Photo Credit: Vinny Messana Old Westbury padded their resume a little more with another easy win–this time an 11-3 rout of John Jay to improve to 19-8.Nick Schoen started and went six innings–he allowed one ER and struck out five batters for the win. The game was close in the fifth inning when Nick Yip hit his fifth home run of the season to open up a 3-1 lead. Christian Faust opened the game up with a two-run double in the seventh inning. Faust finished with three hits and two RBI. Michael Cardino had two hits and drove in two. Six-Run Sixth Powers Old Westbury Past Mount St. Vincent’s

Photo Credit: Vinny Messana Tommy Zeigen broke a 3-3 tie in the sixth inning with an RBI double to right field to give the Old Westbury Panthers a 4-3 lead over Mount St. Vincent’s. The Panthers added five more runs to put the game away and improve to 7-2 on the season.Tyler Kapela recorded the win with five innings, allowing three ER, four hits and three walks while striking out four. He was relieved by Vinny Bieniek, Nick Schoen and Justin Mize who combined for four shutout innings.The offense compiled 14 hits–Eddie Hernandez, Jonathan Pagan, Christian Faust, Michael Cardino and Zeigen all recorded two hits.Faust and Nick Yip both drove in two runs.The teams will play again in the second game of the twin bill. 

Nick Yip Hits Two Home Runs to Lead Panthers in Rout of Lehman

The game was 0-0 with two outs in the bottom of the second inning when the Panthers took advantage of four defensive errors to score 15 runs with two outs. They hit 3 three-run home runs–two by Nick Yip and one by Michael Cardino. The wind certainly contributed to the home runs, but so did the Lehman defense who dropped two outfield fly balls, and misplayed two groundballs in the infield that allowed the Panthers to blow the game wide open. Cardino had three hits and four RBI while Yip had two hits and six RBI. Nick Dorcean was the winning pitcher for the Panthers.
