We have our star pitcher coming back. The only thing that’s up in the air right now is the rest of the pitching and the catching, that’s all,” Mepham head coach Eric Passman said. The mix of certainty and comfort, to go along with uncertainty and unknowns, makes for an interesting start to the year for Passman’s club. While the head coach is getting a...

FINAL: Mepham 3 Wantagh 2 WP: Tyler O’Neill (CG) Gianni Macchio: Walk off pic.twitter.com/KWbKBq1QJ9 — Axcess Baseball LI (@axcessbaseball) May 14, 2019 There is nothing quite like the atmosphere of a win-or-go home playoff game. In any given sport, emotions are always at their peak and anything can happen. Sure enough, this ballgame lived up to the hype. In a game for the ages, Mepham knocked off the three-time defending Long Island Champion Wantagh Warriors on a two strike, walk off 2 RBI double courtesy of Gianni Macchio. Heading into Monday, nobody predicted this outcome. Considering the fact Wantagh was sending their ace, Mason McLane, to the mound, it seemed even more unlikely. Tyler O’Neill got ...
Chris Marshiano talks about his success on the mound today & what it means to start the season off 4-0. pic.twitter.com/xOmHBXl7Er — Axcess Baseball LI (@axcessbaseball) April 16, 2019 In a back-and-forth battle, Herricks defeated Mepham on Tuesday afternoon by a score of 5-2. With the victory, Herricks now improves to 4-0 on the young season, while Mepham falls to 1-3. Herricks wasted no time getting runs on the board, as Matt Yip stole home on a throw back to the pitcher, providing them with an early 1-0 lead in the top of the 1st. However, this lead didn’t last very long. Brendan Keane displayed aggressive base running for Mepham on a throw down to second, as he stole home to tie the game up at 1-1 in the bottom of the 2nd. This wasn’t the only instance of aggressive bas...
Often overlooked, Mepham is seeking recognition this season. They return several top notch players, and have leaders with postseason experience ready to roll. Coming off a season where they lost two closely contested playoff games to powerhouses Wantagh and North Shore, Mepham is entering 2019 with a chip on their shoulder. Not only do they expect to be improved this year, but they’re confident everyone on the team will have a significant role. If everyone plays to their full potential, this team can cause some havoc in Conference A1. On the offensive side of the ball, Mepham expects to do damage. They will be led by Gianni Macchio, who was named All-County in 2018 and finished with a .510 batting average. Junior Matt Hegig will be another powerful bat in middle of the lineup who mad...
