Top 4: plenty of action in this game – a 2-R single by Tristan Garcia and North Babylon opens up a 9-4 lead pic.twitter.com/829aNslIGO — Axcess Baseball LI (@axcessbaseball) March 31, 2023 It is rare that you see a high school freshman conduct himself with the maturity of a senior. By all accounts, Tristan Garcia is that type of person. He was also talented enough to start all 23 games and bat .395 for a playoff team in Suffolk Class AA, then continue that success right into the travel ball circuit with MVP Baseball. He batted .394 with six doubles, 16 RBIs and went 6-1 on the mound with a 1.93 ERA and 34 strikeouts. Garcia is an exciting player and will be a major part of the North Babylon Bulldogs core for the next three seasons. That is bad news for opposing teams. I spoke with hi...

Paul Tuozzolo in annual Law Enforcement Tribute Game pic.twitter.com/yJAfQnxumG — Axcess Baseball LI (@axcessbaseball) April 28, 2023 Entering his 12th season as the head coach of the North Babylon Bulldogs, head coach Steve Corrado is coming off a 2023 in which his team finished with a solid 14-9 record. Although they did not reach their ultimate goal, the Bulldogs did win a playoff game. And are poised to make another deep run in the 2024 season. The Bulldogs lost their first playoff game in 2023 at the hands of West Islip, before beating Northport in their second game. Following their win to keep their hopes aliv...

Ken Kortright State Farm Game of the Week: North Babylon’s Bats Come to Life in 13-7 Win Over Hills East

Postgame interview with Chris Stumpf who was the winning pitcher in Game 1 & 3 of the series and saved Game 2 as North Babylon improves to 3-0 on the season. He’s our Player of the Game Powered by @GCsports pic.twitter.com/XewGp9GQ2w — Axcess Baseball LI (@axcessbaseball) March 31, 2023 North Babylon had a strong season last year, but Coach Steve Corrado noted that they hurt themselves with their failure to secure more series sweeps, which impacted their playoff seeding. So far, so good. The Bulldogs pulled off the series sweep against a difficult Hills East team on Friday afternoon in the final day of March. They had won the first game, 1-0, on a walk-off single in the eighth inning. Chris Stumpf earned the win in relief. They won Game 2, 4-2, behind a strong pitching performance by D...

North Babylon Primed for Postseason Return

by Nick Cipolla North Babylon was one of the biggest surprises in Section XI in 2022. The Bulldogs had a team with only 25 innings of combined varsity experience from their pitching staff before the season began, but that didn’t stop them from going 11-7 and making the playoffs. They even flirted with the league title, something that many felt was impossible for the Bulldogs in 2022. North Babylon’s head coach Steve Corrado is very happy with the growth of his team over the last two seasons. “In 2021 we graduated most of our pitching and infield”, said coach Corrado, “We went into last year with only 25 innings pitched of experience. In contrast we have 97 innings of pitching experience coming back for 2023. We never felt out of a game last year and the team showed great resilience from th...

Lightning Forces Suspended Game Between North Babylon-Hauppauge With 3-3 Tie

With an impending storm in the forecast, North Babylon and Hauppauge attempted to get a full game in on Thursday afternoon, but lightning during the bottom of the sixth forced the umpires to call the game off – which will be completed on Monday at 2pm with a 3-3 tie. The game itself was outstanding, as the Hauppauge Eagles attempted to salvage the third and final game of the series against a talented North Babylon team. Hauppauge sent Matt Neglia to the mound against LHP Justin Arciniegas. Neglia struck out two batters in an impressive 1-2-3 inning against the high-octane North Bab lineup. Their leadoff hitter, Devonte Bailey, is batting .440, and Eric Schultiesz is batting .460. In the home half of the first, Matt Neglia singled and stole second. After Mike Oliveto flew out to left,...

North Babylon Returning 5 Starters From Playoff Season

By Michael Malaszczyk While every baseball team on Long Island was affected by the coronavirus pandemic with the full shutdown in 2020 and case surges in 2021, North Babylon was hit particularly hard. A number of North Babylon’s starting players began the season while in quarantine, and one of North Babylon’s coaches was put in a ten day quarantine in the middle of the season. Nevertheless, North Babylon bounced back to have a strong season that saw them finish 9-9 overall and clinch a playoff spot, defying these early hiccups. “After a 0-3 start, the team battled to clinch a playoff berth on the final day of the season with a 1-0 win over Walt Whitman,” said Corrado. “Eventually we lost to Bay Shore in the first round of the playoffs.” Corrado is proud of his team for overcoming the odds ...

North Babylon Looks To Restore Momentum From 2019

by Chris Sacchi Steve Corrado and his North Babylon High School Baseball team can be seen as a reflection of the current state of affairs when it comes to overcoming Covid-19. At first, Corrado has to reflect on what has been lost: “The first thing I would say is that last year, my heart was broken for my seniors, that they didn’t get an opportunity to come back out and prove that we were going to be a good team.” Just like the rest of the world, Corrado is hoping we can reclaim what was had before. OTD: Jake Guercio’s Big Day Leads West Islip Over North Babylon

(Editor’s Note: This article originally appeared on April 14, 2018.) In a makeup game, the West Islip Lions defeat the North Babylon Bulldogs 15-6. Fordham-commit Jake Guercio went 3-for-3 with a three-run home run, three RBI and two stolen bases. West Islip improves to 6-2 while North Babylon falls to 5-3. Jordan Piht gets the win for West Islip while Evan Christopher earns the loss for North Babylon. “I don’t think the score was really indicative of the game,” says West Islip head coach Shawn Rush. “We had some big hits in some big spots…Any time you get out of North Babylon with a victory is a good day,” he added. West Islip got the scoring started early, with Jimmy Loeffler driving in Guercio on a RBI double. Senior Anthony Ippolito would drive in Loeffler on a double in the next...

North Babylon 2020 Season Preview

by Zevan Shuster Coming off an extremely successful season last year, North Babylon baseball coach Steve Corrado knows his team will have to reinvent itself if they are to be successful on this upcoming campaign.  “We lost a lost of experience last year. We had a good team last year. We were 17-5, and we had a school record 11-game winning streak at one point. What came with that is we had three senior pitchers at the top of the rotation who threw 134 out of 161 innings,” Corrado said. “We think we have some talented kids, but we have kids that are going to have to prove themselves on the varsity level this year, especially on the mound, which is not always easy to do at this level.” While their success was obvious last year, Corrado knows it won’t come as easy this time around. However, h...

Brian Primm Commits to Pace University

It’s not often that an impact player is announcing his college commitment after his senior year concludes. It took an extremely unusual circumstance, but North Babylon 1B/RHP Brian Primm announced that he will be attending Pace University in the fall. Primm was originally committed to LIU Post, but after the merger with LIU Brooklyn, he decided–like several other 2019 grads including E.J. Exposito, Peter Schimmel, Michael Storms, Stevie Proko–to de-commit. Exposito will be attending NYIT, Schimmel will be going to St. Thomas Aquinas and Storms/Proko will go to Adelphi. Primm had the best season out of all of them and is a finalist for the coveted Carl Yastrzemski Award next week. He went 5-0 with a 0.73 ERA on the mound over 38.1 IP. He also batted .431 with a 1.156 OPS a...
