by Chris Sacchi John Givargidze‘s Plainview JFK baseball team, just like many across the island, is heading into the 2021 season with new challenges. Yet, while Plainview has the talent to overcome, they will have to adapt to a couple of unique circumstances. First, during preseason preparation, Givardgize says his team had seven practice/workout sessions cancelled due to COVID-19 issues. “The offseason has been kind of weird,”Givardgize said. “A lot of guesswork on a lot of it.” Yet, coach is choosing to look on the bright (and sunny) side. “I’m trying to see a bright spot in all this. Usually our preseason stuff is done in January, February, in the gym,” coach said. “So we’ve been lucky enough to be able to get outside, on the baseball field, and do a lot of our workout...
Mark Faello on his no-hitter (6-innings) against Herricks pic.twitter.com/x9o8kGK80X — Axcess Baseball LI (@axcessbaseball) March 28, 2018 (Editor’s Note: This article was originally posted on March 28th, 2018.) It wasn’t EXACTLY the real deal, but it was close enough. Reigning Diamond Award winner Mark Faello fired a six inning no-hitter in Plainview JFK‘s 10-0 mercy-rule victory over Herricks on Tuesday afternoon. He struck out 12 batters and walked three. Last season, he no-hit the same team while compiling 19 strikeouts. The game was much closer than the score would indicate, actually, for much of the game. Faello smacked a two-run HR over the center field fence in the 1st inning to give himself an early 2-0 lead. The score would stay that way and Herricks was able to make Faello...
FINAL: Plainview 3 Port Washington 0 Ziv Gar: CG, 2H, 5K Tyler Galleti: 3-Run HR pic.twitter.com/LDlaejQFkp — Axcess Baseball LI (@axcessbaseball) April 8, 2019 On a beautiful Monday afternoon, Plainview made quick work of Port Washington as they triumphed to a 3-0 victory. In total, this game lasted just 90 minutes. From the very first pitch of the game, it was evident this was going to be a pitcher’s duel. Ziv Gar took the mound for Plainview in the season opener and Derek Livingston got the start for Port Washington. Through the first three innings, both pitchers dominated their first time through the lineup. There were zeroes across the board in the runs and hits columns heading into the fourth. With runners on first and second with one out, Tyler Galletti stepped up to the plate...
With just a week until the official opening day, all teams will have a chance to compete in non-league action within the next few days. This year will be an interesting year in Class AA, as there are only 12 teams. Massapequa comes into the season looking to defend their back-to-back county championships, but will have their hands full in a tough conference AA1. With that being said, here are the top eight teams in Class AA. 8. Freeport After a 5-2 victory over Bellmore JFK in non-league action to begin their season, Freeport seems to be on the right track as far as competing. Not only can everyone in their lineup work the count, but they can hit to all sides of the field. On the mound, Ronny Vicente will anchor the rotation. Viandy Abreu, Roberto Lizardo and Nelson Lozano will lead their ...
Over the last two years, it’s safe to say Plainview has been one of the powerhouses in Class AA. In 2017, the Hawks fell to Massapequa in the county championship and in 2018, they lost to Massapequa in the seminfinals, who went on to win the state championship. Three years ago, the Hawks knew they had a strong core of sophomores that had potential to be great. They capitalized on that window. This core included 2017 Diamond Award-winner Mark Faello (Hofstra), Tyler Marinaccio (Maine), Ryan Saltzman (Mercy) and Michael Cole (Franklin & Marshall). Fast forward to 2018 and they carried Plainview deep into May two seasons in a row. Losing a core of players with their level of talent is never an easy thing to do, but it certainty won’t be the first time they’ve had to deal...
Tyler Marinaccio sends Plainview to the semifinals!!!!! FINAL: Plainview 3 Port Washington 2 WP – Justin Kim Tyler Marinaccio: Walkoff RBI pic.twitter.com/Sc6syB0Vk6 — Axcess Baseball LI (@axcessbaseball) May 21, 2018 From first pitch of this ballgame until the final pitch, this game had more roller coasters than Six Flags. In perhaps the most exciting game this season, Plainview JFK squeaked past Port Washington by a score of 3-2 in twelve innings. As a result, they will be moving on to the Class AA semifinals. If you were to ask any player on either team, they will say this was the longest 24 hours of their lives. The first pitch of the do-or-die game three was at 5PM on Sunday evening. The final pitch of the game came a little after 5PM on Monday evening. On Sunday evening, this w...
