St. Joseph’s stuns Old Westbury to remain undefeated in Skyline Conference play

By Jesse Borek PATCHOGUE, NY — Staying undefeated in Skyline Conference play thus far this season, the St. Joseph’s Golden Eagles stunned the Old Westbury Panthers to sweep the doubleheader on the back of a four-run, ninth-inning comeback in the opener. After the shock of scoring four runs in their final at-bat in the nine-inning opener, the Golden Eagles would finish off the Panthers 4-1 in the backend of the cap, moving to 5-0 in Conference play. Aided by two errors, timely hitting, and a ton of wind, St. Joseph’s stormed back in the bottom of the ninth to win on senior Anthony Andreani’s walk-off base hit.   After the inning’s first error, junior James Nakashian made it hurt, bringing home two runs on a double and trimming the OW lead down to 4-3.  Another outfield error would kno...

Photo Credit: Vinny Messana The Farmingdale-St. Joseph’s rivalry has lost some luster in the past two seasons as the Golden Eagles suffered through some lean years, but they have gotten the momentum back in their direction with a DH sweep today by the scores of 5-3 and 7-3. In the first game, Ryan Aloise started for the Golden Eagles and he was terrific–he allowed one ER over seven innings of work, while yielding only six hits and two walks. He was backed by Joseph Calabrese‘s two hits and a bevy of RBI singles from the rest of the squad. The Rams actually took a 1-0 lead in the first inning when Tom Rydzewski came around to score on Anthony Alvino‘s RBI ground out. That did not last long, as the Golden Eagles responded with a three-spot in the second thanks to RBI sin...

Four crooked numbers and some gutsy pitching from ace Ryan Aloise was the recipe to get back in the ‘W’ column. “I think the batters were patient,” said second year Head Coach Richard Garrett. “They worked the counts, but at the same time, if they saw it, they jumped on it early. I think that was it,” he added. The offense smacked 17 hits–Anthony Bonilla, Nick Girardi and Brendan Sullivan had three each, James Nakashian, Dennis McAllister, Anthony Andreani each had two. Nakashian scored four runs and Joseph Calabrese drove in four. Photo Credit: Vinny ...
