It was a remarkable day of baseball for everyone that stuck around for both games – which includes 19 innings of baseballs and more runs than you can count. The level of difficulty for Queens College entering today was incredibly high – as they were not only entering the day fatigued from the previous two days, but they needed to face one of the best pitcher...

Saturday College Recap (2/18) Powered by Orlin & Cohen

by Andy Smith It was day 2 of the college baseball season, and although the local Division-I programs have gotten off to slow starts, it was the reigning ECC Champs that provided the bright spots for Long Island baseball. Here’s how it went down… Division-I: STONY BROOK It was another rough day for Stony Brook as they dropped the second game of the series against California State Northridge by a score of 14-4.  The Seawolves could not keep up with the potent Matadors offense who jumped out to a five run lead in the first inning.  The Matadors registered 17 total hits and two home runs.   Despite the loss, first baseman Brett Paulsen was productive at the plate once again, this time with an RBI double.  Senior Brandon Lashley was dominant in relief, throwing a scoreless 3.1 inni...

Longtime coach Joe Fucarino has built Molloy into one of the best Div-II programs in the region and they are looking to build on the recent success pic.twitter.com/Yb17jFthpk — Axcess Baseball LI (@axcessbaseball) October 21, 2022 In 2020, we saw a Molloy program that appeared to be on the verge of breaking out. Obviously, that was thwarted by the pandemic, however, with the bulk of that team returning for the next two years it was clear that they were looking to capitalize and win a couple conference championships. That’s exactly what they were able to accomplish – led by longtime head coach Joe Fucarino and a loaded roster that was among the most talented Division-II teams in the nation. The Lions were named the 2021 Axcess College Team of the Year and followed that up with a...

Auffant and the Ravens Defense Shine as Franklin Pierce Wins 8-0 Over Molloy to Force Deciding Game

by Chris Prystupa Andres Aufant (Center Moriches) went 5.2IP in relief allowing only 5 hits and keeping the Molloy bats quiet. Here is his reflection on his outing and FPU’s win today. pic.twitter.com/QLCjPN5x01 — Axcess Baseball LI (@axcessbaseball) May 21, 2022 Everything seemingly fell into place today for the #6 Franklin Pierce University Ravens as they defeated the #2 Molloy Lions by a score of 8-0. After a scoreless first inning the Ravens took advantage of back-to-back to back errors committed by the Lions to jump out to a 2-0 lead. In the bottom half of the second inning the Ravens made one of the best decisions and summoned Andres Auffant out of the bullpen and never looked back.  Auffant, a Center Moriches alum, had just about everything in his arsenal working today as he went 6 ...

Two Years Later: Looking Back on March 2020 and the Impact of COVID on Baseball

So much has happened over the past 2 years, but at the same time March 2020 still feels like yesterday. That dreaded month that started a cavalcade of negative news and heartache. From strictly a baseball perspective, so many kids had their high school baseball careers end without much of a warning. So much unfinished business on the field. Those dreary days of March that seemingly never ended, followed by the beautiful spring weather of April and May that came and went without as much as a home run, no-hitter or walk-off win. I wanted to get the perspective of a high school and college coach, so I asked two trusted people – John Galanoudis of Molloy and Matt Rocchio of John Glenn to look back on what it was like during the time period and how they’ve turned the page. “Lo...
