It was senior night which is an annual tradition where the senior players are honored before and after the game. “It’s a great night for our seniors to come together for the last senior night of their career. Let’s have a good time, have some fun,” said Santino Battista, Plainedge’s senior arm. The Mepham Pirates rolled in hopes of capturing another win in the win column but were unsuccessful as Plainedge won 8-4. Battista was on his game...
by Max Edelman No stranger to high school baseball, Mepham Pirates’ head coach Eric Passman is entering his 25th season as varsity coach and 7th with Mepham. They had a great season last year that ended in unbelievably heartbreaking fashion. With two outs in the bottom of the ninth, a grand slam sent the Pirates home. Are you kidding !! Trailing 5-2 and down to their final out, Joey Goodman crushes a walk-off grand slam to send Calhoun into the Nassau Class A Finals against Division! Calhoun 6, Mepham 5 pic.twitter.com/zSdoxrlY4S — Axcess Baseball LI (@axcessbaseball) May 26, 2023 “Last season was unbelievably good, with an unbelievably heartbreaking ending.” Passman said. “We had two outs in the last inning. We were up by three runs, and they hit a grand slam. So you can imagine th...
Trailing 3-1 in the 7th inning, Seaford mounted a comeback with the go-ahead hit coming on an RBI single by TJ Harrington. Seaford won 6-4 to improve to 13-0 on the season to defeat previously undefeated Mepham @GCsports pic.twitter.com/rtXfMQYhde — Axcess Baseball LI (@axcessbaseball) April 29, 2023 This one might’ve been a non-league game but that doesn’t make a difference to the players. Make no mistake, pursuing a perfect season still matters and both Seaford and Mepham entered with unblemished records as the calendar approaches May. We covered Mepham’s win on Tuesday over MacArthur and they were able to finish the sweep. Seaford swept Locust Valley – including a perfect game by senior RHP Billy Kind, so both teams approached Friday’s non-league game which...
Kieran Kehoe and Mepham overcame a early 4-1 deficit and ultimately defeated MacArthur 8-7 to improve to 12-0 on the season. Kehoe went 3-for-4 with 4 RBIs including the game-tying hit in the sixth @GCsports pic.twitter.com/eLhQTz8zK2 — Axcess Baseball LI (@axcessbaseball) April 25, 2023 You couldn’t have asked for a better game of baseball between two league rivals – one of which is pursuing an undefeated season. MacArthur and host Mepham squared off on Tuesday late afternoon, and by the time it was over, it was nearly dark but there was not one person in attendance that was not on the edge of their seat for the last two innings of the game. Even the last out of the game was recorded on a dropped third strike that required a long throw and close play at first base – but ...

The Pirates had a playoff run that was ultimately cut short by Clarke. They finished the regular season with a 10-8 record. Fifth year head coach Eric Passman reflected on the lessons that were learned. “They hit the ball in places that got to us. We just could not make the plays we had to make.” A major part of the team’s success over the past few years have been Tyler O’Neill and Billy Kender. Both O’Neill and Kender are now sophomores at Bucknell University. O’Neill was a dom...
By: Daniel Lopes MacArthur head coach Steve Costello speaks after MacArthur gets a 2-0 victory over Mepham. pic.twitter.com/lhR0PjPFFb — Axcess Baseball LI (@axcessbaseball) April 8, 2022 It was a pitcher’s duel throughout the game between MacArthur and Mepham on Friday, as both starting pitchers went the distance for their respective teams. However, it was Matt Sarni and MacArthur who came out on top, 2-0. Sarni was dominant for MacArthur, pitching a complete game, one-hit shutout, striking out seven batters and only allowing one walk. Despite the great pitching, both teams had chances early on to get their team in the runs column. In the bottom of the first inning, Sebastian Loor hit a two-out double to give MacArthur a runner in scoring position. However, he didn’t score, as Ryan...
By Michael Malaszczyk TYLER O’NEILL WITH A 2-STRIKE GAME-TYING GRAND SLAM IN THE FIFTH pic.twitter.com/zkj9uRMu52 — Axcess Baseball LI (@axcessbaseball) June 14, 2021 It would be difficult to find someone with a deeper knowledge of the game of baseball than Eric Passman. Coach Eric Passman of Mepham has been coaching baseball for fifty years and has no intentions of stopping anytime soon. He has been coaching at Mepham since 2017, and looks forward to Mepham’s 2022 baseball season. Passman was happy to share his thoughts about both last season and this one. “Last season was excellent,” said Passman. “And I can’t say I was happy with how it ended – we were one ground ball away from going to the county finals. And we played a tough game, tough three game series with Calhoun...
