Stony Brook Lowers Magic Number to 2

Photo Credit: Vinny Messana Stony Brook swept a DH by the scores of 5-3 and 9-3 and have lowered their magic number to clinch the America East to 2. They lead UMBC by 3.5 games in the standings so any combination of Sea Wolve victories or UMBC losses that add to two will result in Stony Brook getting the No. 1 seed in the conference tournament. There are four more regular season games to go. In the first game of the DH, Stony Brook was behind 3-2 after three innings, but tied it up in the fourth when Andruw Gazzolla started the inning off with a triple and he scored on Bobby Honeyman‘s sac fly. Bobby Honeyman Collects Five Hits, Stony Brook Sweeps Albany

Photo Credit: Vinny Messana Freshman Bobby Honeyman smacked a career-high five hits as Stony Brook easily defeated Albany 12-2 to finish the sweep and improve their record to 23-12.  The Sea Wolves scored three in the first, three again in the third and two in the eighth and compiled 18 hits as a team. Honeyman scored three runs to go along with his five hits. Toby Handley also had four hits, drove in two and scored twice. Robert Chavarria, Casey Baker and Andruw Gazzolla each had two hits. Baker drove in three, Gazzolla brought in a pair. Ryley MacEachern, normally a reliever, started and pitched 3.1 innings.   Photo Credit: Vinny Messana This weekend the Stony Brook Seawolves stayed hot and won two of three at Georgetown to improve to 19-12 on the season. By winning the first two games of the series they had extended their winning streak to nine-straight games but it was thwarted on Sunday with a loss.In Game One, Tyler Honahan continued his strong season by pitching six innings, allowing one ER, allowing four hits, two walks while striking out five. They won the first game 2-1 on a walk-off two-run single by Robert Chavarria which scored Cole Peragine and pinch runner Billy McLean.Daniel Zamora threw a seven inning complete game. He allowed only one run, struck out nine, walked two and allowed four hits. It was his third win of the season. The offense was stagnant for six innings, but they came through when it mattered most.
