The Panthers used a six-run second inning to power past the Knights, who mounted a rally in the late innings to make things interesting, but Adelphi held on for a 9-5 win. Evan Christopher and Stevie Proko was the pitching matchup and the hurlers exchanged scoreless first innings before the Panthers’ bats woke up in the second inning. Division-I: St. John’s split a DH with Butler losing the first game, 4-1, but winning the second game, 9-4. In the win, the Johnnies trailed 2-0 entering the fourth inning, but Colin Wetterau tied it up with a two-run single and they took the lead on a two-run single by Chris Conniff. Marty Higgins‘ RBI single in the seventh was their 5th run and proved to be the winning run. Tim Cunningham earned the win in relief for the Johnnies. Joe Joe Rodriguez and Ethan Routzahn combined to lock down the final 2.1 IP. Brian Morrell led the offense with three hits. Division-I: St. John‘s swept Butler by the scores of 9-0 and 4-0. In Game 1, Nick Mondak was lights-out. He struck out 10 over 6.0 shutout innings, allowing just three hits and one free pass. He earned his fourth win of the season. Josh Lajoie closed it out with a scoreless seventh with two punch outs. St. John’s outhit Butler, 13-3. They scored two runs in the first inning on an RBI double by Ryan Hogan and an RBI ground out by Nick Cirelli. Carson Bartels led the offense with three hits and 4 RBI. Division-I St. John’s lost to UCONN, 4-3, to open up their weekend series. They led 3-1 in the 7th, but the Huskies scored on a squeeze to cut the deficit to two and then in the 8th, a two-run go-ahead double by Kyler Fedko (3-for-5), gave them the lead. Carson Bartels drew a walk in the 9th but they were unable to get him around to score. Austin Peterson earned his sixth win of the season. Joe Joe Rodriguez was tagged with the loss. It was a relatively quiet day of action on Friday, which sets the stage for a wild Saturday as every team except for Molloy (program on pause) will be playing on Saturday including a great rivalry game between Farmingdale and St. Joseph’s. Here’s how it went down yesterday: Division-I: Hofstra dropped the opener of their weekend series, 10-9, against Delaware to fall to 9-10 on the season but 0-4 in CAA play. The game was tied 7-7 in extra innings, and the Pride took a 9-7 on a passed ball that scored Brian Goulard and a wild pitch that scored Santino Rosso. Division-I Fordham swept St. Bonaventure by the scores of 3-0 and 7-5. In Game 1, MLB Draft prospect Matt Mikulski was dominant once again. He struck out 16 in a one-hit shutout, walking just two batters. The game was scoreless into the sixth inning when Zach Selinger got the Rams on the board with an RBI single that scored Jason Coules. They added an insurance run on a two-run single by Nick Labella. Game 2 featured way more action. Division-I Stony Brook ran their win streak to 10 games – all in conference play – so they are 10-0 in America East conference games – and 14-7 overall after sweeping UMASS-Lowell in a double header yesterday. In Game 1, UMASS took an early 2-0 lead against Sam Turcotte on a sac fly by Vinnie Martin and a an RBI single by Gerry Siracusa. As is usually the case, Turcotte buckled down and was lights-out the rest of the way while the Seawolves chipped away. Brett Paulsen’s sac fly got them on the board in the second inning and Shane Paradine‘s solo shot tied it up in the fourth inning. Molloy Stays Hot, Defeats Queens For Sixth Consecutive Win

The Molloy Lions may have limped out of the gate but they have turned their season around recently. They ran their win streak to six after a 10-8 victory over Queens yesterday afternoon to complete a three-game sweep. They took an early 2-0 lead in the first inning on an RBI triple by Peter Theodorellis – who entered the game with a robust .400 AVG – and an RBI double by Sean Hogan – who was just behind at .375 AVG. Corey Tingo got the Knights on the board with an RBI double to score Brad Sakellarides in the second. Let’s get to it: Division-I: 1.St. John’s (Record: 3-3. Trending UP) 2. Stony Brook (Record: 1-6, Trending Neutral) 3. Hofstra (Record: 1-6, Trending Down) 4. Fordham (Record: 1-6, Trending Down) 5. LIU (Record: 1-3, Trending Neutral) Breaking it down: St. John’s won two of three from Cal, no small task for a northeast team to travel cross-country and win a series on the West Coast in February. That was definitely the most positive storyline from this past weekend for the Division-I schools. Also, Stony Brook traveled to ACC Country and lost three games by a total of five runs.
