That one-year hiatus was a brief one as the Warriors have came storming back and are now 12-3 to begin the 2023 season. They were able to take a critical series against North Shore today by the score of 2-1 – as they displayed some of the key components to Wantagh baseball. They did face a tall order in facing hard-throwing southpaw Garret Gates on the road – and he showed what he was capable of with 9 strikeouts and just one hit allowed over 6.1 innings, but they were able to grind out at bats, draw 6 walks and ulti...

While the season may not have ended in a title, it was still essential for their growth. “One good thing [that] came out about it is that we did have a couple of underclassmen play a significant amount of time last year to gain experience going into this year.” Lineman said.  While most of their core still remains, they will be without ...

North Shore Counting on Executing Fundamentals For a Successful Season

by Ben Diamond After the cancellation of last year’s season, head coach of the North Shore baseball team Scott Lineman lost a few important players from his roster. Players like Will Scarola who now plays at Hofstra, Andrew Jarkow who pitches for SUNY Cobleskill, and Danny Pepe who pitches at Montclair. According to Lineman, these guys would have played a significant role on his team last year had the season not been cancelled. They leave a hole that Lineman hopes his players this year can fill.  “Will [Scarola] was a three year starter for us, he would have been hitting in the middle of our order. He would get 20 stolen bases a year.” Lineman said. “He would have made a huge impact on helping us score runs that’s for sure.”  “Danny [Pepe] and Andrew [Jarkow] would have been the two ...

North Shore 2020 Season Preview

(Photo Credit: Shelly Newman) by Zevan Shuster For North Shore High School baseball coach Scott Lineman, the potential of his team heading into the 2020 season is endless. And with potential, come high expectations.  “I expect to compete at a high level, and we’re going to try and win the league. We have an extremely tough league this year, where it won’t be easy to come and get the number one seed, but it’s something we’re going to be fighting for,” Scott Lineman said.  At all levels of sports, winning is a result due to a long, complex process that takes place both on and off the field. It’s a journey that encapsulates every important aspect of what it takes to build a team, and get the sum of the team, to be greater than its individual parts.  “We’ve been trying to build our team unity ...

North Shore Ready For Another County Championship Run In 2019

If you have been following Nassau County Baseball for the last 4-5 years, you know who the top teams are. Since 2015, North Shore, Wantagh and Division have each appeared in the semifinals at least twice and the county championship a combined six times. In 2018, the three teams combined for a record of 45-9. This year, all three teams will be in the same conference. Stacked? I think so. However, there is one team in particular that stands out the most in Conference A4 and that is the North Shore Vikings. With Wantagh and Division graduating a significant amount of seniors in 2018, North Shore is on the complete opposite side of the spectrum. They enter the 2019 season returning several amount of key players that led them to a 14-4 record last year. Their only playoff losses came to the bac...
