Nick Fanti on His Experience in the World Baseball Classic

by Nick Fanti My experience in the world baseball classic is something that I can’t stop talking about. A moment I want to talk about is the first game vs Mexico. I will never say the Italian team was an underdog in this bracket because we were not. We belonged there because we knew what kind of team we had and we showed that we belonged in that game We were down four going into the bottom of the ninth and we were actually the home team against the host Mexico with one of the best closers in baseball on the mound in Roberto Osuna. We came back to score five runs without Mexico recording a single out. We dog piled, and I got some tv time. You will never see a stadium flip from loud to silent like that stadium did that night. But the significance of this game to me was crazy and differ...

Flynn + Fanti > Matz + Stroman?

Debates like this are fun because there won’t be an answer for at least another decade. Nevertheless, it’s something worth stirring up. Which duo will go onto have a better career out of the Carl Yastrzemski /Paul Gibson Award winners--Nick Fanti and Joe Flynn or Marcus Stroman and Steve Matz? The latter duo already have set a high bar. Stroman had a standout career at Duke University before getting drafted in the first round in the 2012 MLB Draft by Toronto. He won 11 games for the Blue Jays last season and was slated to start Opening Day in Yankee Stadium before tearing his ACL during Spring Training in a freak injury. All reports indicate he is back on track and will return to his previous form in 2016. Stroman’s 94-96 MPH fastball is a dominant pitch by itself but tha...

Quarterfinals Recap

Photo Credit: Vinny Messana Yesterday was Suffolk County’s equivalent of the Elite 8. There was three great games and one blowout. Here’s a quick recap: East Islip 1, Hauppauge 0: For most of the season, Hauppauge was close to unbeatable. When Nick Fanti was on the mound, they were definitely unbeatable. He had allowed only four ER on the season, but he was facing East Islip’s ace, Mike Demarest, who is heading to Adelphi in the fall. He entered with eight wins but was pitching on two-days rest. Both pitcher’s brought their ‘A’ game and the score remained tied into the eighth inning. Tyler Clehane smacked a solo HR in the eighth inning of Fanti, which was only the second XBH he has allowed all season. Demarest recorded his ninth victory of the season whi...

Nick Fanti Will Attempt Third Consecutive No-Hitter For Haupauge on Tuesday

Photo Credit: Newsday Hauppauge’s ace left-handed pitcher, Nick Fanti, is coming off consecutive no-hitters against Glenn and Huntington. The No. 2 prospect in the 2015 graduating class, according to Blue Chip Prospects, will attempt to make it three consecutive no-hitters tomorrow against Bellport.“How could it not be?” he said in regards to whether he has been thinking about achieving this milestone. “It would be awesome to throw another one but in the end , hits are a part of the game and it will almost be relieving to give one up because it will allow me to focus more on letting them hit balls early in the count instead of going deep into the counts trying to strike them out,” he added. This season, he has thrown 19 innings, allowing only two hits while st...
