1 overall seed. They were not able to finish the job, as Sayville wound up getting hot and riding that streak to their first LIC in program history. The core of that Miller Place graduated in 2019, they had 18 seniors. Last year’s team had only five which means they are returning the bulk of their team. One of those players was freshman SS Alex Strickland. Despite playing against players three years older, he compiled a healthy OBP of .414 OBP with eight stolen bases. They will be hoping that he can duplicate that production atop the lineup or even take a step forward. There’s also a chance he can contribute on the mound. PG has his velocity at 87, which should play well at this level. I had a chance to speak with him and here’s what he had to say.. Who are your favorite players in Major League Baseball and why? My favorite players in Major League Baseball are Javier Baez and Jacob deGrom because they are some of the top players at their position and I like the way they play the game. Who are some people who have had positive influences on your playing career? My father – basically he has been since I started playing and pushes me hard to succeed. Coach Sorgie is another person who has had a big time impact on me. He has been helping me out with the college recruiting process. How have you been enjoying your time with Team Steel? Who are some top performers on your team? I am definitely enjoying my time with Team Steel so far. Some of our key contributors were Mikey Monaco who is one of our better hitters and Hunter Colagrande who is the top pitcher. Do you take any private lessons? I take hitting lessons with Pat Lennon at Pro Game Athletics. What are your goals for the off-season? I would like to add some weight, try to get a 6.8-6.9 60-ayrd dash and add a few MPH to my fastball. What is your best memory on a baseball field? My best memory was when I hit a three-run walk-off HR to advance into the semifinals at Diamond Nation. What is your dream college to attend? I have not decided what my dream college is yet. What is your favorite pregame meal? My favorite pregame meal is a bacon cheeseburger. What is your favorite app on your phone? My favorite app to use is Snapchat. Where is your favorite place to get a slice of pizza? Amici Express is my favorite place to get pizza and I like to go there after all my games. Dream car? My dream car is the 2021 Corvette. Please consider signing up for our monthly membership to ensure you don’t miss any content!

The post Up Next Powered by The Yard Sports: Alex Strickland appeared first on Axcess Baseball.

