Despite the fact that the tournament took place in Suffolk County, Nassau was the higher seeded team after winning the regular season title after beating Suffolk three times in their four games. After yesterday’s 14-6 loss, Nassau had a quick turnaround and played Bronx CC later in the afternoon. The Lions dominated Bronx 14-1 and advanced to play Suffolk, needing to beat them twice in one day to win the tournament. Suffolk CC displayed a show of dominance in their 14-6 victory over Nassau CC in the NJCAA Region XV playoffs. The Sharks advance to tomorrow and are set to play Nassau again, needing just one win to advance to the World Series. Despite the impressive run margin, Suffolk was down 3-0 after the first inning. Nassau sophomore outfielder Vincent Napolitano got this three-and-a-half hour offensive showcase started by driving a two-out, three-run homerun over the left field fence. “We had great approaches and we swung at really good pitches,” said Suffolk head coach Brian Klammer. “Not swinging at bad pitches is the key to winning.” Suffolk, however, was not deterred by this quick three-run deficit. Taking over for a legendary Head Coach such as Eric Brown is always a challenge but Brian Klammer is ready for the task. “I’m excited to be taking over here at Suffolk and I hope to be able to keep the tradition of preparing our players for four-year institutions. I’m excited about our incoming class of freshmen and transfers,” he said. Klammer is a graduate of Dowling College where he played ball before coaching as an assistant at Suffolk from 2002-’06. Last year’s team was loaded with talent, with three of their players (Shawn Blasberg, Joseph Murphy and Joseph Mattero) being named to our 2017 All-Long Island team. Murphy was ranked fifth in the nation in AVG at .486 and also led the nation in ERA at 1.21. All three have moved on to other programs but ...
