Following Monday’s instant classic, the two teams collided once more for Game 2, this time at Oceanside High School with even higher stakes.  For Oceanside, the objective was clear-cut: win, and you f...

That doesn’t mean they can’t enjoy some victories along the way – as they defeated a tough Oceanside team, 4-1, with their ace Mike D’Ambrosio on the hill. The Hofstra-commit, who was named First Team Preseason All-Long Island came out of the gate firing, striking out three hitters in the first two innings that he breezed through. Motivated by Last Year’s County Final, Plainview-JFK Hungry to Take Final Step

by Max Edelman Special thanks for Metamorphosis Landscape Design for sponsoring this year’s season preview series. But head coach John Givargidze’s team, they are facing that challenge head-on. Givargidze, who is entering his 11th season as the head coach of the Plainview-Old Bethpage JFK Hawks, looks to rebound after a strong season that didn’t end the way anyone imagined. “We finished 20-8. We lost in the county finals on a walk-off grand slam with two outs. So we really couldn’t have gotten any closer to our go...

Q & A With Jordan Lambert

Jordan Lambert was named the Player of the Week for the Blue Chip Collegiate League. The slugger batted .667 for the week and on the season, he now owns and incredible slash line of .560/.645/.840. He is leading the B1 Seminoles, coached by Jimmy Bailin, in virtually every offensive category. He had three doubles, two triples, 8 RBIs, 10 runs scored, 11-for-11 in stolen bases and even has fired three shutout innings on the mound! The Plainview JFK grad is currently at Farmingdale State College, where he played in all 35 games for the Rams. He batted .313 with a .357 OBP and was second on the team with 24 RBIs. I had a chance to speak with him and here’s what he had to say… Who are some people that have had a positive influence on your career? My family, friends and all the coac...

ERIK PAULSEN JR WALK-OFF GRAND SLAM TO WIN IT FOR MASSAPEQUA!! ARE YOU KIDDING?! pic.twitter.com/XxVwkXrBMY — Axcess Baseball LI (@axcessbaseball) May 31, 2023 Bases loaded. Two outs. Bottom of the seventh inning in Game 3 of the Nassau County Class AA Finals. Enter Erik Paulsen Jr. It was a story book finish for the Stony Brook-bound Paulsen who launched a dramatic, incredible walk-off grand slam as No. 1 Massapequa stunned No. 2 Plainview JFK to win 8-6 and capture their record sixth consecutive Nassau Class AA Title. While it’s never smart to count out the Chiefs, their backs were firmly against the wall after 3 innings – when they trailed 6-1. Massapequa had jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first when, who else, Erik Paulsen ripped a one-out double to the right...

The Hawks, who graduated one of their best players in program history last season in Dylan Banner, were able to rely behind last year’s postseason exit and exercise those playoff demons against their crosstown rivals. The teams split the first two games of the series with the road teams winning each game. Plainview made sure to take some of the anxiety out of the home crowd as they drew back-to-back walks to start the g...

But baseball is a funny game that doesn’t make sense sometimes. After notching his 12th strikeout of the game, Mike D’Ambrosio hit Farmingdale’s No. 9 hitter, Behar, to bring the top of the order. JoJo Burriesci ripped a single to put runners in scoring position and No. 2 hitter, Michael Craig, followed with an RBI double into the right center fi...

Plainview JFK Looking to Fill Shoes of Diamond Award Winner

by Brian Honka Dylan Banner (Plainview JFK 2022) captured the Axcess Man of the Year last night at our Awards Banquet ! @POBHAWKSbasebll @LITitanbaseball pic.twitter.com/OLKpqZqKB9 — Axcess Baseball LI (@axcessbaseball) November 6, 2022 Plainview JFK had a regular season to remember as they won Nassau AA-2 with a 14-1 record – cruising through their competition. In the postseason, however, they lost in the semifinals to a talented Farmingdale team.  The team will be looking to replace Dylan Banner, now playing at Albany, who was a Diamond Award winner, and Axcess Man of the Year. He had a .475 AVG, 7 HR, and 34 RBI at the plate while also being dominant on the mound posting a 7-0 record with a 0.73 ERA striking out 101 batters while only walking 6 over 47.2 innings pitched.  The team...

Q & A With Doug Robins Diamond Award Winner Dylan Banner

Dylan Banner had a strong case to be made as not only the best pitcher but also the best hitter in Nassau County in 2022. He’ll have to settle (kidding) for the Doug Robins Diamond Award given to the top pitcher in the county. It was a remarkable season for the Albany-commit as he led the Hawks to one of the best seasons in program history. On the bump, he notched an unblemished record of 7-0 with a 0.73 ERA and 101 strikeouts over 47.2 IP. He fired 2 no-hitters and was downright untouchable in just about every outing. He gave up four infield hits during league play and the lone long ball he gave up was to Jack Coogan in a non-league game in his first outing of the season. Four years ago, we featured him as part of the “Up Next” series, when he was coming off a huge seaso...

After losing in County Finals, Plainview Poised to Take Next Step

By Michael Malaszczyk Dylan Banner just crushed a go-ahead, 2-R HR in the eighth to give Plainview JFK a 6-4 lead over Syosset pic.twitter.com/xNZOHPnXmm — Axcess Baseball LI (@axcessbaseball) June 13, 2021 Coach John Givargidze of Plainview is gearing up for another playoff run in 2022. Plainview had a terrific season in 2021. They finished with a 14-7 overall record, and went as far as the county finals; they ended up losing the county finals to a great team in Massapequa. Givargidze had nothing but praise for how his team performed in an interview with Axcess Baseball.  “I am so proud of the way the boys came into the season last year with focus and a little chip on their shoulders,” said Givargidze. “It was a great group of kids who had fun together and most importantly, played for eac...

Dylan Banner’s Two-Run Blast Keeps Plainview JFK Alive For Another Day

Never let the best player beat you. That’s one of the mantras of high school baseball. For 7 innings, Syosset lived by that code. They walked Plainview JFK’s most dangerous hitter, Dylan Banner, in all four at bats. In his fifth at bat, though, they opted to pitch to him and, boy, did he take advantage. The junior smashed a go-ahead, two-run HR easily over 400 feet to left field to give the Hawks a 6-4 lead in the top of the eighth. They would hold on by the skin of their teeth, 6-5, to force a do-or-die Game 3 today at Plainview. There was many twists-and-turns to this game. The stands were packed and emotions were spilling over as this game crossed the three-hour threshold. And there’s no commercial breaks – that’s just how much each team was working the opp...
