GAME RECAP: St. Anthony’s Wins Extra Inning Thriller, Capture First Title in 24 Years

Here was the final out of last night’s NSCHSAA Final @SAFriarsBase pic.twitter.com/8b8kvPYgIo — Axcess Baseball LI (@axcessbaseball) May 27, 2024 Trailing 2-0 in the 6th inning against the reigning Catholic League Champs is an unenviable position to be in, but the St. Anthony’s Friars were not going to be denied this time. Not after coming up close in many instances over the past two decades as the Friars searched for that elusive Catholic League Championship. The 2024 Friars, led by head coach Paul Parsolano, were able to outlast Holy Trinity in 9 innings at Mitchel Field to capture their first NSCHSAA Championship since 2000. “I’m at a loss for words. They are such a tough team – to be able to keep answering the way these guys have. I can’t believe these guy...

GAME RECAP: St. Anthony’s Holds Off Kellenberg, 3-2, to Advance in NSCHSAA Playoffs

by Tucker Terranova Farmingdale State College hosted the NSCHSAA Quarterfinal Round on Sunday afternoon featuring two matchups between the top four seeds in perhaps Long Island’s most historic and competitive conference.  The latter of the day’s action showcased the No. 2 Kellenberg Firebirds and No. 3 St. Anthony’s Friars duking it out for the right to advance to the semifinals. The two rivals met twice in the regular season with Kellenberg sweeping the season series. However, they knew this was a different team than the one they faced in April. St. Anthony’s entered the playoffs as the hottest team in the conference, boasting a 7-1 record in the month of May. They maintained their momentum today, edging out Kellenberg in a gritty 3-2 victory. “We’ve had a good mindset all season but put ...

GAME RECAP: Victor Frederick Fires 6 Shutout Innings, St. Dominic Cruises to 9-3 Win

End of 1: Joe Galeotafiore rips a 2-out, 2-run double to left center St. Dominic 3, St. Anthony’s 0 pic.twitter.com/2Baqv8pfub — Axcess Baseball LI (@axcessbaseball) April 9, 2024 While St. Dominic has a young team, it doesn’t necessarily mean 2024 is a rebuilding year for them. Head Coach Joe Fusco said “these are not your typical freshman and sophomore type players, they are some of the best players in their class at that age.” They have backed up that talk and the Bayhawks defeated a tough St. Anthony’s team, 9-3, behind their ace, Victor Frederick. The St. John’s-commit went six shutout innings, allowing just three hits, issuing two walks and striking out six. He retired the first 10 batters to face him before sophomore CJ Alfano lined a single to get the ...

GAME RECAP: John Carroll Strikes Out 9 in 2-1 Opening Day Victory

by Max Edelman FINAL: @CHSFlyersBall 2 – @SAFriarsBase 1 John Carroll finishes off a complete game, in which he struck out nine. The Flyers hold off a late Friars surge to open their season with a win. pic.twitter.com/vqAKeEUyil — Axcess Baseball LI (@axcessbaseball) March 26, 2024 On a day where all seven Catholic League teams played at the Moriches Sports Complex to celebrate the beginning of a new season, the Chaminade Flyers defeated the St. Anthony’s Friars 2-1.  Entering the top of the seventh and final inning up 2-0, Chaminade starting pitcher John Carroll needed only three outs to give the Flyers the win, and his first complete game shutout of the season. However, that’s where things got dicey. The top half of the seventh began with Carroll getting sophomore CJ Alfano to hit ...

St. Anthony’s Eager to Take Next Step

Special thanks to Metamorphosis Landscape Design for sponsoring this year’s season preview series. St. Anthony’s has compiled a record of 25-8 over the past two regular seasons, but they fell short in the playoffs both times. Coach Paul Parsolano, now entering his 5th season with the club, is eager for his club to take that next step to get over the hump and break their championship drought. “The last two years we turned into a whole other team. We’ve been so close the last two years. We feel like the program is finally where we want it to be. I’ve never had this much depth since I’ve been here – at all three levels of the programs. We must be doing something right because more and more players are wanting to be here. I think we are ready to make t...

