Photo Credit: Vinny Messana It was another good weekend for St. Joseph’s, who swept Mount St. Vincent’s on Sunday and split with Mount St. Mary’s on Saturday to improve to 16-12.On Saturday, in their 7-2 victory–they committed three errors but out-hit the opposition 13-4. Joe Calabrese and Joe Lynn both had three hits and drove in a run. Brendan Sullivan and Anthony Bonilla both had two hits. Glenn Patriss threw the seven-inning CG, allowing four hits, 0 ER while striking out three. On Sunday, they won 11-0 in the first game of the DH. By Jesse Borek PATCHOGUE, NY — Staying undefeated in Skyline Conference play thus far this season, the St. Joseph’s Golden Eagles stunned the Old Westbury Panthers to sweep the doubleheader on the back of a four-run, ninth-inning comeback in the opener. After the shock of scoring four runs in their final at-bat in the nine-inning opener, the Golden Eagles would finish off the Panthers 4-1 in the backend of the cap, moving to 5-0 in Conference play. Aided by two errors, timely hitting, and a ton of wind, St. Joseph’s stormed back in the bottom of the ninth to win on senior Anthony Andreani’s walk-off base hit. The offense compiled 11 hits, with Nick Girardi, Joe Calabrese, Dennis McAllister and James Terry all driving in two runs to lead the Golden Eagles. Frank Ziegler started and went five innings, allowing one run on one hit and four walks to record his first win of the season.Chris Bauer threw two innings in relief, allowing two runs to seal the victory.The Golden Eagles opened up the scoring in the second inning on a wild pitch, which scored Calabrese. They broke out with a six-spot in the third to essentially put the game away. CCNY took the second game by the score of 5-4.They will host Farmingdale in a crucial double header on Monday.

Four crooked numbers and some gutsy pitching from ace Ryan Aloise was the recipe to get back in the ‘W’ column. “I think the batters were patient,” said second year Head Coach Richard Garrett. “They worked the counts, but at the same time, if they saw it, they jumped on it early. Brad Witkowski tied the game at 2 with an RBI double. They compiled only four hits in the game, but it did not matter. Brian MacDonald got the start for Hofstra–he threw six inning, allowing one ER on seven hits while striking out six. He received the no-decision. Both offenses struggled to get going in the frigid, cold, weather. Briarcliffe was able to put numbers on the board first thanks to a Zach Mastrangelo RBI single to right field, driving in Nick Marzano to give Briarcliffe a 1-0 lead in the 6th. After seven cancellations, they headed to Fort Meyers and proceeded to lose six of eight games. The aggregate run total: Foes, 48Golden Eagles 27 They did have a 9-4 victory over Pitt-Bradford and a 6-4 victory over Elms on Wednesday. Glenn Patriss was terrific–6.2 IP, 6 H, 0 ER, 1 BB, 3 K. After two losses, they were able to come out victorious 6-4 against Elms in a seven-inning game. The offense came to play–they smashed 12 hits with Nick Girardi leading the way with three of those. Anthony Bonilla, Brendan Sullivan and Joe Calabrese added two hits each. They got out to a 3-0 lead in the top of the third on an RBI single by Girardi and a two-run single by Sullivan. Elms pushed across two in the bottom of the fourth to make it interesting for a bit.
