In a move that is likely to reverberate throughout Long Island baseball, Paul Parsolano will be the new Head Coach of St. Anthony’s, where he was previously an assistant from 1995-2007. In fact, the last time St. Anthony’s won the CHSAA title was in 2000, when he was on staff. He is also credited with the rapid ascension of Franklin Parra from obscurity to being drafted by the New York Mets in the 11th round this past June. Parsolano had been the pitching coach of St. Joseph’s College since 2014, where he helped break their drought of winning the Skyline Conference championship in 2016. They also won it in 2018, in large part to his pitching staff. Here are some facts since he took over. 2 Conference Championships (2016, 2018) 2 Regular Season Championships (2015, 2017) 6...
St. Anthony’s is in search of a new Head Coach, following the departure of John Phelan–who was at the helm since 2011. The Friars are coming off a 13-win season in which they were defeated, 3-2, by St. Dominic at St. Joseph’s College. They graduated some impact players including top starting pitcher, Jared Restmeyer, outfielder Jordan Rose and SS Robbie Affenita. They are looking for a Head Coach with previous coaching experience, according to Athletic Director Joe Minucci. Interested candidates should contact the St. Anthony’s Athletic Department.
With the weather cooling down and football season in gear, I thought it would be a good time to take a look and see which of the top seniors remain unsigned. By no means is it too late, it used to be the norm for a player to wait until the fall of their season year to decide where they will attend college. Times have changed, though, and many of the elite players have announced their verbal commitments as soon as their freshman year. Below are the best remaining unsigned 2019 grads. Pitchers Cameron Mayer, RHP Syosset Matt DiGennaro, RHP Ward Melville Chris Palmer, RHP East Islip Ethan Farino, RHP Ward Melville Bryce Grathwohl, RHP Matituck Anthony Cinquemani, RHP West Islip Justin Harvey, RHP Smithtown East Catchers Matt Yip, Herricks Alec Maag, Center Moriches Kyle Jaspers, Cold Spring H...
On a hot & humid August afternoon, two players stole the show and stood above the rest in their respective brackets. Steven Rizzo (St. Anthony’s) captured the high school division and Vito Friscia (Hofstra) captured the college division in front of a packed crowd at Baseball Heaven. Rizzo led all high school hitters with 10 home runs, including seven in the first round. He defeated Matt Brown-Eiring (Connetquot 2020) in the championship round with two home runs. David Falco (Center Moriches 2019) smacked 3 HR, Brock Murtha (Saville 2020) hit two while Kyle Rausch (Longwood 2019) and Brown-Eiring each hit one. The college age players put on a clinic. St. Joseph 1B Paul Britt hit four home runs. He is a finalist for our Axcess Most Valuable Player for his amazing 2018 season for th...
When St. Anthony’s opens up the 2018 season, they will do so with heavy hearts. Just one month ago, beloved senior Anthony Pagano, 17, was tragically killed in a car crash in Albany. Head Coach John Phelan was on vacation with his grandchildren and came back to attend the funeral and console his grieving players during spring break. “They went in to spring break as 15, 16, 17-year old kids and they came back to school as young men,” said Phelan. “They really handled it with so much maturity. They have a different level of focus,” he said. The team is planning a few different tributes to the fallen teammate, including replacing the “S.A” behind home plate with “A.P.”, wearing camouflage No. 16 uniforms during the season and also a tribut...

Folgers gets it done for LI!! A grand slam in the ninth!!! Road Warriors lead, 11-8, with 2 outs now. pic.twitter.com/WMYvoEH1fT aXcess Baseball (@axcessbaseball) July 31, 2017 The Road Warriors showed up to Aviator Field hungry for a win. The game was started with a first pitch lead off homer for Nick Grande (Smithtown West ’16, Stony Brook). The middle infielder would have himself a monster day at the plate leaving the park twice with two dingers. He finished his day 3-for-5 with two HR and four RBI; his third hit of the day started the Road Warriors ninth inning rally. I think our lineup had a great day overall top to bottom, said Stony Brook sophomore Grande. The goal was to come out here and set the tone, we fell behind but showed a lot of resiliency wh...
Jordan Rose smacked a two-out, two-run double off the fence in left center field to give St. Anthony’s a 5-3 lead in the ninth inning, sending their dugout into a frenzy. It was their first lead of the day, and it proved to be the difference this afternoon. What a thrilling game it was between them and St. John the Baptist. Head Coach John Phelan was elated with the resilient effort of his Friars today, who came in facing a Cougars team who had fired four consecutive shutouts. “He (Jordan) came through in a big spot–a BIG spot–and delivered,” said Phelan. “You can’t put a price on that. They came prepared, they fought–we got behind 2-0 and their guy did a great job but we just battled. It was a constant battle. That’s what this who...