Evan Fallon (St. Anthony’s 2027) pic.twitter.com/tCbuoNiGcG — Axcess Baseball LI (@axcessbaseball) February 19, 2024 Despite sustaining an injury in the summer that limited his game-action, Evan Fallon recovered and posted a terrific fall season for the East Coast Lumberjacks. He compiled 45 at bats playing between the 2028s and 2026s. In that time, he notched 16 hits with 5 doubles, 2 triples and 12 RBIs. He was also able to notch 17 strikeouts over his 11 innings. Since that time, he has gained strength and has been reportedly siting 80 MPH and touching 83 MPH. This is for a 9th grader that hasn’t played a game of varsity ball yet at St. Anthony’s. His older brother, Joe, also attends St. Anthony’s and is one year older – he is committed to Long Island University....

The Rhode Island-commit took the mound today against the top-seeded Friars and he was usual dominant self, firing 6.2 shutout innings, allowing 1 hit, five walks, struck out 7 and left with a 1-0 lead. Closer Tyler Cook came on the retire Kevin Baez Jr to end the game and advance the Titans to the winner’s bracket. Both pitchers were completely dominant and did not allow a single hit t...

GAME RECAP: Powered by 5-Run First Inning, St. Anthony’s Cruises to 11-1 Win over St. John the Baptist

It’s what generally carries team in the playoffs – especially if you can get one of those top two seeds and get a bye. That’s exactly what they are working for and they are currently in position to do so – with just one week remaining in the regular season. The Friars – ...

St. Anthony’s Hungry and Motivated to Compete for CHSAA Title

Jason DeCaro following his complete game shutout pic.twitter.com/ST5eBcXaQN — Axcess Baseball LI (@axcessbaseball) April 26, 2022 When you look at some of the qualities of teams that have won the Catholic League in recent years – it starts with pitching and veteran leadership that can get it done when the chips are down. During a recent conversation between St. Anthony’s head coach Paul Parsolano and senior Jason Decaro, the two discussed which game of the series the North Carolina-commit would pitch. In no uncertain terms, Decaro said, “I’m starting on Tuesdays, and we win on Tuesdays.” It’s that level of confidence that has allowed Decaro to skyrocket up rankings by national publications like Baseball America and become a possible 2023 MLB Draft pick. ...

(This is the 12th installment of our weekly “Up Next Series Powered by Eye Q Investigations” in which we highlight the best underclassmen from across Long Island. Previously, we featured Miguel Sime Jr, Matt Cruz, Luke Coats, Michael Gardner, Tyler Scarry, Kenny Meliere, Jaiden Zoller, Max Donacea, Keegan McElligot, Lucien Saint Cyr and Jayden Gigante. Make sure to check out Eye Q Investigations by clicking here) The lifeblood of a successful Catholic League program is having talented players in the pipeline from the time they are in 9th grade. Being in the program for 4 years, as opposed to transferring for one year, getting great coaching, offseason training and plenty of playing time in JV are all factors that benefit players as they develop into upperclassmen. St. Anthony’s has b...

Up Next Powered by Eye Q Investigations: Luke Coats

(This is the third installment of the popular ‘Up Next’ Series in which we highlight the top underclassmen on Long Island. Previously we featured Miguel Sime Jr and Matt Cruz. Make sure you check out Eye Q Investigations by clicking here.) His freshman season in high school hasn’t even begun and already Luke Coats has turned many heads. Early in June, he was named the MVP of Perfect Game’s East Coast Qualifier in which Body Armor went 5-0. In July, he was one of the best performers at the Blue Chip Prospect’s Northeast College Coaches Camp when he was sitting in the low 80s in front of 24 coaches. Then, he went out and won Axcess Baseball’s Home Run Derby by putting on an absolute clinic in the finals with double digit home runs. Not to be outdone, he we...

Q & A With Brian Fitzpatrick

6’7 LHP Brian Fitzpatrick (St. Anthony’s/Rutgers) is back from Tommy John and up to 93 MPH pic.twitter.com/9VxNoGiDIj — Axcess Baseball LI (@axcessbaseball) January 11, 2020 (Photo Credit: Steve Hockstein) Brian Fitzpatrick is a 6’7 southpaw that dominated the Cape Cod League this summer. He allowed no runs over 19 innings for the Brewster Whitecaps against the top collegiate players in the country. Without a doubt that rocketed his value. He had Tommy John but is fully back and his best baseball may still be ahead of him as he only pitched 45 innings at Rutgers over 3 seasons. He was selected by the Milwaukee Brewers in the 10th round of the 2022 MLB Draft last month. On paper, this is the type of player that would have an excellent chance to move through the system quick and ...
