It was a comeback for the ages on Saturday afternoon at Mitchel Field in the 11u division of the ‘Beat the Heat‘ tournament. This was a tale of two games. There was the first half of the game that was all Team Beast, and the second half that was all Oil City Bandits, as OCB came away with the incredible 14-13 victory – in a game that was only four innings due to the time limit. In the top of the first, the Bandits jumped out to an early 1-0 lead when Michael Amato got things going with a walk, stolen base and then came around to score on an RBI single by Aiden Perry to left field. This ballgame was far from over at this point – in fact it was just the appetizer. Beast Black responded with three runs in the home half of the first. Anthony Kotarski singled and scored ...

It was all Patriots early, as they jumped out to an early 4-0 lead against the Bandits in the top of the third inning. Their rally got started on a leadoff walk to Ryan Byrne. After an error and a hit by pitch, he scored on an RBI single to left field by Daniel Cornish. They added their second run on an RBI ground out by Ethan Honan. Anthony Boris followed with a routine grounder to second that w...

After a walk and a pair of strikeouts, Costa Papoutsakis drove him in with an RBI single. Johnny Bulone hit a grounder to third that appeared to end the inning, but the errant throw allowed two runs to score and extend the lead to 3-0. A single by pitcher Zach Sisto brought up Dylan Mannino who also singled, which opened up a 4-0 lead. Sisto went out and worked...
Final: Oil City 4, Black Diamonds 3 WP: Kellen Franquiz@EcybTournaments pic.twitter.com/SejMpRZP8Y — Axcess Baseball LI (@axcessbaseball) August 15, 2020 Tonight was two outstanding games of baseball between the 11U Oil City Bandits and Black Diamonds at Mitchel Field. Each game came down to the final turn at bat. The teams came in separated by just 1.5 games in the standings so it would have playoff ramifications regardless of the outcome. Here’s how it went down. Game 1 It was an outstanding pitcher’s duel between Matt Tomasello and Rocco Liguori. The teams traded zeros in the first inning but Oil City broke through in the home half of the second on an RBI ground out by Kellen Franquiz who scored Liguori – who singled and stole second to get into scoring position. One t...
Dylan Beirne throws a complete game and seals the deal as the Bandits are the 2020 12U National Brian Moore Memorial Tournament Champions! What an incredible championship Sunday game. pic.twitter.com/AJAcFQmc8u — Axcess Baseball LI (@axcessbaseball) July 19, 2020 By Salvatore D’Onofrio This afternoon’s championship matchup between the Oil City Bandits and the Long Island Titans did not disappoint. In a back-and-forth game, the Bandits came out on top 6-5 behind a great pitching performance from Dylan Beirne and timely hits for the Bandits. On this hot afternoon at Burns Park in Massapequa, both teams started the game strong. The Bandits and the Titans had to win 2 games this morning to advance to the championship game. This is difficult for any team to play 3 games in one day but wi...
As a 17-year-old coming out of Malverne HS, Glenn Mitchell went unrecruited by Division-I Colleges. The only school that took notice was Queensborough Community College. That might be understandable if he wasn’t an All-State athlete in basketball and baseball armed with a fastball in the low 90s. While travel ball was not nearly as prevalent as it is today, it is still hard to believe a school would let an athlete like this go unnoticed. In any event, the local Major League Scouting Bureau run by the late Ralph DiLullo (Hall of Fame scout) and Larry Izzo did take notice. Malverne High School, like many schools were sent letters about an MLB Showcase at Eisenhower Park on Long Island. Mitchell performed well enough to garner interest from the Los Angeles Dodgers and Atlanta Braves. Th...
By Ethan Marshall Bandits’ head coach Ryan Gorecki on the way his team played today. pic.twitter.com/5dK48nXukH — Axcess Baseball LI (@axcessbaseball) October 13, 2019 The Oil City Bandits, behind five run second and fourth innings, defeated the Long Island Elite 14-10. One of the biggest plays of the game came when the Bandits’ Pat Sullivan belted a go-ahead three-run triple to deep center field in the bottom of the second inning. According to Sullivan, he was just focused on getting the bat on the ball to drive in the runner from third, but got a pitch to drive. “I was just looking for a pitch to hit up in the zone and just hit my pitch,” Sullivan said. The Elite took a 2-0 lead into the bottom of the second thanks to a Kenneth Zito RBI fielder’s choice in the first and Ryan Kunkel...
Final: Oil City 11, Sharks Baseball Academy 4WP: Dylan Beirne@EcybTournaments pic.twitter.com/SqaCNue6sM — Axcess Baseball LI (@axcessbaseball) July 5, 2019 With the score knotted at 4-4 in the top of the fifth inning the Oil City Bandits sent their top of the order to the plate. Nine batters later they held a commanding 8-4 lead. In between, they had five hits including a huge two-run go-ahead double by Carson Fessler to score Ryan Piccola (3-for-4) and Todd Segarra (2-for-3, BB). Dylan Beirne followed with an RBI single to extend it to 7-4 and Nick Alverez put the icing on the cake with an RBI double to left field to make it 8-4. They added three more in the top of the sixth on an RBI single by Segarra and a two-run single by Carson Fessler again. Beirne was a huge factor in this g...
by James Ryder The 12u National East Championship game featured the Oil City Bandits and the South Shore Sharks on Sunday at Plainedge Park. The game was played well by both teams, but it was the Bandits who stayed true to their name by stealing the show, as well as 11 stolen bases, in a 12-7 victory. Clearly, the teams scored a lot of runs, but Oil City didn’t quite score the way you may think they did. Exactly half of their runs came off of two walks (each with bases loaded) and four pass balls. In addition to their aforementioned base stealing, the Bandits offense stayed consistent throughout the day and allowed them to never be down in the game past the first inning. Speaking of the first inning, the Sharks scored one run in the opening frame when Sawyer Shectman hit a single to right ...
Final: Oil City Bandits 6, Westchester Jr Ducks 0. Ivan Epps and Todd Segarra combine to throw a no-hitter. pic.twitter.com/ReJIvpIvBT — Axcess Baseball LI (@axcessbaseball) May 26, 2019 The 12u Oil City Bandits, coached by Tommy Beirne, defeated the Westchester Jr Ducks 6-0, without allowing a hit in the process. The Bandits pushed across the only run that they would need in the top of the first inning. Todd Segarra was hit by a pitch, and as a result of some sloppy defense by the Ducks, came around to score the first run of the game. In the bottom of the inning, the Ducks did threaten to score, working back to back walks with two outs. But Bandits starting pitcher, Ivan Epps, was able to focus up as he struck out the following batter to escape the jam. Not content with just one run, the ...
Bandits starting pitcher Ivan Epps on his outing: pic.twitter.com/MUNY7z7s9e — Axcess Baseball LI (@axcessbaseball) May 18, 2019 by Ethan Marshall The Oil City Bandits scored three runs in the first inning without the benefit of a hit and never looked back as they defeated the Islip Owls 4-2 in five innings. Bandits starting pitcher Ivan Epps allowed two runs on three hits with seven strikeouts and four walks over 3.1 innings. His only blemish came in the second inning on a two-run double by Brandon Ruocco after back-to-back walks to open the frame. The other two hits he allowed both came on swinging bunts down the third base line that the hitters barely managed to beat out. According to Bandits head coach Tommy Beirne, Epps looked better as the game went along, but he had to be pulled onc...
