Following Monday’s instant classic, the two teams collided once more for Game 2, this time at Oceanside High School with even higher stakes. For Oceanside, the objective was clear-cut: win, and you f...

Now we’re looking to close out the series tomorrow.” On a sunny afternoon during spring break, the Braves and Sailors were tallied up against each other with Oceanside now holding an 8-6 record in the loss. On the road, Syosset got out to a 2-0 lead in the first two innings on a Ryan Steinberg double and a Steven Klein single. Both teams trade zeros in ...

That doesn’t mean they can’t enjoy some victories along the way – as they defeated a tough Oceanside team, 4-1, with their ace Mike D’Ambrosio on the hill. The Hofstra-commit, who was named First Team Preseason All-Long Island came out of the gate firing, striking out three hitters in the first two innings that he breezed through. Though the result did not favor Oceanside, there was a positive in their Nassau County Class AA playoff experience. The Sailors developed a young, inexperienced 2022 core into a 2024 college-bound group. Head coach Mike Postilio highly praises his two junior leaders, Luke Villella (‘25) and Kyle Scheurer (‘25). “When I watched them as freshmen, you wouldn’t tell they were freshmen. ...

Opening up against a powerhouse like Massapequa was not an easy task for coach Mike Postilio and his young Oceanside squad. Massapequa are the five-time reigning Class AA Nassau County Champs and were looking to establish their dominance early in the county. Oceanside had different plans for the evening. Mike Furst took the mound for Oceanside. He kept them competitive by tossing 4 1/3 innings, striking out f...

The Sailors then upset Farmingdale and made it back to the Nassau Final 4 where their season would end, but the future looked extremely bright. Unfortunately for the Oceanside Sailors, they ended up missing the playoffs for the first time in coach Mike Postilio’s 10 years as a head coach in 2022. There was a lot to take away from the previous spring and it seems like Postilio looks towards the positives. “We sta...

Last year, Port Washington’s playoff hopes came down to a tie breaker game against Oceanside, in which they lost and missed out on the postseason. However, this year in their final series, once again facing well known foe Oceanside, they were victorious. This game featured a pitching matchup between Maritime-commit Will Chu for Port Washington and Peter Davies for Oceanside. The first trip to the plate for Oceanside looked like they were coming in with plans to abuse the short right field fence at Port Washington’s ho...

We had great leadership.” They were eliminated in the semifinals against Massapequa in a best-of-three series. Multiple seniors from last year’s team have since graduated, but...
Yesterday was Game 1 of the Nassau County semifinals for each Conference. I won’t say it was filled with thrilling games (because three of them were run-rules), but it was certainly filled with outstanding individual performances. I bounced around like a mad man from Massapequa to Island Trees to Division. It took until my third stop to find a competitive game so I’m thankful I continued to search. Here’s a breakdown of each: Massapequa 10, Oceanside 0 Carter DeSousa with a walk-off single as Massapequa wins via run-rule 10-0 over Oceanside in Game 1 of the Nassau Conference I semifinals. With one of the best pitchers on Long Island, Andrew Alameda, getting the start for the Dalers. Over the course of the first four innings, Alameda only allowed one base runner on a walk to start the game. The Dalers took advantage of two consecutive Oceanside errors in the first inning, when Nick Napolitiano plated the first two runs of the game with a double. It was all Farmingdale early. The offense did not stop piling on early in the game. The Dalers plated five more runs over the next two innings. Of those five runs, four of them we...

For the first time ever, colleges were forced to rely on something other than varsity baseball to determine who was capable of playing at the next level. Oceanside HC Mike Postillo, now entering his ninth season noted how truly unique this situation has been. “I was talking with Frank (Tassielli), the Farmingdale coach, and joking that the last game I coached was the exceptional senior game in June 2019 and those kids are in their second yea...

Oceanside, despite falling back 7-1, mounted the comeback in the fourth inning and later created a cushion for themselves in the sixth. This resulted in their 10-7 victory over Bethpage. Both squads were scoreless heading into the bottom of the secon...
