Without question the strength of this team will be in the pitching staff. They can come at you from all different arm angles and sizes. Senior LHP Teddy Rodliff has the “funky delivery” according to Head Coach Matt Senk, owner of 745 career wins and a .606 winning percentage. Cole Creighton stands 5’9″, while Greg Marino is an imposing 6’6″. All of these pitchers, though, throw hard and will make it very difficult for opposing batters in the America East. The 2017 Axcess Baseball Rookie of the Year, Brian Herrmann, will be looking to buil...
I attended the joint workout between Rocky Point and Newfield at Stony Brook University and here are some observations from it: Rob Milopsky is a Div-I pitcher in my opinion. He does a number of things that jump out at me. First of all, he has extremely fluid mechanics. It looks like he is having a catch, but once he ramped up his effort he was sitting 85 and he touched 87 MPH. Additionally, he throws a very good slider that is a weapon. Last year, he pitched only briefly at the varsity level due to the upperclassmen that were in the rotation. Still, Coach Aschettino stated that he has already faced the most pressure-packed situation that he can possibly face–coming in with the bases loaded in the eighth inning against Brock Murtha with a one-run lead. He passed that test with flying...

6’6″ Greg Marino is coming off a great year and is up to 88-90 MPH with his heater. Certainly a potential draft candidate pic.twitter.com/d5UKWGTEoS Axcess Baseball (@axcessbaseball) October 16, 2017 This afternoon I was at Stony Brook University to watch their Scout Day, which was attended by at least 20 MLB scouts from across the region. Stony Brook is one of the few teams in the region that consistently have their players selected in the MLB Draft. This year should be no different, as they have a handful of players that are draft-eligible. Additionally, they have younger players that could garner interest in the coming years. Below is my observations from the workout. Dylan Resk (JR) is a 6’1″ power-hitting outfielder that smacked 13 HR last year and drove...
Double barrel action with Brian Herrmann and Kris Killackey pic.twitter.com/zNqkpZNGmj Axcess Baseball (@axcessbaseball) September 28, 2017 Strong defense and base running has been a hallmark of Stony Brook through out Head Coach Matt Senk’s tenure. Entering his 28th season at the helm, the Sea Wolves’ skipper’s attention to detail is pretty remarkable. While I observed their practice today, they spent roughly 30-35 minutes practicing every type of bunt scenario. No detail was too small to be accounted for. While he was monitoring the batters’ mechanics on their bunts, another coach was timing their sprinting speed to first and another coach was on the base paths directing the fielders. With runs at a premium in the America East, these defensive strategies co...
Babylon senior pitcher Shaun Kaminski went head-to-head with Center Moriches junior LHP Liam Pulsipher–one of the best pitchers in the county. Kaminski fired a complete game, recording the 3-0 victory with five strikeouts, five hits and two walks. “It’s nice to finally beat Pulsipher, we dropped two games to him, the one last year in the county championship, 1-0, and early in the season, 3-1,” said Babylon head coach Victor Manzella. “I couldn’t be more proud of my boys, I couldn’t be more proud of Shaun [Kaminski]; the way he pitched and it was good to get a W in the first game of the playoffs.” The SUNY Old Westbury-commit opened up the scoring for Babylon after leading off the sixth inning with a single. Kaminski came across on an error off the bat of Joe Rende. This would end up ...