This is the fifth installment of the popular series “Up Next” Powered by the Yard Sports Academy in which we highlight the top underclassmen on Long Island. But when you get a DH between two good teams you get to watch 2 great games. That’s exactly what was seen at Newfield HS when Team Steel Molinaro played against Phenom Baseball. Both teams would take one game of the DH and both of the games would only be decided by one run. The first game would go in favor of Team Steel. They would take it by a score of 3-2 but the scoring wouldn’t start until the top of the 3rd. This run would be scored by Ryan Suppa, who pinch ran for Ryan Yerkes. He started the inning by reaching base with an E-3. The next batter, Joseph Eger , would then move him over to third after a 2B. Connor Buonconsiglio would walk after making it a bases loaded situation with no outs. Then next two batters would strikeout making it a 2 out situation and just before getting out of a jam, Tyler Young gets HBP which allows Ryan Suppa to score. Team Steel would continue to score runs in the top of the 4th. In this inning they would score 2 more to increase their lead to 3-0. Connor Riegal would start off the action for Steel with a one out single, The bases would quickly get loaded as Zachary Skupp and Ryan Suppa were both hit by pitches. The first run of the inning would be driven in by Connor Buonconsiglio who singled to the left side. The next run would score in the next AB. In this AB, Ryan Suppa would get a good read on a breaking ball in the dirt that would kick away from the catcher, he used that to come in and score the second run of the inning for Team Steel giving them 3-0 advantage. Team Phenom were held scoreless until the bottom of the 6th (which was the last inning due to time restraints). A massive part of this was due to the SP for Team Steel. He ended the game with the win after throwing 5 innings, Striking out 9 players (including a stretch of 6 in a row) and walking 3 batters. In the bottom of the 6th though, Team Steel would go to the Bullpen to try and get the close but Phenom Baseball weren’t going to go into game 2 after getting shutout in the 1st game. This Inning would start with a walk to Leadoff batter Michael Arbuiso. This was then followed up by a single from Cole Conte to put runners on first and second. The first run came in after a monster 2B off the bat of Michael Charello that almost scored Conte from first but was held up at third after a good throw in from the outfielder. Phenom Baseball would then deploy a small-ball strategy and had Anthony Baggetta lay down a sacrifice bunt to bring in the second run. Unfortunately for Phenom Baseball, they couldn’t make the comeback but were able to give them some momentum going into the second game. The game would end 3-2 in favor of Team Steel Molinaro. Game 2 FINAL SCORE: Phenom Baseball 3, Team Steel Molinaro 2, WP James Haupt (CG, 3Ks, 4Hs) pic.twitter.com/bne4y1RF1n — Axcess Baseball LI (@axcessbaseball) July 22, 2021 Game 2 would start about 15 minutes after game one and Phenom Baseball showed how important it was to grab that momentum at the end of the first game. The second game ended in a 3-2 score but this time it would be Phenom Baseball that would take the win and they started the scoring early on in the game. The second inning would be where the action would kick off on the offensive side as Phenom scored 2 runs on one swing to make it happen. Anthony Baggetta and Michael Emanuele lead things off in the inning with back-to-back singles. Both of these runners would later advance to 2nd and 3rd. Elijah Munoz had a crucial AB in this inning. He would ground one slowly that, at first, looked like a routine grounder. Anthony Baggetta then made a super smart baserunning play to disturb that. The ball was grounded to the 3rd base side so the 3rd baseman was going for the ball, Baggetta saw that and he ran almost half way down the base path. The pitcher saw this and tried getting him out at 3rd but there was nobody home so Baggetta returned safely at 3rd and Munoz was safe at first with the FC. That would bring up Brandon Iaveroni, who did a really nice job reading an incoming curve and then drove a hard ground ball through the 5-6 hole that would allow Baggetta and Emanuele to score. That gave them a 2-0 lead. Phenom would hold that lead until the bottom of the 5th inning where Team Steel would score 1 to cut the lead to 1. Ryan Yerkes would leadoff this inning with an infield single to the right side. Yerkes gave it all he had running down the base path and it paid off big with the single. Yerkes getting on was crucial for this inning because a couple batters later, Tyler Young would drive him in. He would do this with a super long shot that carried past the left fielder. Yerkes once again displayed his hustle as he went all away from 1st to home to score in Team Steel’s first run of the game. Phenom wouldn’t wait long to respond as they would put up a run in the top of the 6th to make it a 3-1 ballgame. This run was scored by Emanuele on a wild pitch. Emanuele got to third after walking to leadoff the inning then going 1st to 3rd after a single from James Haupt. The back and forth scoring continued in the bottom of the 6th when Team Steel would get the lead back down to 1.This inning started with a leadoff walk to Ryan Suppa. He would then get out due to a force on Domenic Cassino’s FC. Cassino would then go from 1st to 3rd on a 2B from Matthew Tusiani-Eng in the left center gap. Cassino would then come in to score after a grounder from Connor Riegal with one out. That run made it a 3-2 game heading into the 7th and final inning. After a scoreless top of the 7th, Team Steel had one more shot to get it done but on the bump was James Haupt for Phenom Baseball. Haupt was attempting to get a complete game and wasn’t going to let one more inning get in his way. After having 2 runners on base, he was able to get the final out the same way he got most outs in this game, by pitching to contact. The ground out ended the game and got Haupt the win and a complete game. Both teams stack up at near the top of the 16u American Division so they both look to continue their strong seasons after splitting the DH.

The post Team Steel and Phenom Baseball Split Two Excellent Games appeared first on Axcess Baseball.

by Gabe Zoda

After the game we caught up with WP James Haupt to talk about today’s DH and his CG on the mound. pic.twitter.com/vIFiVePEDz

— Axcess Baseball LI (@axcessbaseball) July 22, 2021

Whenever you have two good teams going up against each other, you know it’s going to be a good game.

