Coach Rob Burger is going to the Suffolk AA Finals in his first year at the helm for Connetquot pic.twitter.com/0IhOa1ufp0 — Axcess Baseball LI (@axcessbaseball) May 30, 2019 There are a lot of similarities between 2017 Commack and this year’s Connetquot team from the insane amount of talent right down to having a first-year Head Coach. Just as those Cougars did two years ago, the T-Birds are headed to the Suffolk AA Finals, one year after losing in the Final 4 on their home field to Eastport-South Manor. This year’s team was not going to be denied. They defeated No. 7 Longwood, 2-0, in Game 3 of the semifinals. Coach Burger was undecided about who to send to the mound following yesterday’s loss. “We were in the office just sitting around for about 45 minutes and Matty Brown came over to u...
The Chaminade Flyers are the 2019 NSCHSAA Champions with a 3-1 victory over St. Anthony’s pic.twitter.com/czHcPb827e — Axcess Baseball LI (@axcessbaseball) May 27, 2019 As soon as tryouts started, Logan Koester knew this team would be special. Scratch that, since the end of last season he knew. The George Washington-commit that mowed through the entire Catholic League, put an exclamation point on an outstanding season with 7.2 innings in the Championship Game against St. Anthony’s which enabled the Flyers to capture their 17th NSCHSAA Title and first since 2015. Early on, it appeared that this game would have a different outcome, though. In the bottom of the fourth inning, Marco Ali started the inning off with a double to left field. After a lineout to Sawyer Duarte for the first out...
FINAL: Clarke 5 MacArthur 0 Clarke is headed to the Class A County Championship! pic.twitter.com/ae4kiA8fDu — Axcess Baseball LI (@axcessbaseball) May 27, 2019 For the first time since 2013, Clarke is going back to the County Championship. On Memorial Day afternoon, they triumphed to a 5-0 victory over MacArthur in the do-or-die game three. After tossing 60 pitches on Saturday, Brendan Turton was ready to take the hill on just one day of rest. The ace who’s been phenomenal all season, tossed a complete game shutout allowing six hits. “I came out on one day of rest I was feeling good I only threw 60 pitches last time I was feeling good today. We’re psyched to be going to counties it’s been our goal since the beginning of the season and we can’t wait to get there, we played a good game,” sai...
The Eagles win 4-3, on a walkoff home run by Joe Grillo. pic.twitter.com/qJ9WHNLQ3c — Axcess Baseball LI (@axcessbaseball) May 26, 2018 With one swing of the bat, Joe Grillo sent Rocky Point to the Suffolk Class A Finals to face Shoreham-Wading River in a rematch of 2016 semifinals. Grillo is no stranger to big games. He’s been a key cog for the Eagles since he debuted on varsity. Saturday, he was in the same spot. A Rocky Point win would send them to the county championship, but a loss would mean elimination. Grillo went five innings allowing three runs on four hits and four walks, to go with six strikeouts, effectively keeping his team in the game. The first two innings were relatively quiet, with neither team able to muster up much offense. Sayville looked to strike in the third innin...
Aidan Larkin broke the game open with a two-run single in Chaminade’s 6-4 victory over St. Anthony’s. He’s our @BsbLifestyle101 Player of the Game pic.twitter.com/5U9A8TTeMG — Axcess Baseball LI (@axcessbaseball) May 26, 2019 No. 1 seed Chaminade held off a seventh inning rally by No. 5 St. Anthony’s to win 6-4 and put themselves one win away from capturing the 2019 NSCHSAA Championship. Having not played since Wednesday, the Flyers were tasked with holding down a red-hot Friars offense that put up 20 runs in the previous 2 games. The Friars took an early 2-0 lead on an RBI single by Jack Calla and an RBI double by Cameron Leary in the bottom of the second inning, but senior RHP Bobby Dahl settled in after that. The Flyers offense answered right back in the bottom of the ...
