Hills West Led by 9 Seniors and Talented Sophomore Class
Hills West captured a share of the League V title in 2019 with Hauppauge as they both finished with a record of 11-4. They went on to lost two playoff games to Shoreham-Wading River by the scores of 9-7 and 4-3. That year’s team was led by the Silver Slugger Award winner of Suffolk County, infielder Mike Draskin who is now at Adelphi University. Another key contributor was Aidan Tornquist, who is now at Fordham University. This year’s team will have a big senior class. One of the beauties of attending a showcase is that it affords you the opportunity to display your skills in front of coaches that otherwise wouldn’t see you. When you combine an event like Saturday’s Blue Chip Prospect unsigned senior showcase with a platform like Axcess Baseball, I think it’s a winning combination. Yesterday was a great event because there was about 40 seniors that are looking to play college baseball and about a dozen local schools that are looking for quality players. Considering the circumstances that these players have had to endure during their biggest year of high school baseball, it’s definitely worth being in attendance. Hills West Well-Positioned For Another Run at League 5 Title
With an elite Head Coach such as Tom Migliozzi, sometimes a team can catapult from playoff contender to League Champions. That is precisely what happened last year when Hills West took a team with two seniors and two freshmen and tied for the League 5 with Eastport-South Manor. Migliozzi, now in his 27th season at the helm, has 394 wins and 11 league titles to his name. He has the uncanny ability of maximizing the ability of players.
