Nick Frusco Commits to Clemson

Miller Place sophomore LHP Nick Frusco carried a perfect game into the sixth inning and struck out 15 in a 13-0 win over East Hampton pic.twitter.com/Ud2EPCfWSf — Axcess Baseball LI (@axcessbaseball) March 30, 2023 Long Island has long been a hotspot for producing hard-throwing southpaws. This has been true dating back to the 1970s when Neal Heaton was the No. 1 overall pick in the country but chose to attend Miami. It seems every couple years there’s another young stud that garners interest from Power 5 conferences. Next up is Miller Place southpaw Nick Frusco. After initially committing to Rutgers, he de-committed and announced his commitment to Clemson this past week. Frusco has been up to 94 MPH with his fastball and sits in the low 90s. As a sophomore, he led Long Island pitcher...

This year, the Panthers are under new leadership. Joe Mancini is taking the reigns from former head coach Ricky Caputo. Mancini served as Miller Place’s assistant coach for eight years under Caputo. In terms of coaching style, Mancini plans to focus on the fundamentals.  “I learned a lot from Rick. I’m very grateful for the time we had together. We grew a bond, he’s a...

Ken Kortright State Farm Game of the Week: Bennie Franquiz Stays Red-Hot, Mount Sinai Defeats Miller Place, 4-1

Jacob Rentz earned his second win of the season and Bennie Franquiz continued his incredible start to the season with a 3-hit day including an RBI single to break a scoreless tie in the fourth. @GCsports pic.twitter.com/fQAazht5Tf — Axcess Baseball LI (@axcessbaseball) April 22, 2023 With the game tied 0-0 in the top of the fourth inning and a runner on second, Mount Sinai‘s shortstop, Bennie Franquiz, stepped to the plate against hard-throwing left-handed pitcher Nick Frusco. In most circumstances, a team would prefer the lefty-lefty match up. But with a .650 hitter at the plate, this was a scenario it would’ve made sense for an intentional walk. Franquiz made him pay with an RBI single up the middle to send his dugout into a frenzy and give Mount Sinai the 1-0 lead. They adde...

Recap of Blue Chip Prospect’s Pitcher/Catcher Showcase

Yesterday was the final showcase of 2022. It was the Blue Chip Prospect Pitchers/Catchers Showcase at Prospect Sports. There is always a great turnout of players and college coaches and an event I always look forward to. Below are the players that stood out the most to me during the event: Evan Cabral (Garden City 2025) Uncommitted RHP Evan Cabral (Garden City 2025) sitting 85-86, Splitter 78 pic.twitter.com/nCi6i34xxV — Axcess Baseball LI (@axcessbaseball) November 6, 2022 Evan is very advanced and especially when you consider his age. He has great command and he has clean mechanics and generates a tight spin on his breaking ball. Not many high school pichers can throw a splitter like him, either. High-end Division-I potential with a starters’ build. Nick Frusco (Miller Place 2025) ...

Up Next Powered by Eye Q Investigations: Nick Frusco

(This is the second installment of the 2022 Up Next Series Powered by Eye Q Investigations, where we highlight the top underclassmen on Long Island. This is a 10-part series. You can read the first one on Miguel Sime Jr. by clicking here. All of these uncommitted players should have a huge impact on their high school teams this season and eventually will be Division-I players). The only thing more coveted than left-handed pitching is flame-throwing left-handed pitchers. We’ve been fortunate on Long Island to have a long list of great ones. While it is certainly early on in the process, Miller Place appears to have a pretty talented one in sophomore southpaw Nick Frusco. He first put himself on our map at our July showcase where he was sitting in the low to mid 80s and touching 85. Th...

Recapping Wednesday’s Underclassmen Showcase

It’s not often you get some of the top uncommitted players on Long Island all in one location. Additionally, it’s not often high school players get the opportunity to play in front of 19 Division-I & II coaches. That’s what occurred on Wednesday at Long Island Indoor Sports in Ronkonkoma for the Underclassmen Showcase. Below are just some of the schools that were in attendance: St. John’s Hofstra Stony Brook LIU Princeton Seton Hall Manhattan Albany Iona Farleigh Dickinson Molloy AIC Felician 50 players were in attendance which made for an outstanding ratio of coaches: players. Below are some players that really caught my attention and stood out. AJ Aschettino (Rocky Point 2024) AJ Aschettino (Rocky Point 2024) 79 mph pic.twitter.com/QaABKzuwcq — Axcess Baseball...
