Special thanks to Metamorphosis Landscape Design for sponsoring this year’s series by Max Edelman In his rookie season as head coach of the Pierson Whalers, Bob Manning led his team all the way to the regional final, before falling to the eventual champions Burke Catholic. “We kind of knew what we had going into the season.” Manning said. “We were a C school. We had a solid team, we took care of business during the regular season, but it was a short regular season. So we made it to the regional game in June, but from the beginning of May to June, We didn’t play any meaningful baseball. We played anyone that would play us, but we couldn’t replicate those real situations.” With a solid team, Manning’s Whalers are moving up to a B level school, and with plenty of talent, Pierson i...
Special thanks to Metamorphosis Landscape Design for sponsoring this year’s series by Max Edelman Building a program in the Catholic League is anything but easy, and for St. Mary’s Gaels head coach Chris Estrada, his program took a big step forward in 2024. And entering his fourth season as head coach, Estrada looks to take yet another leap in 2025. “Last year was definitely an improvement from the past two years.” Estrada said. “We won more games than we ever had, we won a conference game, we had a couple close in conference games, we’re climbing the ladder to be a successful team like the other schools in our conference.” A testament to the quick success of the St. Mary’s baseball program, all six seniors who graduated from St. Mary’s last year continued their baseball careers. ...
Special thanks to Metamorphosis Landscape Design for sponsoring this year’s series by Max Edelman With his 13th season as head coach of the North Babylon Bulldogs fast approaching, Steve Corrado looks to build upon an 11-11 season in 2024. Despite the tough ending to the season, Corrado believes that there were plenty of positives to take away from his up and coming Bulldogs squad. “We went into last season with a lot of questions with our pitching.” Corrado said. “We had graduated literally all of our pitching from the year before. But our younger guys stepped up, in our two playoff games we started two sophomore pitchers. 75% of the innings we pitched last season were by kids in either 10th or 11th grade.” While the majority of North Babylon’s key players will be returning in 202...

Special thanks to Metamorphosis Landscape Design for sponsoring this year’s series by Max Edelman In his first year as head coach of the North Shore Vikings, Rob Gates accomplished his goal of getting his team back to the playoffs. Although the team suffered a first round defeat to Wantagh, Gates was happy with the effort his team showed, and is looking forward to hitting the ground running in 2025. “The goal last year was to get back into the playoffs after two years without.” Gates said. “So that part of the mission was definitely a success. I got hired a little late last winter, so this winter I’ve been able to get everything up and running. So that’s been a nice adjustment here in year two.” The major loss for the Vikings in 2025 is of star pitcher Garret Gates, who was both a fi...
by Max Edelman Hofstra: The Hofstra Pride suffered a difficult defeat at the hands of the UNC Wilmington Seahawks 13-3 on the road on Friday. The Pride see their playoff hopes take a big hit, after struggling mightily against the Seahawks. Santino Rosso, Will Kennedy and Luke Masiuk each had one RBI for the Pride. After his best start of the year a week ago, Michael O’Hanlon failed to build off of that momentum. In only 22 innings, O’Hanlon allowed seven earned runs on seven hits and only struck out one. O’Hanlon was charged with his fourth loss of the season. For the Seahawks, Kevin Jones led the way with 3 RBIs, and Jacob Shafer was the winning pitcher. The Pride are 20-29 with a 10-12 CAA record and will play the Seahawks again on Saturday. Stony Brook: The Stony Brook Seawolves narro...

Entering the game with an 11-1 league record, this may have looked like another win for legendary head coach Tom Abruscato’s team. However, starting pitcher Garret Gates and the Vikings had other ideas. After six innings of a game that took nearly three hours to complete, the umpires were forced to call the game due to impending darkness. The length of the game was due in large part to the numerous walks in the game, as ...
