Despite Losing Strong Group of Seniors Syosset Ready to Continue Success

by Andy Smith  Syosset entered 2022 with high expectations.  The Braves qualified for the playoffs and finished with the season with an 8-7 league record. After losing in the quarterfinals to Farmingdale, fifth year head coach Tom Morritt learned some valuable lessons.  “We learned that it’s so important to be playing your best when your best is needed. We encountered a recent league opponent in the quarter finals (Farmingdale) and lost in the best of 3 games after winning game 1.” Morritt continued, “We had just played our regular season finale with the ‘Dalers the week before and ran into them in the first round of playoffs. Over the next several weeks we will be highlighting the top performing travel teams from 2021. First up is Team Francisco 16u Select, coached by Joe Fusco. Below are some of their team accomplishments. • 45-11 On the season • Ranked 60th in country by Perfect Game • Head Coach Joe Fusco • Won PG Super 25 Super Qualifier beating 3 nationally ranked teams at the time (SJ Young Guns #41 at time, Virginia Stars and Bronx Bombers) • Went to PG in Florida. Lost championship game of Freedom Classic PG Florida to Royals Scout team 3-2 • Played in BCS NATL CHAMPIONSHIP in Florida. Went 6-0. Was number 2 seed out of over 100 teams.
