Team Francisco Select overcame an early 4-0 deficit to defeat the New York Longhorns by the score of 6-5 to capture the 12u American Columbus Day Tournament. In the top of the first inning, the Longhorns immediately got on the board with an RBI single by Connor Fierro which was misplayed in left field and allowed two runs to score. Two batters later, Vincent Vargas ripped a two-run single, which was misplayed in center and right away it was a 4-0 deficit. Things did not look great at that moment for Team Francisco, but they never wavered. In fact, t...

GAME RECAP: Team Francisco and LI Black Diamonds End their Duel in a Tie

by Chris Donnelly Post game interview with Mac Fairbairn pic.twitter.com/1HpTqFIiLH — Axcess Baseball LI (@axcessbaseball) July 2, 2023 In an 11u Pool Play Matchup between Team Francisco and LI Black Diamonds in the Stars & Stripes East Coast Tournament both teams battled all the way to the end when the game ended in a 2-2 tie. In the 1st inning, starting pitcher Mac Fairbairn struck out the first 2 batters in what looked like to be a 1-2-3 inning until the Diamonds had other plans. A 2-out single from Joey Puglissi brought up Nick Petrosino, who smoked a ball down the right field line bringing in Puglissi but a nice relay by Team Francisco gunning down Petrosino at 3rd to end the inning with the Diamonds leading 1-0 after the top of the 1st inning. The Black Diamonds sent Puglissi to ...

Chris Diesso Ready to Put Injuries Behind Him for a Breakout Season

Chris Diesso hit a walk-off HR in the bottom of the 7th to give Hauppauge a 4-3 win over North Babylon pic.twitter.com/mldNedVh6H — Axcess Baseball LI (@axcessbaseball) April 18, 2022 Injuries are a part of the game of baseball, but sometimes they can be especially cruel. We always hear about the success stories in amateur baseball but sometimes we get desensitized to the real emotional roller coasters that high school kids go through during their prime recruiting years. Hauppauge catcher Chris Diesso is a tremendously talented player that has been hit hard with some bad luck but is now entering his senior year of high school and is fully healthy for the first time in a while. He will be an X-Factor for the Eagles as they look to make a deep playoff run this year with a talented roster tha...

Up Next Powered by Eye Q Investigations: Matt Cruz

Good look here at Matt Cruz (‘24, NY) snatching a few 87s early in outing. 82-85 mph range w/ FB that shows some riding life (2200-2300 RPM), strong feel for SL w/ horz & vert tilt, landing in zone often (2100-2300 RPM). Comes from extended 3/4 slot. #16uMASelect @PG_Uncommitted pic.twitter.com/f4cMZgEwmr — PG Mid Atlantic (NY, NJ, PA, MD) (@PGMidAtlantic) July 17, 2022 Typically players that get called up to varsity as a sophomore in the Catholic League struggle to find their footing at first. After all, it is the most competitive league on the island and the bulk of the players tend to be seniors. That age difference can make all the difference in many cases. Most players are not like Matt Cruz, though, he came up to varsity as a sophomore and all he did was lead the CHSAA in AVG (.5...

Andrew Koshy Commits to Wake Forest

1-2-3 first inning for sophomore flame thrower Andrew Koshy. Kellenberg coming to bat. The two teams are fired up pic.twitter.com/cJNppYy8ys — Axcess Baseball LI (@axcessbaseball) May 28, 2021 One of the top pitchers on Long Island is off the board. Kellenberg stud RHP Andrew Koshy announced his verbal commitment to Wake Forest late last night. Koshy was called up to varsity last season as a sophomore for the Firebirds. Truthfully, it was a no-brainer. Koshy would’ve posed a safety issue to JV hitters. He was sitting in the mid 80s last year, and since that time he has only improved. He’s now touching 90 and has a filthy slider to accompany it. We featured him as part of our “Up Next” series last November following his breakout season for Team Francisco Notorious 9 ...

Team Francisco Takes Home Boys of Summer 16u National Fall Championship Over LIB

by Nicholas Cipolla Will Irwin makes it 2-1 team Francisco with a 2 out double to center pic.twitter.com/ZTw5VNkMKW — Axcess Baseball LI (@axcessbaseball) November 7, 2021 Team Francisco and LIB quite literally played until the sun set on the 2021 season. Team Francisco took home the fall season championship in a 3-1 victory in 6 innings as they had to battle not just LIB, but also the fading sunlight as daylight savings time began today.  This meant that the sunset today was at approximately 4:40 and this game (slated for 1:30) was pushed back to a 2:57 pm first pitch due to a semi-final game concluding on the site of the championship game. Despite this, we still had a game to be played, and a champion to be crowned. LIB drew first blood in the first inning on a first and third double ste...

Joe Francisco Wins Vote For Best Hitting Instructor on LI

It started as an idea while I was shoveling last Monday and turned into an 8-day voting extravaganza that turned into a ‘social media war’, as someone described to me. There’s millions of awards given to players but why not the coaches? I was curious to see what our audience thinks, so I began with a vote of ‘best hitting instructor’ on Long Island. I asked for recommendations and took the top 32 candidates and turned it into an NCAA style bracket. Clearly, some very good instructors were not included if they don’t happen to utilize social media and for that I apologize. As for the bracket, the final four featured Frank Catalanotto, Ryan Pembroke, Anthony Passalacqua and Joe Francisco. The upset in the previous round was Ryan Pembroke over Keith Osik. To...

Who Were Some of The Top Travel Teams in 2020?

Unfortunately we did not have a high school baseball season in 2020 which crushed a majority of our content throughout the year. This included game coverage, power rankings and postseason awards.