Dominant Pitching Leads Steel to DH Sweep over LI Strong

Vinny Messana

Archive

Game Recaps

NEWS

Billy Kender

Jackson Sattinger

John Rizzo

LI Boys of Summer

Team Steel

Tyler O'Neill

Some familiar names were on display in today’s Boys of Summer-Perfect Game Collegiate League double header at Brentwood State Park between the Steel Collegiates and LI Strong. Despite fielding a team of primarily 2021 graduates, Steel looked like a team mature beyond their years and executed well in all aspects of the game. It starts with pitching and they performed in spaces. Here’s how it went down: Game 1 Tyler O’Neill took the mound for the Steel Collegiates. He is fresh off winning Nassau Conference II Pitcher of the Year for Mepham. He picked up right where he left off, but before he took the mound he was staked to a 1-0 lead. Joe Sanguedolce (St. Joseph’s) led off with a single to right and scored on Billy Kender’s RBI double. It was a huge day for Kender – teammate of O’Neill at Mepham and future teammate at Bucknell. LI Strong’s RHP Ben Sacks was uncomfortable with the mound all day, and he was struggling to find his footing. He was able to settle down after the first three batters reached and struck out the next three batters in succession to put out the fire. O’Neill took the mound and was lights out from the first pitch. He struck out Julian Belardo (Penn State Harrisburg), Corey Tingo (Queens) and Brad Sakellarides (Queens) in the first inning. In the top of the second, Steel went back to work. Bobby Molinaro (Adelphi) led off with a walk and advanced on a comebacker. After a wild pitch, Hayden Leiderman (Roslyn) grounded out to first to score Molinaro. Leiderman is coming off an historic season for Roslyn as he pitched the entire regular season (40.0 IP) without giving up an earned run. LI Strong got their first base runner with one out in the second on an infield single off the bat of Elian Pimental (Herkimer). O’Neill failed to cover the base or it would’ve been a routine ground out. After a strikeout, Ben Osborne (Mansfield) drew a walk to put runners on the corners. Strong had an opportunity to get on the board but O’Neill was able to strikeout Ethan Angress (CCNY) to end the jam. It was a crucial moment of the game, as O’Neill was able to snuff out the rally. Billy Kender came through again with a two-run single to right center to score both runners and advance on the throw. The game was broken open in the fourth inning. John Rizzo (East Islip) started it off with a single to right and scored on an RBI double by Bobby Molinaro to left center. Thomas Gray (Mount St. Vincent) followed with an RBI double of his own. The next two batters were retired but Ryan Thompson came through with an RBI single to right and another run scored on an error off the bat of Sanguedolce. With the score 8-0 and O’Neill in control, the outcome was not in question. O’Neill fired up another goose egg in the fourth inning with a strikeout to send his offense back in the dugout. They added two more runs – one on an RBI double by Tyler Smith (The Stony Brook School) and a sac fly off the bat of Molinaro. O’Neill made one mistake and it went for a solo shot off the bat of Danny Deutsch (Queens). After that, he recorded a strikeout and a ground out to first to end it. He finished with 9 strikeouts and allowed just two hits. Game 2 John Rizzo fired five shutout innings in Game 2 of today’s double header sweep over LI Strong. He spoke about his performance and looking back on capturing the Long Island Championship last week pic.twitter.com/breAZt6Vli — Axcess Baseball LI (@axcessbaseball) June 27, 2021 John Rizzo took the mound for Steel. His last start was a memorable one – a complete game in the Long Island Championship game for East Islip against Bethpage. He had a remarkable season and probably has a gripe about not winning the Paul Gibson Award. Undefeated, Long Island Champ, two strikeouts per inning and a sub 1.00 ERA should be enough in most years. In any event, he picked up right where he left off – throwing an effortless 1-2-3 inning with a strikeout. Bobby DiCapua (Bentley) got the start for the Strong. Last time we saw him was during the 2019 season pitching for West Islip. The previous year, he led them to the Suffolk County Championship as a sophomore. He did not have his best stuff today – Steel scored in the first inning on another RBI double by Kender (his fourth straight hit of the day) to make it 1-0. He score Jackson Sattinger who singled. After walks to Thompson and Freddy Forgione (Maritime), DiCapua escaped further trouble with a strikeout and pop out. In the second inning, Danny Deutsch doubled to left field with one out, but Rizzo promptly picked him off. He struck out Pimental to end the inning with his third strikeout of the game. In the home half of the second, Steel broke it open. Gold Glove Award winner Peter DeVito (Eastport-South Manor) doubled to right to open the inning and he advanced to third on a single by Hamilton. Patrick Dallas (Pat-Med) singled to score DeVito and then Sattinger drove them both in with a three-run shot to center to make it 5-0. DiCapua retired the next two batters to end the frame. Rizzo threw a 1-2-3 third inning with his fourth strikeout of the game to send his offense back into the dugout. Steel broke it open in the third with singles by Forgione, Molinaro and Peter DeVito. Hamilton ripped an RBI single but Molinaro was thrown out attempting to score. Patrick Dallas hit another RBI single to make it 7-0. The fourth inning was Rizzo’s most dominant inning as he struck out the side (all swinging) to bring his K total to seven on the afternoon. That was all for the scoring as Tyler Soloman (Bridgeport) threw a scoreless fifth inning for the Strong and Jackson Sattinger came on in relief to throw a scoreless inning to end the game. Following the game, Rizzo was pleased with his performance and the way his team played. It’s his first week with the Steel after playing his travel ball with the Junior Ducks for several years.

