I was piling the zone, attacking batters and we got the win.” Carleo finished the day with tallying up 12 strikeouts and five walks in his no-hitting performance. “I wanted to command my fastball,” Carleo said. “Throughout the season my fastball has been my best pitch by fa...
by Aaron Diaz Special thanks to Metamorphosis Landscape Design for sponsoring this year’s season preview series. Oyster Bay finished 2023 with a record of 11-6 record and a first round bye. Their season ended in the County Semifinals against their league rival Wheatley in extra innings, which was the only team they did not sweep during the season. “We had a pretty good season,” said Oyster Bay head coach Jeff Schiereck. “The only games we lost were to Wheatley. We had a bye in the first round and faced Wheatley in the second and lost. It was disappointing but we’re back and ready for new things.” The Baymen did not have a big graduating class in 2023 but losing All-County player Jonathan Goldschmidt in the infield will play a part in how Schiereck positions his team in the field. “H...

Two 6-0 Nassau Class B teams went head-to-head on Monday afternoon with the reigning champs, Wheatley, coming away with a 3-2 victory in a very well-played game behind Kyle Rosenberg‘s 10 strikeout, 6.1 IP outing and some clutch-hitting by a player in his first varsity game. Rosenberg has been Wheatley’s ace for the past 1+ seasons but he was facing a tough opponent, New Haven-commit Michael Gatti, who entered the game with a 2-0 record, 0.00 ERA and 23 strikeouts over 10 innings. The Wildcats of Wheatley got out to a quick 1-0 lead thanks to some good fortune. Af...

Oyster Bay finished the regular season in 2021 with a 5-11 record in a combined league composed of A and B schools. Coach Shiereck said 6 of their losses were against the A schools who they do not usually go up against, though they were losses, he said they were in every game and put up a good fight against the competition. Despite their record, Oyster Bay went on a terrific run in the post season all the way to the County Finals. They were ultimately defeated in the finals by Wheatley on a walk-off s...
