Here’s a special opportunity for young Long Island baseball players that rarely comes along. Mariano Rivera, owner of the all-time Major League record for most saves in a career (652) and five-time World Series champ, will be hosting a pitching clinic at St. John the Baptist on Saturday, October 14. The clinic is for players age 7-13 and will cost $225 per player. The fee will include a meet & greet with Rivera, an event t-shirt, instructional clinic and autograph session. The clinic will be limited to 100 players and will come on a first-come, first-serve basis. Also at the clinic will be current minor leaguers Nick Fanti (Hauppauge 2015), Bryan Verbitsky (Island Trees 2010), Matt Reistetter (Hauppauge 2010), Jared Finkel (Iona 2017), Cam Maron (Hicksville 2009) and Mariano Rive...

He won 11 games for the Blue Jays last season and was slated to start Opening Day in Yankee Stadium before tearing his ACL during Spring Training in a freak injury. All reports indicate he is back on track and will return to his previous form in 2016. Stroman’s 94-96 MPH fastball is a dominant pitch by itself but tha...

The No. 2 prospect in the 2015 graduating class, according to Blue Chip Prospects, will attempt to make it three consecutive no-hitters tomorrow against Bellport.“How could it not be?” he said in regards to whether he has been thinking about achieving this milestone. “It would be awesome to throw another one but in the end , hits are a part of the game and it will almost be relieving to give one up because it will allow me to focus more on letting them hit balls early in the count instead of going deep into the counts trying to strike them out,” he added. This season, he has thrown 19 innings, allowing only two hits while st...
