The Fordham Rams come into 2018 reloaded and ready to build off the ups-and-downs of a 27-24 campaign in 2017. The Rams started the season hot, climbing to as high as first place in the ultra-competitive Atlantic-10 Conference. However, a nine-game slide between April 18–30 set the team back and caused them to miss the playoffs all together. “Sometimes when a few guys start slumping everybody starts slumping,” head coach Kevin Leighton said. “A big part of that losing streak was we just couldn’t score runs. We talk about it with our guys constantly – you can’t get too high on the good times or too low on the bad.” Scoring runs will come at a premium this year for a Fordham team that lost stud seniors Mark Donadio and Luke Stampfl. by Mike Guido After a number of games being cancelled due to weather, it was a tough day for Long Island baseball.  Though Long Island went 1-5 on the day, there were some bright spots in particular for the teams competing yesterday. We are still early in and growth is visible with these ball clubs. Division I: Fordham Splits With Canisius The Rams snapped a six-game losing streak on a walkoff single by Brian Goulard to score Reiss Knehr. It was a wild game, with the Rams battling back to tie the game three times when trailing including erasing a 4-1 deficit in the bottom of the sixth inning and a 5-4 deficit in the bottom of the eighth. Nassau Defeats Suffolk 3-1 in Grand Slam Challenge

The pitchers brought their ‘A’ game but it was Nassau who prevailed with a 3-1 win. The big blow came on a two-run single in the bottom of the 6th off the bat of Billy Bianco of North Shore–who was named the game’s Most Valuable Player. The inning began with Jim Mendyk getting drilled on an 87 MPH fastball by Dom Savino of Smithtown East. The following batter, Beau O’Connell, reached on an infield single back to Savino, who was unable to record the out.