The NYIT Bears defeated reigning East Region Champion Southern New Hampshire, 6-3, to advance to the program’s first Division-II College World Series next week in Cary, NY. On May 10, the Bears were shutout, 4-0, by the University of Bridgeport to get eliminated from the ECC Tournament. Now, 15 days later, those Bears are hoisting the trophy that proves they are one of the top-8 teams in the nation. This game did not feature the high drama of Friday night, as E.J. Cumbo got the Bears’ offense going with a three-run shot to open up a 3-0 lead. It was Cumbo’s seventh HR of the season and his 44th RBI of the season. His team totals are unbelievable (.453 AVG, .525 OBP/..692 SLG, 7 HR, 44 RBI, 43 R, 19 BB, 19 K, 22-25 SB). He’s been able to do that in only 159 at bats, which is 50 fewer than S...
Eastport-South Manor is headed to the Suffolk Class AA Finals with a 3-2 victory ! pic.twitter.com/qfosu0J54T — Axcess Baseball LI (@axcessbaseball) May 25, 2018 Six years ago it was on this same field that the Eastport-South Manor Sharks had a chance to win a county championship against Connetquot. They had better fortunes this time around as they are now one step closer to accomplishing that feat. They held off Connetquot’s late rally to win 3-2 and they have a date with West Islip on Sunday. Starting pitcher Alex Doskoez was efficient and used his defense all game, striking out five batters in a complete game victory. He proved his mettle on a number of occasions, stranding runners in scoring position in the first, fifth and sixth innings and seventh innings; exemplifying the classic ‘b...
Division is headed back to the County Championship for the second year in a row! FINAL: Division 5 Bethpage 1 (F/14) pic.twitter.com/1DZ0DqayCK — Axcess Baseball LI (@axcessbaseball) May 25, 2019 It took 14 innings and 3.5 hours, but the Division Blue Dragons are headed back to the County Championship. In the longest postseason game of 2019, they came out on top over Bethpage by a score of 5-1. Throughout this ballgame, it was truly a “game of inches.” In the bottom of the 7th inning, Bethpage trailed by one run. This was where the fun began. Bethpage tied the game at 1-1, with the game winning run on 3rd with one out. On an infield ground ball. Ryan Spreckles slapped down the tag on what would’ve been the winning run at home, keeping the game tied. This forced endless extra innings. To be...
Matt Franco hit a go-ahead 3-R Home Run to send Ward Melville into the semifinals with an 8-6 victory over Commack. Anthony Pascale hit a grand slam to open up a 5-0 lead early in the game @MuddyLocker1 pic.twitter.com/1RQnKsLwsf — Axcess Baseball LI (@axcessbaseball) May 25, 2019 It’s tough to have a more competitive, intense baseball game between two Suffolk County powerhouses than the one we just saw at Ward Melville to send the Patriots into the Class AA semifinals next week. Trailing 6-5 in the bottom of the sixth, right fielder Matt Franco crushed a game-winning three-run home run to left center field to give Ward Melville an 8-6 lead, one that they would not relinquish. The game was the definition of back-and-forth as the Patriots jumped out to an early 1-0 lead on a solo home run b...
Bases clearing triple Cameron Dunn and St. Anthony’s has a 4-0 lead in the first inning pic.twitter.com/EYUltOOBk4 — Axcess Baseball LI (@axcessbaseball) May 22, 2019 There’s nothing quite as anxiety-inducing like elimination playoff baseball, but those tensions are certainly eased by 17-run outputs. For the third straight game, St. Anthony’s was able to stave off elimination and win to keep their 2019 season alive following last week’s first round loss to Kellenberg. Tonight they were able to get retribution with a 17-7 win over the Firebirds to continue to advance in the losers’ bracket. They will face a very difficult No. 2 seed St. John the Baptist on Thursday night in West Islip. Tonight they got to a huge start against Saint Anselm-commit Frank Roder. They took advantage of wal...

Jack Kelly fired 6+ innings and was backed by a huge offensive day led by Sal Leto who drove in two runs in the fourth inning and another two in the sixth inning for Lindenhurst that opened up a big lead. “This team really has come together since the beginning of the season,” said Leto. “We start...