What a wild day of baseball it was. Walk-offs, game-tying grand slams, lights-out relief performances and yes, even some fan ejections. Yesterday had it all. Here’s a breakdown of the double header between Mepham and Calhoun. Mepham had taken Game 1 on Saturday and they did not play on Sunday due to prom so it was a 10:30am start yesterday. Mepham had ace Tyler O’Neill on the hill and Calhoun was without their stud SS, Patrick Sanchez, who was ejected on Saturday and had to serve a one-game suspension. It was one of those games where Mepham felt like they were going to run away with it – but just didn’t get the big hit. In the second inning, Mepham opened up a 4-1 lead and had the bases loaded with one out. Calhoun coach Art Canestro made the call to take out starti...
by Joseph Curto Long Beach scores 8 in the bottom of the 7th to defeat Mepham 12-11! John Farina comes through the game winning hit and also earns the W on the mound pic.twitter.com/xQrWBfIsJ0 — Axcess Baseball LI (@axcessbaseball) May 18, 2021 Just a day ago, the Mepham Pirates hosted the Long Beach Marines and took care of them by scoring 15 runs and holding their offense to just three runs. What a difference a day can make. The Long Beach Marines played host to the Mepham Pirates and offered one of the most exciting games of the day. The game featured a pair of junior right handers facing off against one another. Connor Nooney had the ball for Long Beach, and Aidan Amato got the ball for Mepham. The game was scoreless till the top of the third when Pirate’s leadoff man Charlie Le...
Final (9 innings): Mepham 3, MacArthur 1 WP: Billy Kender pic.twitter.com/DGjKSp2pwV — Axcess Baseball LI (@axcessbaseball) May 4, 2021 They’ll be talking about this one for years to come. I knew this would be a great pitching match up between two of Long Island’s best pitchers in Stony Brook-commit JT Raab and Bucknell-commit Tyler O’Neill, but somehow the actual game exceeded even the loftiest of expectations. MacArthur and Mepham are two of the top teams in Nassau County entering 2021 and they proved it today, in an unbelievable pitcher’s duel that resulted in a 3-1 victory in 9 innings for the Pirates with the go-ahead run scoring on a safety squeeze with the bases loaded executed by Jack Hellerer to score Billy Kender – who led off with a two-strike doubl...
Gianni Macchio walks it off with a 2RBI double and Mepham eliminates Wantagh!!!!!! FINAL: Mepham 3 Wantagh 2 WP: Tyler O’Neill (CG) Gianni Macchio: Walk off pic.twitter.com/KWbKBq1QJ9 — Axcess Baseball LI (@axcessbaseball) May 14, 2019 Knocking off the three-time defending Class A Long Island Champions is no small task. Mepham was able to accomplish that back in 2019 in large part to sophomore starting pitcher Tyler O’Neill. Head Coach Eric Passman was optimistic that 2020 would be a great year for his team, as they were set to return their entire infield, 2/3 of their outfield and their entire pitching staff. That plan, of course, was thwarted with the cancellation of the season. “We were going to have a real solid team top-to-bottom,” said Passman, who is entering his f...

FINAL: Mepham 3 Wantagh 2 WP: Tyler O’Neill (CG) Gianni Macchio: Walk off pic.twitter.com/KWbKBq1QJ9 — Axcess Baseball LI (@axcessbaseball) May 14, 2019 There is nothing quite like the atmosphere of a win-or-go home playoff game. In any given sport, emotions are always at their peak and anything can happen. Sure enough, this ballgame lived up to the hype. In a game for the ages, Mepham knocked off the three-time defending Long Island Champion Wantagh Warriors on a two strike, walk off 2 RBI double courtesy of Gianni Macchio. Heading into Monday, nobody predicted this outcome. Considering the fact Wantagh was sending their ace, Mason McLane, to the mound, it seemed even more unlikely. Tyler O’Neill got the st...
