Pitch Count Rule Robs Angus McCloskey of Chance For No-Hitter

Thus far, 2017 has been quite a year for no-hitters. There was almost another member of the group yesterday, but due to the newly implemented pitch-count rule, that opportunity was thwarted from Farmingdale RHP Angus McCloskey. Farmingdale defeated Syosset by the score of 8-2. McCloskey had his ‘A’ game and struck out 13 through the first 6.2 IP, while holding the opposition hitless. McCloskey stated that he was aware of it prior. “I knew that last batter I faced was my last,” said McCloskey. I struck out the first two in the inning and had the last hitter 0-2 and ended up walking him because the umpire squeezed me a bit, but if the pitch count wasn’t an issue, they weren’t touching my fastball.
