East Coast Lumberjacks Defeat Beast Apicella 9-1 to kick off Northeast Elite 16u Tournament

by Matthew Cataruzolo Yaphank, NY – The East Coast Lumberjacks defeated Beast Apicella by a score of 9-1 on Friday night to kick off the Northeast Elite 16u Tournament at Lasorda Legacy Park in Yaphank, New York.  Apicella’s starting pitcher Matthew Brienza faced off against Lumberjack’s pitcher Matthew DeStefanis in what would eventually become a lopsided victory. Both pitchers held their competition in check for the first two innings. Apicella getting on the board first courtesy of an RBI single off the bat of Thomas Ford.  C.J. Batting 1.000 defeats LI Storm 11-1 on first day of East Coast Columbus Day Tournament

by Matthew Cataruzolo Westbury, NY — Batting 1000 made a strong first impression with a victory over the LI Storm at Eisenhower Park on Friday night. A rout of offensive firepower combined with a strong pitching performance gave Batting 1000 the advantage and eventually emerge victorious.  Back-to-back one-two-three innings for both teams indicated the possibility of a low scoring game. Batting 1000 starting pitcher Chrish Patel remained virtually unhittable throughout the game, and his offense provided him with plenty of run support. The bottom of the second inning saw a barrage of offensive firepower from Batting 1000. LI Red Dogs defeat LI Thunder 6-1 on first day of East Coast Columbus Day Tournament

by Matthew Cataruzolo Westbury, NY – The LI Red Dogs faced off against the LI Thunder at Eisenhower Park on the first day of the East Coast Columbus Day Tournament.  A pitcher’s duel between Red Dogs pitcher Brandon Scott and Thunder’s Connor Sanders saw just a 1-0 Red Dogs lead for the first four innings. An RBI single by Red Dogs’ Matt Infranco was the game’s only run until the bottom of the fourth inning.   The Red Dogs got a much-needed cushion on their lead when Tyler Giordano crushed a two-run home run over the left field wall off Thunder reliever Matt Biscardi. Usher Valdez took the mound for the Monarchs and immediately showed off his impressive arsenal that held the Arsenal to just two runs.  Valdez cruised through the first inning, striking out the side. Sharks vs. Freedom Ends in 3-3 draw in Extra Innings

by Matthew Cataruzolo Massapequa, NY — The Sharks squared off against Freedom Baseball at Plainedge Park in an 11u matinee showdown.  What began as a pitcher’s duel, developed into a nail biter that saw neither team emerge victorious.  Andrew Campon took the mound for the Sharks against the visiting Freedom. Campon avoided trouble after surrendering two singles to Nico Hendrickson and Jack McAllister.  Hendrickson was on the bump for the Freedom and dealt a quick one-two-three inning.   Joe Lentini opened the scoring in the top of the second inning with an inside-the-park home run to put the Freedom up 1-0. by Matthew Cataruzolo Farmingdale, NY – On the first day of the East Coast Labor Day Bash Tournament, Powered by Axcess Baseball, the Farmingdale Greendogs defeated the Dodgers Nation by a score of 18-2.  The Greendogs were in control of the game immediately, and wasted no time putting runs on the board. Getting after starting pitcher Gavin Ziegler began in the top of the first with a leadoff single by Greendogs’ center fielder Braden Cloghessy, followed by back-to-back RBI singles by Dominic Kloepping and Gabe Cepada. Catcher Patrick Molite plated two more with a ground rule double, giving Farmingdale an early 5-0 lead.  Farmingdale’s offensive attack exploded in the top of the second inning.
