That appears to be the case for the St. Anthony’s Friars, who are flourishing in 2022. They defeated St. John the Baptist, 8-0, behind the second straight complete game shutout by Jason DeCaro – their ace junior who lowered his ERA to 1.42 with 31 strikeouts over 24.2 IP. He has taken that next step and become the ace they envisioned. DeCaro was lights-out, striking out 10, walking three and allowing just three hits (one was a misplayed double) over a complete g...
Fordham-commit Jack Vallario (St. Anthony’s 2022) is the reigning CHSAA Player of the Year. Compiled OPS of 1.253. Pro potential pic.twitter.com/B8OnvFZl60 — Axcess Baseball LI (@axcessbaseball) February 1, 2022 Led by the returning CHSAA Player of the Year, Jack Vallario, St. Anthony’s is looking to take a step forward in 2022. They were defeated in the first round of the playoffs by St. Dominic, but they have their sights set on taking a leap this season. Vallario, a senior SS that is committed to Fordham University, is coming off an outstanding 2021 season that has earned him the respect of teammates and opposing players alike. Coach Paul Parsolano had high praise for his captain: “I attach other infielders to him – they follow his lead,” said Parsolano, wh...

That was not the case today, as St. Dominic RHP Logan Gersbeck was efficient and kept the St. Anthony’s offense at bay for most of the game and his offense backed him with a five-run third inning as the Bayhawks advanced with an 11-6 victory and they will face Kellenberg next Monday. Final (8 innings): Chaminade 2, St. Anthony’s 1 WP: Andrew Heiderstadt Vin Roman go-ahead hit to score Anthony Lods pic.twitter.com/7wqqhZAOgZ — Axcess Baseball LI (@axcessbaseball) April 30, 2021 When you hear about the CHSAA being the most competitive league on Long Island, it’s because of the parity. This week was an excellent example in the series between Chaminade and St. Anthony’s. In the rematch of the 2019 championship series, the teams exchanged victories on Tuesday and Wednesday in the first two games of the series setting the stage for today. Chaminade was able to come away with the 2-1 victory, with the go-ahead run scoring in the top of the 8th inning on an RBI single by Vin Roman to score Anthony Lods – who led off the inning with a walk. As is usually...
Final: Chaminade 11, St. Anthony’s 5 WP: John Downing pic.twitter.com/xoWMAPcczU — Axcess Baseball LI (@axcessbaseball) April 28, 2021 It turns out the demise of Chaminade was greatly exaggerated. The reigning champs went out on opening day at St. Anthony’s and handed it to the Friars with an 11-5 victory. Both teams are fielding inexperienced rosters in terms of their varsity experience, but Chaminade is certainly not lacking in their star power and that was evident today. Head Coach Mike Pientkos who has led the Flyers to over 600 wins spoke to me last week about the uncertainty of his roster and their lack of experience at this level. He did note, however, that they have a lot of players that can really play the game and will be impact players for them. From my vantage point...
One of the most critical aspects of a team is defense up the middle. Solidifying those portions of the field will often go a long way in run prevention and, ultimately, turning close games into wins. St. Anthony’s Head Coach Paul Parsolano, entering his second full season, sees this as his team’s strength citing his two senior catchers, Eddie Lippert & Anthony Capogna, as well as the double play duo of Jack Vallario & Alex Celeiro and CF Mike DeSantis. He stated that DeSantis may be their most talented defensive player on the team and will cover the most important position in the outfield. Vallario has already proven his mettle at the varsity level. Parsolano noted before he was called up, the team was treading water. “Once he got called up against Holy Trinity, h...
Bases clearing triple Cameron Dunn and St. Anthony’s has a 4-0 lead in the first inning pic.twitter.com/EYUltOOBk4 — Axcess Baseball LI (@axcessbaseball) May 22, 2019 There’s nothing quite as anxiety-inducing like elimination playoff baseball, but those tensions are certainly eased by 17-run outputs. For the third straight game, St. Anthony’s was able to stave off elimination and win to keep their 2019 season alive following last week’s first round loss to Kellenberg. Tonight they were able to get retribution with a 17-7 win over the Firebirds to continue to advance in the losers’ bracket. They will face a very difficult No. 2 seed St. John the Baptist on Thursday night in West Islip. Tonight they got to a huge start against Saint Anselm-commit Frank Roder. They took advantage of wal...