The post Dominant Pitching Leads Steel to DH Sweep over LI Strong appeared first on Axcess Baseball.

Some familiar names were on display in today’s Boys of Summer-Perfect Game Collegiate League double header at Brentwood State Park between the Steel Collegiates and LI Strong. It’s even more rare to do thrive once you get there. It’s such a competitive atmosphere and the players from the south are simply at an advantage when it comes to hitting the high-end pitchers. Jason Ambos, a Bay Shore-native, but now at Elev8 Academy in Delray Beach, FL., recently announced his commitment to play at University of Central Florida in the AAC Conference. Ambos is a left-handed hitting outfielder with lightning in his bat and great speed. He plays summer ball for Team Steel. UCF was off to a 15-3 start in the 2020 season and well on their way to an NCAA Tournament appearance before the season was cancelled. I had a chance to speak with Ambos and here’s what he had to say… Can you tell us about your experience with the college recruiting process – how did you wind up committing to a top 25 team in the nation from the northeast? Were you able to see the campus? Was this a difficult decision to make? First off, I have to give credit to the incredible coaches at Team Steel, Specifically Cam Sorgie and Keith Osik. They saw something in me and believed in my abilities. My recruitment process definitely fell victim to the pandemic, as I am sure many others were. Luckily as aforementioned, my coaches felt I had the ability and mental strength it takes to play high-level college ball and were able to get me in contact with many different coaches. From that point, It was extremely important to establish a relationship with coaches so they can try to decipher not only what kind of ballplayer you were but what kind of man you were as well. These conversations paired with the constant sharing of game video and practice allowed me to move high up on the recruiting lists. It is easy for many to say that the pandemic has taken away everyone’s opportunity but, I did not let it stop me. I worked out and practiced consistently which only helped add size, strength and helped fine tune certain skills. By continuing to get better and better, UCF became extremely interested in my abilities. The whole process lasted for about eight months from first contact to eventual offer. About a month prior to committing, my father and I were able to tour the campus as well as the amazing baseball facilities. From this point it had become clear that UCF was a place I could spend the next four years of my life. After talking to assistant head coach Tom and Head coach Lovelady about what makes UCF special, the decision was very easy and I could not be more excited to be a Knight! Are you currently at Elev8 Academy? What was the motivation behind transferring there from Bay Shore? How frequently are you back home? Yes, I am currently at Elev8 academy here in Delray Beach, Florida. After serious consideration, my family and coaches decided that moving here to Elev8 would give me the opportunity to drastically improve my skills but more importantly play the baseball that was stolen due to the pandemic. This, paired with the fact that I would still be enrolled at Bay Shore High School to take online classes, were the dominant factors that led to the move. In the short time being here, I have matured in every aspect of the game and am extremely grateful for the amazing coaches and players we have here. Regarding returning home, I was home for the holidays such as Thanksgiving and Christmas until I returned here to stay for the remainder of our spring season which ends in May. Judging by the way things are shaping up I am planning on returning to Bay Shore shortly after to play in my final season as a Marauder and wrap up my high school career. What did you work on this offseason? The biggest thing I worked on this offseason was defensively in the outfield. The great outfield coach here at Elev8 helped me refine my movements and taught me how to efficiently field and move to the ball. This training has helped me become a far more athletic ballplayer. In addition I worked on making my arm path more