Special thanks to Metamorphosis Landscape Design for sponsoring this year’s series by Max Edelman Coming off a season with a very young team, head coach Rob Fisher, who is entering his 21st year in charge of the Bethpage Golden Eagles, is excited to follow up a growing season in 2024 with a year that will hopefully feature more on field success. “Last year we struggled, but we were very young.” Fisher said. “We started three freshmen and three sophomores and a bunch of other lower classmen got playing time. We struggled a little bit. We weren’t consistent on the mound. While we did have some good showings, we just didn’t have the consistency to be able to compete day in and day out.” Although much of the Golden Eagles core players last season weren’t seniors, there were a number of k...
Special thanks to Metamorphosis Landscape Design for sponsoring this year’s series by Max Edelman In a win-and-in game that either sent the Eastport-South Manor (ESM) Sharks to the playoffs or ended their season, the Sharks unfortunately were defeated, and saw their season end. Head coach Jim McGowan, who is entering his 11th season as head coach of the Sharks in 2025, looked back on the disappointing end of the season for his team. “It was extremely disappointing.” McGowan said. “We had to win the last game to get in, but we lost 5-4 and missed the playoffs on the last day. It was an extremely disappointing finish for us.” Although ESM graduated a large number of seniors following last season, not all were starters. However, there were a number of key players, including three that a...
Special thanks to Metamorphosis Landscape Design for sponsoring this year’s series by Max Edelman In his sixth season with Garden City, head coach Dave Izzo guided his team into one of the most challenging conferences that Long Island has to offer. Izzo was able to take his team to a regular season conference championship before falling to Division in the playoffs. “We played in arguably the toughest conference on Long Island in my opinion.” Izzo said. “With Division, Calhoun and Carey. We won the conference regular season, which was great. We went into the last three game series of the season against Division and whoever won the series was conference champs and we beat them two out of three. But we saw them in the quarterfinals of the playoffs and they smoked us.” Garden City junior...
Special thanks to Metamorphosis Landscape Design for sponsoring this year’s series by Max Edelman In his third season as head coach of the Bay Shore Marauders, head coach Chris Schiro’s team struggled to a 5-15 record. While the record might not be the best, injuries played a large part in the team’s struggles. With the injuries came opportunities for younger players, who Schiro is hopeful can play larger roles in his fourth season in charge. “The last couple seasons we’ve definitely been a little bit down.” Schiro said. “We had a younger team last year which will lead to good leadership this year. We had the unfortunate injury bug last year where we had a lot of seniors go down before the season even started and during the year which led the way for a group of sophomores to co...

However, with plenty of talent returning, the Mustangs are primed to make it back to the playoffs in 2025. “We went 9-11 and missed the playoffs by one game.” Pembroke said. “We started off 1-10 in a very tough league with an inexperienced te...
Special thanks to Metamorphosis Landscape Design for sponsoring this year’s series by Max Edelman In 32 years as the head coach of the MacArthur Generals, Steve Costello has compiled 570 wins in a tenure that has spanned four decades. And while last year’s team wasn’t able to accomplish the ultimate goal of a championship, only four seniors graduated from Costello’s program, leaving plenty of returning players in 2025. “We only had four returning seniors on the entire roster last year, which is very unusual.” Costello said. “All of those seniors did a great job. We were really unsure with how last year was going to go. We ended up winning the league before getting eliminated in the County Quarterfinals to Carey in a three-game series. We lost one game in the regular season.” Wh...
Special thanks to Metamorphosis Landscape Design for sponsoring this year’s series by Max Edelman Following a season in which the Newfield Wolverines didn’t make the playoffs, the Wolverines will be welcoming in a new head coach in the form of Danny Walsh. Walsh, who previously served as an assistant coach for Newfield, looked back on a bittersweet playoff-less season for his team. “We didn’t make the playoffs which is ultimately the goal going in.” Walsh said. “They stuck together and worked hard. Overall, I think it was a good year.” While the Wolverines did have a strong senior class last season, they will be without that core group. Of the seniors who played for Newfield last season, two of them are playing in college now. Matt Hesselbirg is playing at Mercy University and J.C. G...
Special thanks to Metamorphosis Landscape Design for sponsoring this year’s series by Max Edelman In his 18th season in charge of the Hills East Thunderbirds, head coach Tim Belz’s team got off to a scorching start to the year. However, they were unable to continue their 7-2 success, as they ended up finishing 9-9. However, with many of his players returning this season, Belz believes that his team will only continue to improve. “We started off the season 7-2 and finished 2-7.” Belz said. “Things didn’t go right for us towards the end of the season. We lost the last four. But we were a very young team last year.” While most of the team from 2024 is returning, there were four graduating seniors on the team last year. Of those four, three are currently playing college baseball. Three t...

Although the season didn’t end in a championship, Syosset was able to reach the third round before ultimately losing to Port Washington. “We had a young team with only a few graduating seniors last year.” Morritt said. “We only had a few seniors on the team. The season started out with some atypical performances, but we found a rhy...

In the playoffs, I had to...
Special thanks to Metamorphosis Landscape Design for sponsoring this year’s series by Max Edelman In a season that started red hot, the South Side Cyclones were unable to complete their goal of winning a championship. However, head coach Tom Smith, who is entering his 12th year in charge in 2025, believes that some of that blame falls on him. “Last season was up and down.” Smith said. “We came out of the gate in league play pretty hot but then we hit a road bump. I blame myself on that one, I needed to have a procedure done and I felt disconnected. We lost some really tight games down the stretch, finished second in the conference. We managed to get ourselves in as the number four seed. But we didn’t execute in some key moments and ultimately fell short of our goal.” While last seaso...
