It was a truly special year for Michael Milano‘s club, who dropped down from Class A, and are right back up there this year. They finished with a record of 22-2, losing to Wheatley in a regular season game and Babylon in the Class B Long Island Championship at St. Joseph’s University in a game that they led 5-2. Coach Milano, who has been at the helm since 2004,  spoke to Axcess Baseball about their incredible season. “When you have a group like that, there is a whole new l...

Led By Conference A4 Pitcher of the Year, Seaford Ready to Return to Postseason

by Brian Honka Uncommitted RHP Sean Costello (Seaford 2023) up to 88 MPH. Was named All-County and Conference Pitcher of the Year pic.twitter.com/BKLf1rlZw2 — Axcess Baseball LI (@axcessbaseball) June 24, 2022 Seaford is looking to improve upon a season that featured a 12-10-1 record and 2 playoff wins over Garden City and Island Trees giving them a trip to the quarterfinal. Unfortunately, the season didn’t end the way they hoped as they lost to the 3rd seed MacArthur Generals. Coach Milano said that last year was something to be extremely proud of coming out of arguably one of the toughest leagues in Class A. The team lost All-Conference SS Evan Block (SUNY Maritime), the team will also need to replace battery mates RHP Jack Kellner (SUNY Maritime) and C Joe Bello (Baruch) who received Al...

Seaford Loaded With Depth, Primed for Another Playoff Run

Last year, they put together a very strong showing, going 14-4 overall and 14-2 in conference play. They were ultimately eliminated by Island Trees, who went on to win the title. Despite a disappointing end, Seaford has a lot to look forward to in 2022. Despite losing a pair of all-county players to graduation (pitcher Tom Hartmann and shortstop/pitcher Anthony Ippoliti), Seaford has a large core of returning players, as 15 are expected to be back in 2022. After Graduating 15 Seniors in 2020, Seaford Hopeful to Stay Competitive Once Again

Michael Milano is entering his 17th season as head coach of Seaford and he’s excited to watch his team play baseball again, but it’s what did not happen last year that still bothers him. “A lot of guys have emptiness in their hearts about last year,” he said in regards to losing out on the 2020 season. “We really invested a lot in those guys, we took our lumps with them and we were going to be very tough to beat,” he added. Milano noted that he had 15 seniors in the ’20 class. Of those, seven were everyday players and his top two starters, Frank Cozzolino and Chris Pupa were co-aces since their sophomore seasons. They were both All-County pitchers in 2019 and their catcher, Nick Barreiros, was a standout player that is now at Queens College. “...

Seaford Enters 2020 With Veteran Group Of 15 Seniors

by Zevan Shuster For most high school and college coaches, consistency and continuity are the things they crave the most, yet have the least. However, for Seaford head coach Michael Milano, he has the luxury of having them en masse.  “I don’t think it’s going to take us time to gel because we have 15 seniors. They are all in their 4th year of playing Seaford high school baseball. Well over five of them have been starting players since they were sophomores, and two juniors also played every day last year as sophomores. So I think this team is used to being around each other. They played four playoff games last year. Only one everyday player graduated,” Milano said.  As big of an advantage as Milano’s squad may have, and as much of a proverbial head start they may be afforded when it comes t...
