You may remember May of 2017 in the early days of Axcess Baseball when a fresh-faced freshman smoked a game-winning three-run HR to deliver a big victory for Farmingdale over Port Washington. Fast forward 27 months and that slugger is now entering his senior year, and is one of the well-respected all-around players on Long Island. Manetta, having been a middle-of-the-order hitter/starting catcher for the Dalers and some high-profile travel organizations, was one of the highly-sought after players entering this summer. He announced his verbal commitment to Albany this weekend, meaning the Dalers will trot out an all-America East battery on Opening Day next year with ace Justin Rosner (Binghamton-commit) likely receiving the start. I had a chance to speak with Manetta, and here’s what ...
With the game knotted at 3-3 in the sixth inning, Sean Paprocki stepped up the bases loaded and a chance to give the Old Westbury Panthers the lead. The Division-grad laced a two-run double down the right field line to give the Panthers a 5-3 lead. They continued to tack on that inning including a two-run single later in the inning by Mike Manetta and a two-run HR by Shaun Kaminski to break it wide open. Old Westbury starting pitcher Adam Heidenfelder was working very hard, he needed 111 pitches to get through six innings but he was able to make the big pitches when he needed to. He finished with eight strikeouts and eight hits allowed with two walks. Heidenfelder was Old Westbury’s best pitcher throughout the season, he compiled an ERA of 1.25 and a K:BB ratio of 33:6. Adam Heidenfe...
Vinny Rice (Farmingdale State) went 2-for-2 with a double and a triple pic.twitter.com/95gis0yAw0 — Axcess Baseball LI (@axcessbaseball) July 17, 2018 Don’t tell Mike Manetta it’s only an exhibition game. The SUNY Old Westbury rising sophomore hit a routine ground ball to second base with the tying run on third base and 2 outs in the ninth inning with the National All-Stars trailing 6-5 in the LICBL All-Star Game. The speedy left-handed batter busted it out of the box and beat the bang-bang play to tie the game at 6-6, which would ultimately be the final score. It was a microcosm of how the game was played, with both teams exchanging blows, big hits from both teams and no team taking greater than a two-run lead at any point. The hard-throwing Ryan Sandberg, who just transferred...
Senior Adam Heidenfelder will be anchoring the rotation pic.twitter.com/UnEyFlV8bf Axcess Baseball (@axcessbaseball) September 22, 2017 Today I was down at the Jackie Robinson Athletic Complex, home of the SUNY Old Westbury Panthers, to get a good look at the team they will be going to battle with during the 2018 season. They are coming off a 20-16 campaign, but had their season cut short by No. 5 Mount St. Mary’s in a shocking upset. They graduated 12 players, notably two-time All-Long Island SS Tommy Ziegen, CF Kevin Lao, C Carlos Balmaceda, 3b Michael Cardino in the lineup and RHPs Daniel Aguilo and Trey Pizzutello from the rotation. With that being the case, the performance and leadership of the returning players that they do have is critical. Second baseman Jesse Russo ha...
