The Falcons came storming back and scored 12 unanswered runs to pull off a big victory in Stan Musial League action. Tonight, they continued that onslaught of runs with a 13-1 victory in a game that ended after 5 innings due to the run rule. Starting pitcher Christian Falcaro set the tone by striking out the first six batters of the game, and his offense backed him with a flurry of runs early on. Three walks and a hit by pitch in the first inning, followed by a wild pitch that scored two runs handed them two gift runs and Rob Moir drove an RBI single to...

Nassau County Class A Power Rankings (6th Edition)

As usual, Class A is a power struggle at the top. Despite the two-time reigning champ Wantagh Warriors playing well, they will have plenty of competition from the other powerhouses as well as some upstart teams.  Time will only tell as we head down the stretch of the final two weeks of the season. Last week featured Wantagh beating Plainedge two games out of three to take the conference lead, along with Division beating Valley Stream North to take capture first place as well. The last two weeks of the regular season will feature nothing but competitive baseball, so expect to see some upsets as the regular season winds down. With that being said, here are the teams that stood out this past week in class A, followed by the top ten teams in the county. TRENDING UP: North Shore (9-3) After win...

Final: Wantagh 4, Plainedge 1 WP: Anthony Fontana S: Mason McLane pic.twitter.com/pyGUi3N7Of — Axcess Baseball LI (@axcessbaseball) April 23, 2018 Anthony Fontana has made a habit of coming up big in his career. Whether it be at the plate in the Long Island Championship against the Paul Gibson Award winning RHP Sam Kessler or last season on the mound in an emergency start against Carl Yastrzemski Award Winning RHP Brian Morrell, the southpaw is always calm and in control on the mound. And he always seems to win. He performed like a seasoned veteran today, pitching out of a couple of jams to lead Wantagh to a 4-1 victory over a dangerous Plainedge team that entered with a record of 9-2-1. “We practice every single day and we really work hard for these big games and I think we exe...

TRENDING UP: Division (2-1) In every sport, there’s always specific organizations that always find a way to succeed no matter how talented their team is. Q & A With Nicholas DeMicco

Plainedge was one of the hottest teams on Long Island entering the postseason in 2017. They were riding a 13-game win streak in large part to the powerful bat of Nicholas DeMicco. He hit three of his five HRs on the season during a two-game stretch in victories over Mineola and Division. On Friday, he committed to Molloy College, the latest in a series of recent signings that promises to benefit the Lions future. DeMicco spoke with Vinny Messana, and here’s what he had to say… First off, congrats on the commitment. Talk a little bit about your experience with the recruiting process. The recruitment process was a lot more stressful than I thought it would be, honestly. Trying to read the coaches and trying to tell what they wanted for their program was challenging. I also had fu...

Joe Cottone’s RBI Single Propels Plainedge to Wild Comeback 7-6 Victory

Rob Pinto got really nervous when the ball was in the air, as did the rest of the home crowd. Cleanup hitter, Mark Rossini was already 3-for-3 on the afternoon and the fans had already endured the emotional rollercoaster of the past eight-and-a-half innings. The ball was caught just shy of the fence and he retired the final two batters including a strikeout of Pete Schimmel to put an end to a thrilling 7-6 comeback victory for Plainedge over Bethpage. Final: Plainedge 7, Bethpage 6 WP: Rob Pinto pic.twitter.com/fnXpbNoDR1 — aXcess Baseball (@axcessbaseball) May 4, 2017 “I shook his hand when he was running in and said ‘good hit, you scared the hell outta me,” he added.   Pinto fired two shutout innings of relief to record the victory in a nine-inning game on&nbs...
