David Aufiero: Why I Chose Sacred Heart

(Editor’s Note: David Aufiero is one of the top pitchers on the island. The hard-throwing RHP just finished up an outstanding season for the North Shore Vikings in which he went 7-1 with a 1.14 ERA over 49 IP. He allowed only 30 hits and 14 BB while fanning 67 batters which is good for a 0.90 WHIP. He fired 7 CGs and faced 5 All-County pitchers along the way. Among his victories were two complete game shutouts (one one-hitter and a two-hitter). In the postseason, he fired two complete games; against Mepham and Seaford. He did yield more than two runs in any start and he allowed just two successful stolen base attempts in four tries while also picking off two runners from first base. He recently committed to Sacred Heart, where his brother Matt (Chaminade 2017) plays. The following wo...

However, that didn’t stop David Aufiero from bringing his best stuff. The hard throwing ace went the distance for North Shore, propelling them to a 5-2 victory over Mepham. He finished his outing allowing seven hits, one earned run and struck out eight. “I just did the same thing I’ve been doing all year and it worked out,” said Aufiero. At the plate, North Shore came out of the gates blazing hot. The Vikings put up three runs in the bottom half of the first, giving Aufiero a comfortable cushion to work...

Nassau Class A Power Rankings (3rd Edition)

Almost at the midway point in the season, it seems as if nobody is as dominant this year in Class A. This week in Class A, we’ll take a look at teams that are trending upwards, and teams that are trending downwards. In perhaps the most exciting week of regular season baseball in recent history, let’s take a look at the teams that stood out this week, followed by the top ten teams in the county. TRENDING UP: Division (2-1) In every sport, there’s always specific organizations that always find a way to succeed no matter how talented their team is. After losing key players such as Brandon O’Brien and Sean Papro...

Final: Division 13, North Shore 2 (5 innings) WP: Robert Bradley pic.twitter.com/J5wRdeZVVP — Axcess Baseball LI (@axcessbaseball) April 6, 2018 With one swing of the bat by James Horodecki, Division made a huge statement. In what promised to be a tightly-contested rubber match between two of the top teams in Nassau County Class A, it was the Blue Dragons of Division HS who came out swinging early-and-often against a strong North Shore team that opened up its season with a three-game sweep outscoring Floral Park 33-2. Nassau County Class A Power Rankings (2nd Edition)

Another year, another opening week in the books. A chilly week of baseball included surprising results in Class A, such as Bellmore JFK defeating the back-to-back county champions on opening day and Hewlett coming out of the series with a tie against Plainedge. The winter weather didn’t effect baseball last week, so let’s hope the same happens this week, although there’s another winter storm on the way. Entering the month of April, here are the new top five teams in Class A. 5. Plainedge (2-0-1) (Last week: #4) Although Plainedge didn’t come out of the series with a clean sweep, there was a ton of promise that came along with the first series of the year. After tying Hewlett 5-5 in game two of the series, the Red Devils bounced back in a big way in game 3 of the ser...
