Josh Knoth Commits to Ole Miss

Josh Knoth (Pat-Med 2023) has made a significant jump this offseason. He was highlighted as part of our “Up Next” Series pic.twitter.com/vz4xFAiGWk — Axcess Baseball LI (@axcessbaseball) February 15, 2021 If you’ve been following Long Island baseball over the past couple years, you are certainly familiar with Pat-Med RHP Josh Knoth. The flamethrowing ace has continued to dominant hitters and light up the radar gun since se featured him as part of the “Up Next” series a couple years ago. All his did in 2021 was nearly fire a no-hitter in the playoffs on the road against Ward Melville (he allowed a single with 2 outs in the 7th). He followed that up by winning the coveted Carl Yastrzemski Award in 2022 and has since gone on to receive national attention after ex...

Kaitlyn Klepper Fires Complete Game Shutout to Send 12U Junior Ducks to Championship of East Coast Labor Day Bash

Kaitlyn Klepper on her outstanding CG shutout in a 1-0 victory to send the Junior Ducks to the championship of the East Coast Labor Day Bash pic.twitter.com/ebcMnRuv75 — Axcess Baseball LI (@axcessbaseball) September 2, 2018 With the bases loaded and only one out in the second inning, it was a rocky situation for any young pitcher. Fortunately for the Junior Ducks, their pitcher, 12-year-old Kaitlyn Klepper was the most prepared player on the field. The young hurler induced a come backer to the mound, she fielded the ball, composed herself and fired a strike to the catcher, who fired it to first to complete the inning-ending 1-2-3 double play and escape the inning unscathed. She let out a big fist pump and headed back to the dugout. That was the closest that the opposition came to getting ...

Final: Pat-Med 2, Moriches Bay 1 WP: Josh Knoth (CG, 10 Ks) Pat-Med Raiders improve to 10-0 pic.twitter.com/pHj0mSnAKc — Axcess Baseball LI (@axcessbaseball) July 6, 2018 The Pat-Med Raiders improved to 10-0 with their win Thursday night behind pitcher Josh Knoth’s dominant performance. Knoth threw a complete game, allowed one run, and struck out ten in the Raiders 2-1 victory over the Moriches Bay Red Devils. The Raiders struck early taking a 1-0 lead in the top of the first. Leadoff hitter Robbie Melo started the game by drawing a walk. Melo stole second base and advanced to third on an errant throw by the Devils catcher. Melo then scored on a fielder’s choice hit by CJ Pisano. Later, in the top of the fourth inning the Devils threatened to tie the game. Devils pitcher Derek Masano hit a...

Rich Ciufo’s Road To Recovery

by P.J. Potter It’s Opening Night at Historic Hicks Field in Edenton, North Carolina. The fans are still filing into the grandstands as the Steamers are coming up to bat for the first time of the Coastal Plain League season. While people were still getting settled, Rich Ciufo was already locked in. On his very first swing, everyone in the ballpark stopped what they were doing. They looked up as Ciufo crushed the ball over the double deck of advertisement signs in left field, and he was met by a roaring ovation while rounding the bases. And just like that, crossing home plate with a huge smile, Ciufo became a star in the CPL. “It was a great way to open the summer. It felt like a lot of hard work paid off,” Ciufo said, a Medford, NY native attending Brown University. Jumping into the summer...

Ospreys Pick Up First Win of 2018 on the Road Against Riverhead

North Fork defeats Riverhead, 3-2, with JC Santini notching the go-ahead hit. He’s our @DigmiNation Player of the Game pic.twitter.com/V3mn546GYd — Axcess Baseball LI (@axcessbaseball) June 11, 2018 The first seven games of the North Fork Osprey’s season did not go exactly as planned. In fact, things went nearly as poorly as possible. Bill Ianniciello‘s squad opened up the summer with a 0-6-1 record, leaving them in last place in the league. Luckily for the Ospreys, it’s a long summer and thanks to the heroics of JC Santini, the comeback game starts now. The California-native supplied the go-ahead hit in the top of the eighth to give North Fork (1-6-1) a 3-2 victory over the Riverhead Tomcats (3-2-1). It was a pitcher’s duel early at Veterans Memorial Park. Austin Smith got the...

Opening Day Recap

Today was a day players have had circled on their calendar for months. I know I was the type to circle March 30 once the schedule was announced during my playing days. After seeing the level of excitement on the player’s faces and the huge turnout, I think there’s plenty more people that share that passion for the game as me. It was a unique Opening Day in that so many fields were unplayable that Moriches Complex featured four games. It was a huge benefit for me considering two of Long Island’s top arms in Bobby Vath and Roman Dorosh were both on the mound at the same time. Both were among my top candidates for the Paul Gibson Award and they both were lights-out in their first outing. It made for must-see action. I’ll give you my takeaways from those two games as we...

How Marcus Stroman Went From League I MVP to World Baseball Classic MVP

(Editor’s Note: This piece was originally published on March 22, 2017 after Team USA captured the Gold Medal in the World Baseball Classic) Having coached him for five years on the diamond and one year on the gridiron, not many people know Marcus Stroman–who was just named Most Valuable Player of the 2017 World Baseball Classic–better than Patchogue-Medford HS Head Coach Anthony Frascogna. Prior to gaining national acclaim for taking a no-hitter into the seventh inning and leading Team USA to their first WBC championship, he was leading Pat-Med to league titles. But before that, he was the little guy that was turning everyone’s head no matter which sport he played. “I knew Marcus from when he was in elementary school because I knew Earl (his father), and I would see him on the fields...