efficient to aid with velocity and accuracy, and this is something I will continue to work on. Goals for 2021? My goals for 2021 are fairly simple. I want to finish out my spring here at Elev8 and have a great final season at Bay Shore. From there I will continue to work out and get stronger to be ready for when I report to UCF in mid June to start my summer work. Favorite players in Major League Baseball and why? My favorite players in the MLB would have to be as follows: Mike Trout: Not only does he play the outfield but the way he carries himself along with his raw ability is just something to marvel at. DJ Lemahieu: If you are a Yankee fan, then you will know what I mean when I say he is the definition of a machine. I love watching his approach at the plate and how he puts on a hitting display for all who watch. Not to mention, the guy is clutch. Francisco Lindor: Lindor is a guy I love to try and emulate. From his sweet lefty swing to his positive attitude, he is a really fun player to watch. Who are some people that have positively influenced your career? There are numerous people who have influenced my career for the better. My parents have no doubt had the greatest impact for always believing in me and for giving me the opportunity to do what I love. My brothers have also played a large role in my career. I have to thank them for always supporting me and introducing me to the gym where many of my skills were able to be amplified as a result. Finally, I can say without hesitation that Cam Sorgie of Team Steel is right there in terms of influence. He has stepped up to bat for me since day one and I couldn’t ask for a better coach. He is someone who I can call a good friend and I have no doubt that we will be in touch for a very long time. He is simply the best out there. Favorite pregame meal? My favorite pregame meal would have to be some grilled BBQ chicken paired with a baked sweet potato and asparagus. It sounds fancy but it’s super easy to make and it fills me up perfectly prior to getting ready for a game. Favorite musical artist? This is a tough one because I genuinely like all types of music, but as of right now If I had to narrow it down it would be between Post Malone, J. Cole, and Juice WRLD. This changes all of the time so it all depends on what I’m feeling. Favorite vacation spot? I have very fond memories of being in Orlando and going to Universal Studios with my family and having fun riding roller coasters. Honestly my family doesn’t go on many vacations so I would have to say my favorite spots are where baseball tournaments take us. Funny enough UCF happens to be in Orlando so maybe I’ll be able to head to Universal more often! Best baseball trip you’ve been on? I’m sure this answer is very cliche but I would have to say Cooperstown. I played extremely well and had an amazing time at the event. Those are memories I will never forget. Who’s some teammates you have gotten close with over the years? Over the years I have gotten very close with players such as Chris and Matt Rouleau and Ty Panariello. Those are guys who I consider best friends. A name that almost nobody from the Island will know Is Carter Brady but he is from here in Florida and attends Elev8. Being older, he has really taken me under his wing and taught me everything he knows about the game. We have truly bonded and I cannot thank him enough for what he has done.

The post Q & A With UCF-commit Jason Ambos appeared first on Axcess Baseball.

Uncommitted 2022 Jason Ambos pic.twitter.com/yYLHaxBE6V

— Axcess Baseball LI (@axcessbaseball) November 29, 2020

It’s not often that a Long Island-born position player is able to play at a powerhouse Division-I program in the south.

My favorite players in the MLB would have to be as follows:

Mike Trout: Not only does he play the outfield but the way he carries himself along with his raw ability is just something to marvel at.

Axcess Interview With Frankie Noto

Vinny Messana

Archive

NEWS

Axcess Baseball Podcast

Frankie Noto

Team Steel

Westhampton Beach

The post Axcess Interview With Frankie Noto appeared first on Axcess Baseball.

The post Axcess Interview With Frankie Noto appeared first on Axcess Baseball.
