As many people know, it was an extremely fruitful year for college baseball on Long Island. While it is easy to see the Division-I teams like Stony Brook on ESPN and a Division-II team in the College World Series, the success of the local Division-III teams can fly under the radar. It has been our mission at Axcess Baseball to shine a light on those programs and we do so by segments like the Fall Ball Series Presented by the Greene Turtle, or covering a double header in March, or having wall-to-wall coverage of the Skyline Conference tournament, or having the players compete in a Home Run Derby, or honored at an Awards Banquet. It’s good to see the players get recognized by outside publications too, though. The big one came out this week with ABCA/Rawlings releasing their All-Region ...

SUNY Maritime overcame deficits of 4-0, 7-3 and 9-8 to complete an impressive 10-9 comeback victory against No. 5 St. Joseph’s-LI, the reigning champions on a walk-off walk by Shane Sullivan in the bottom of the ninth. Final: St. Joseph’s 11, Lehman 1 Anthony Raucci discusses the victory and his 3 RBI day pic.twitter.com/0xkNKAjZdm — Axcess Baseball LI (@axcessbaseball) March 12, 2019 St. Joseph’s was the last of the Long Island colleges to kick off their 2019 season, but it was worth the wait. They begin their season with an 11-1 victory over Lehman. They compiled 13 hits and benefited from shoddy defense, as Lehman committed six defensive miscues. Ryan Foran got the start. The reigning Paul Gibson Award winner was sharp in his collegiate debut, throwing two shutout innings, allowing just one hit. Their ace, Anthony Papa, also pitched two innings, touching 89 MPH on a few occasions. Other pitchers that threw an inning were Nick Mannarino, Kevin Yohe, Tim Woodford, Anthony Caminiti and Justin...
(Photo Credit: James Escher) When St. Joseph’s graduated two All-Long Island pitchers, Brandon Lubrano and Josh Outsen, following the 2017 season, it was a major question mark as to how they would replace two rock-solid veterans anchoring the rotation. It took almost until the New Year, but they seem to have answered that question with the addition of two-time All-State pitcher Anthony Papa, who transferred from Coastal Carolina (originally attended LIU Post in fall 2015). Papa was regarded as one of the best pitchers on Long Island during his stellar career at Division HS that culminated in firing a six-hit shutout against Bayport-Blue Point in the 2015 Class A Long Island Championship at NYIT. Papa will join forces with Joseph Murphy, a transfer from Suffolk CC (Sachem East 2015) i...
Our Fall Ball Series continues at SUNY Maritime–the reigning Skyline Conference champs pic.twitter.com/p2cXZNgebb Axcess Baseball (@axcessbaseball) October 17, 2017 Coming off the best season in program history, the Maritime Privateers have a right to be confident and playing loose as they attempt to defend their Skyline Conference title. They held a 3-2 lead into the fifth inning of the NCAA Regionals against powerhouse Shenandoah, who spent eight consecutive weeks as the No. 1 ranked Div-III team in the country. They ultimately had their season cut short but they are in great position for another successful season. In addition to returning seven of their nine starters, they are also returning their entire starting rotation led by Rookie of the Year Travis Bruinsma and Anthon...
Here is Joseph Murphy showing off his knuckleball. He was All-American at Suffolk CC last season and will be a key cog in their rotation pic.twitter.com/0Gt9PajxNu Axcess Baseball (@axcessbaseball) September 23, 2017 We continue our Fall Ball Series with St. Joseph’s. I was down at Gregg Alfano Field watching their intrasquad game today. Coming off a 25-win season, the Golden Eagles are once again a formidable player in the Skyline Conference entering 2018. Despite having their championship hopes dashed by Mount St. Mary’s last season, the Golden Eagles have the most complete roster in the conference. They will be led by a potent lineup featuring Lou Doria, Paul Britt, Daniel Campanelli, Dylan Piscitelli, Matthew Burnett, Tyler Crafa, Anthony Raucci and Tyler S...
Led by the scorching-hot bat of junior Lou Doria, the St. Joseph’s Golden Eagles took the Skyline Conference tournament game by storm as they posted a commanding 18-4 victory against Mount St. Mary’s on Saturday. Everything was going right for the Golden Eagles as they put up 22 hits offensively and their pitching was efficient. They will move on to play Maritime at 11 am on Sunday morning. The Golden Eagles took control of this one early as they put 11 runs in the first two innings batting through the lineup twice. They sent ten hitters to the plate as they scored six runs in the first inning due to consecutive hits through the middle of the order. The big story, however, was Doria. This kid just flat out rakes. He smacked a pair of two-run homers in his first two at-bats in t...
